Perming Caused Hair Loss
This September 2008 I made an appointment for a perm at Elleonie Salon. Went and got the perm. ********, the Stylist (if you can call her that) did the perm on my hair. Two weeks later the perm was coming out, going straight on the ends.
I made an appointment to have the perm taken out at another salon because I was dissatisfied with the way it looked. It was more maintenance to curl my ends with a curling iron to make it all look the same than to just have it straight again.
Showed up for my appointment and the new stylist informs me there is no way she is putting more chemicals on my hair she was afraid. She did a strand test and my hair was breaking in half when she ran across it and pulled it with her fingers.
The new stylist suggested I ask the manager for a refund and conditioning treatments to repair some of the damage. The new stylist conditioned my hair and trimmed the fried ends.
I called Elleonie Salon and asked to speak with Elleonie (the manager by the way). I explained to her the extent of damage to my hair and she said there was no way she was giving my money back, that my hair was fine, she had done the perm herself and knew she did a good job.
I asked for the corporate office phone number at that point since they are a chain and she said she was not giving me the number and hung up. I called the Amber Place, explained what had just happened and they gave me the number.
A couple of weeks later I went back to the Salon for a conditioning & trim. This time I had a bald spot. I called the Salon back and told them my hair was falling out. I cried and cried, I was traumatized, how much more of my hair would fall out?
The building management returned my call and gave me the number to the Elleonie Salon. The adjuster called me and asked me to turn in any receipts for hair cuts, conditioning treatments, etc.
I went to a dermatologist and he said the bald spot was in every way related to the perm, that I had a condition called allopecia. He could not give me any reason why I would have it or how it started but that it would have to be the the perm. He prescribed me some cortisone cream and shampoo for the dryness on my scalp.
I decided I should get a second opinion and the second doctor gave me the same story. This dermatologist gave me cortisone shots which by the way were painful, and more shampoo, and pills. My hair kept falling out and I got new bald spots so I went back again. He gave me more shots and put me on a steroid called prednisone (and for anyone who has ever been on it you know it is not a drug you want to be on) The side effects are herrendous.
Elleonie Salon denied my claim, and my hair is still falling out. It is growing back in some spots and falling out in others. I have dermatology bills that I really can not afford considering I have no medical insurance. I am convinced the hair loss is connected with the perm. I have never had a hair loss problem. I have very thick hair, no where near thin or thinning up until after the perm.
How can they say it was not the chemicals put on my head? Why does my scalp itch and flake ever since? I am outraged that the dermatology bills were not paid, not to mention the expensive medications I purchase every time I go to the doctor. I feel like I am being ripped-off majorly.
I would really like to know why the Elleonie Salon is still on business. I live in a small town and have been harrassed by the woman who ruined my hair. I was never told she fired her two employees for that because of what had happened to me but she is very angry with me for some reason. She has flicked her cigarette ashes on me from a balcony in a public place since the two employees left her and made numerous comments about causing me harm.
I want my hair to stop falling out, and Elleonie Salon harrassing other people.
