Emily's Furniture Reviews

Gord September 27, 2009
Awful, awful, awful
The week of December 23rd, 2007 the arm joint on a bench I purchased from Emily's furnature at 5905 W.Bell Rd Glendale, AZ came loose causing it to break where it was screwed into the back. Upon checking closer we discovered the other arm was also loose at the joint. January 4th, 2008 I went into the store with my paper work and spoke to Mike S (he said he was a manager). The bench was under warrranty and Mike said I would be called to arrange pick up and the bench would be fixed or replaced. I called once a week for 8 weeks to see about setting a time to have it picked up. Each time I was assured someone would call me back. One of those weeks I spoke with Mike S and he apologized and said there was a mix up and a work order would be sent again to the department that sets pick up times. On Saturday, Feb. 22nd the woman I spoke to on the phone assured me she was faxing over the order form to their warehouse as we spoke and I would get a pick up call. I expressed concern because the warranty expired on Feb.26th. She assured me that would not be a problem since they had a record of when I first came in. No one called. On Feb. 29th I called again and was told someone would call me right back to set up a time. 3 1/2 hours later I got a call from someone from the store saying they were not going to fix it and to call my stain warranty company. I was so shocked and tried to explain to him that warranty only covered the stain and not breakage. He was very rude to me and said the "Boss, Kurt" had said he would not fix it. I called the stain warranty company and they confirmed what I had thought. They cover damage to the wood when the stained finish is involved. I went to the store on Sunday, March 2nd and spoke face to face with Mike S. He pulled my paperwork and informed me Kurt had said he would not replace it because it had been repaced before and was "abused". I informed him this was not true. It had never been replaced and was like new being that we have no children living at home and my husband and I seldom use it. He went to a back room to talk to Kurt and came back and said it was not being replaced because it was no longer under warranty and it was abused. I was told I could bring it in and someone there would glue it back together. They lied to me each week about picking it up and also that it would not matter if the warranty ran out. They also lied about it being picked up and replaced in the past. As far as it being abused no one has even looked at it to determine that. I did find out on March 2nd, when I went into the store that they are having a store wide clearence because Kurt is retiring after 45 years and his son is taking over the business. I figure he never planned to replace or fix the bench correctly and was stringing me along till he was ready to pass the store on to his son. I do not want to just drop off the bench (I would need to get a truck to get it there) and have just any one glue it together. I do not feel they are trust worthy to fix it correctly. If it is possible I would like help getting the bench replaced.
