Emery Cat Reviews

Over Charges
I also got snagged on this one. Ordered two expecting the second to be for just the shipping of $7.95 only as stated on the web page. After inserting a qty of 2 and selecting Place Order I was taken to pages where I could order a the hard plastic base as shown in the advertisement (which I expected in the first place) for an extra $10 and scratching refills for another $12-$14. After saying NO Thanks to those two screens I was taken to a screen saying my order was placed. Never given the chance to review my order before placing it. Expecting to see an order amount of $19.95 + 7.95 + 7.95 = $35.85 I was shocked to see the order total of $71.70 !!

They charged me $39.90 (2 x $19.95) for the two Emery Cats + 31.80 for shipping (4 x $7.95). Their over charges are factors of shipping or product prices so they can claim it was programming or regular human mistakes. I think we all know better than that. They are a very shady business. If this was really a worth while product they would not need to do business like this to make money.

I immediately called my credit card company, verified the charge had not gone through yet, had my card canceled and a new one issued. They are not getting my money!

Deceptive Advertising
Company advertises 2 cat scratching boards for the price of one plus $7.95 S&H. This is not only untrue but a customer does not get to view what they are ordering...instead the order is submitted without hitting an order confirmation. The 2nd scratching board is not free...it is $14.95. And you are charged 4 s&H charges of $7.95 each, so the order comes to $66.70 instead of $27.90. You cannot call to cancel: no one is present to accept the call. Unless you want to throw away your money, this scratching board is a major rip off. Read all the other complaints online before placing an order.

Not really a BOGO! DON'T DO IT!!!!
The website SAYS that each emery cat is $19.95. After I had submitted my order I am shown that EACH emery cat is $29.95. One of those was supposed to be BOGO! Not only that but the website says that S&H is $7.95, it's not. I paid $31.80 for shipping for the two emerycat POS's.

Once you recieve the confirmation email it offers a "free shipping" link. I wll not be entering my credit card informtion again just for these low lifes to steel more money from me!

P & O overcharage, false advertising
First of all, The buy one get one free is false. I was charged full price for both. There was no total order amount visible until I had approved the order. Then it went through without a chance to review the order. Suddenly a message popped up which said "order confirmed." Then one notices down at the bottom an outrageous shipping charge. Still no total order amount shown, untill one receives the confirmation e mail later in the day. EEEK!! What a shocker. $86.60 for 2 + 1 xtra pads.
Also one wonders why a sturdier heavy duty one is advertised for an extra $10.00. What is wrong with the original one? Why are new emery pads offered at the beginning, in packs of three? How long do the pads last? Apparently not very long.
It sure sounded like the answer for indoor cats. Something smells badly about the advertising and marketing of this product. I could not get ahold of customer service. I was on hold for over one half hour three times, then finally got a computer voice which directed my call to a customer service rep, but I got cut off before I could talk to anyone! I cancelled through the credit card company as there is no way to cancel or contact customer service on their web site.

Deliberately Deceptive Advertising
Both the television and Internet ads advertise a board for $19.95 plus shipping and handling--$7.95, and you get another one free, paying just the $7.95 shipping and handling. Total of 35.85 plus tax of course. The bill comes and it charges 19.95 for the first board, 14.95 for the "free" board, and 15.90 P&H for EACH; total of 66.70 (in this state). By the time your order becomes "accessable" to the (well trained)customer service reps, it is too late for adjustments though they previously told you to call back and they will adjust. They will tell you that they will refund one of the P&H charges (still to be seen) and send you a label to return the two unwanted boards (Yes folks, you wound up with FOUR) at which time they supposedly will refund the price of those. After all the extra effort required on your part, it still remains unknown if these statements will be honored as it takes 2-3 weeks just to get the first order in. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Overcharging & Deceptive Advertising
Advertised as buy one get one. I ordered one having been warned about possible deceptive ads and billing and sure enough...just one cost me a total of $38.81. That being $19.95 for the emery board scratcher and $15.90 for shipping. Then there is the tax. This is just for one mind you. You can return it but they keep the $15.90. What a racket. Don't be taken in. I don't care how good or bad the product, I feel totally ripped off. M. Kennedy

Deceptive Advertising / Overcharges
www.EmeryCat.com advertised 1 item at $19.95 + $7.95 s/h, and a second item "FREE" + $7.95 s/h. My CC was charged $66.70 for "First Item + Second Item 'at Reduced Price' (instead of 'FREE') + $31.80 s/h (instead of $15.90)". Calls to their "Customer Service" at (866) 438-8842 did NOT work. I was on hold for almost an HOUR, and was then told that my order was "not in the system" for 2 days. On the 3rd day, AT EIGHT-O-FIVE A.M. (5 minutes after they start accepting calls), my order WAS "in the system", but they wanted to charge my CC $35 TO CANCEL MY ORDER, because it had "already left the warehouse, and can't be cancelled".
My bank says the CC charges are "valid", because I DID admit to ording the items, and it may take up to 180 days to get a full refund... ...IF the bank is able to determine that the company deceived me with their advertising.
There is NO PHYSICAL ADDRESS listed for the company (only a P.O. box # in Connecticut), and the phone number for their "customer service" department is owned by a "Edison Nation, LLC" in New York City, NY... ...and "Edison Nation" claims they "only handle orders", and would NOT give me the phone number or physical address of the company that sent me the items and charged my CC.
If anyone DOES ever find a physical address on them, please e-mail me at [email protected] with it, because I plan on pursuing federal charges against them for "deceptive advertising" (ad vs. actual items), "mail fraud" (it came via US Mail), and "wire fraud" (my CC was used to buy them).

Dishonest ads with no access
Again, unclear ordering form. I wanted two, the second one free with only the $7.95 shipping fee. The form asked "1" or "2"? I put down "2" and the order went through for "4" with $31.80 in shipping fees.
I have tried every means to get back to them to cancel the order--impossible! It is "not in the system yet, therefore it can't be canceled."
Absolute rip-off!
Am contacting the Better Business Bureau plus "Rip-Off" online site.

Shady Marketing
This company does not give you the whole truth in purchasing their products. They advertise a board for $19.95 plus shipping and handling--$7.95, and you get another one free, paying just the shipping and handling. So why does this order turn out to total: $71.00????? The s&h charge turned out to be almost $32.oo. There was NO opportunity to review the total before confirming the order. My suggestion is not to order from this company.

Overcharges
Advertisement uses misdirection and "BOGO" to imply buy one get one which is actually 25% off and appears to be 2 P&H charges.
If you order one unit at $19.95 and $7.95 P&H and accept the BOGO (expecting another P&H of $7.95) for a total of $35.85. But the total is $66.70. The original $19.95 and BOGO unit, not free but 25% off, at $14.95 and 4 P&H charges.

None of these add progressively and wait for acceptance they "are being processed" before you see your total.

You will also have a chance for an upgrade to a sturdy unit that won't slide around for another $10.

Sounds like a good product with shady marketing.
