Electro Battery Inc. Reviews

November 18, 2008
Terrible experience
I purchased a car battery for $59.50 with a 60 month prorated warranty (cost= $.99 a month for 60 months). The battery only lasted 25 months before it became defective. When I went back to return the battery to receive my prorated refund for 35 months or $34.65 credit (35months x $.99= $34.65 credit) I was told that I would receive a prorate credit based upon the current 'list price' of the battery and not the actual price I paid for it. Their current 'list price' on the battery was $90.00 for a 60 month prorated warranty (cost= $1.50 a month for 60 months) and since I got 25 months worth of use out of 60 months they would give me a credit for 35 months at a $1.50 a month which equals $52.50, but the $52.50 wouldn't be subtracted from the original price ($59.50) I paid, instead the $52.50 would be subtracted from the 'list price' of $90.00- leaving me having to pay $37.50 to get a new battery ($37.50-$59.50 for a new battery= a $22.00 credit). THIS IS THE HEART OF THE ELECTRO BATTERY SCAM!!! The industry standard (Sears or Autozone) on prorate warranties is to prorate your credit based upon the original price you paid, not on a inflated 'list price' that works in the favor of the company and not the customer. If Electro followed industry standards, then I should have been prorated for 35 months based upon the original price of $59.50 which equals a credit of $34.65 ($.99 x 35months= $34.65), a credit of $34.65 should have been applied to the original price $59.50 that I paid, leaving me having to pay $24.85 for a new battery-not $37.50.

I know some of you might be thinking, 'so what, you had to pay an extra $13.00 for a new battery under their policy.' This is exactly what Electro wants you to think, but please look at it from my perspective: the battery ONLY LASTED 25 months out of 60 or half the life of the warranty. What's to say that the next battery I get will last any longer (25months) than the last battery I bought from them? If the next battery I get lasts only 25 months I'll be back in the same position as I was originally in, and I would have to pay another $37.50 for a battery that lasts only 25 months when it should last 60 months!

My point is that Electro is lying to their customers when they say their batteries last 60 months, they know very well that they are selling you a 25 month battery at the cost of a 60 month battery, and then they go one step further and create a scam policy that ensures they will be protected from a loss when you come seeking your refund. The only true guarantee you get from this rip-off company is that you will be suckered into coming back every 25 months to pay more money for a battery that doesn't last the stated time.

I'm taking a stand against this unethical company and instead of returning my battery to them and falling into the trap of getting another one, I will suffer a short term loss ($22 credit) and take my business elsewhere. Sears and Autozone are offering a 72 month warranty for $69.99 and they will both give me a prorate credit based upon the original price I paid ($69.99) and not some overinflated 'list price' that screws you every time.

They say they have been in business for 42 years and here's why-because the internet hasn't been around for 42 years to document their scam. Well guess what Electro, the internet is here stay, and if you continue to scam your customers more people like myself will rise up and post their stories on complaintsboard!!!

If you would like to contact me for more info or a scanned copy of my receipt with their evasive policies, please do not hesitate.
