Our losses were in the thousands due to unpaid money and improvements we did on their behalf
Do not do business with this Utah company - Do not do business with this company. Eldridge Homes, Eldridge Houses, Eldridge Construction, etc. is run by Steve Eldridge and Lindon Parks. These are two dishonest men who will not do what they promise.Steve Eldridge and Lindon Parks currently run a rent to own company where they buy 'fixer-uppers' and then put renters in them. The renters get the option to buy them after a certain amount of time.We entered into a contract with them about 2 years ago. At the time we asked what would happen if we had to move due to work and weren't able to buy the house. They mentioned that it was no problem and that it happens from time to time. They even told us a story about a man who had to move to Texas and they took care of him by giving him a bunch of equity when he left the home.We moved into our home and we liked it but it was definitely a fixer upper. There was lots of damage. We were there for a year and put thousands of our own dollars into new carpet, paint, landscaping, electrical work and more. We weren't planning on this but the time came a year into living there that we had to move for work. Even though we had put thousands of our own money into their house they didn't offer to refund any money at all. After some negotiating we were able to get a promise for $500 which obviously wasn't much but was better than nothing.Months and months passed and we would call from time to time to see about the money. They kept promising it but never delivered. Finally it got to the point where we were upset at their unfulfilled promises and they just said "We'll send you a little money when we can." There was no apology or even a mention of a payment plan. I feel certain that they would never allow their own renters to pay them rent "as they can", yet they expected us to do so without any argument.Time still went on and they refused to pay so we filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. Their rebuttal to our complaint was full of lies. They claimed that we were the ones who had created all the damage in the house in the first place. When we left the house there was a lot of work to be done still, but it was far better than when we had moved in. The lack of honesty in payment is one thing. We were so dissapointed. We felt comfortable originally using this company because it was run by two, unassuming elderly gentleman who we believed to be honest. The fact that they would outright lie to the BBB is another thing. I hate to call someone out and say they are a liar but it is true of these two men, Steve Eldridge and Lindon Parks. It is now almost a year after moving out and we are still wating on our money. I now doubt we will ever get it. These men have lied so many times that further promises to pay now fall on deaf ears. Working with them has been one of the worst experiences of my life and I strongly caution anyone who is going to enter into a deal with them to do things we were too naive to do. Make sure you get pictures of all the damage the house has and have them sign the pictures or they will lie about it. Make sure you have in writing any escape clause or they will take advantage of you. Our losses were in the thousands due to unpaid money and improvements we did on their behalf but I could easily see how another unsuspecting person could lose much more. Be very careful.
