Empty Promises/ Horrible customer service
I just want to warn consumer not to jump into buying carpet from Empire. Diane F. Hunter was the biggest swindler we've ever come across. She pressured us into making a decision to get the discount that Empire advertise. They advertise buy 1 room and get 2 rooms free but it's carpet that you don't want and limited to 2 types only. Bait and Switch. We gave it a benefit of the doubt and said okay...maybe the quality of work will be great. WELL...we were promised same day install and the installer told us that Diane entered the other as a 2 day install...all in all, the experience with Empire was HORRIBLE. What a regret and a lesson learned.

No call back
My father (who is elderly) called empire today to carpet the whole house.Three bedrooms, Living room & den, stairs(13).I set up an apt for the sales rep to come & show samples.I had gotten other quotes from reputible carpet stores. When the rep came he was very professional (I thought)he bought many sampels & all was going well, until he started to write up the estimate & he forgot the small walkway going to the kitchen, and then proceeded to write another estimate for that small piece of carpet.3x4 feet. The estimate was$ 94.95.I couldn't believe he was charging me for his mistake, but after being there for almost 3 hours I agreed to pay for it.The rep quoted me a price of 3, 700.00.I said no it was way too much, he called his "Supervisor" & dickered the price down to 3, 500.I said no to that.Itold him that I picked the cheapest carpet how could it be that much, he then called his supervisor again& dickered it down to 3, 200.00.I agreed only because we were selling the house & needed it to be done the next day.I do believe this was a scam, you usually don't call your boss to check & see if you can take a lesser amt of money, if that is the true measurments & price.I feel cheated for my dad by this company & will never recomend them to anyone.I must say the installers were VERY nice & took there time with the installation.PS.We paid cash!!!Don't ever do that.!!!Hase makes WASTE>>>>>I have tried to call them & I get a message machine. This was done in March.09.I will keep trying if not I guess it's court time...!!!

ScamRude Salesman
WOW! This company is not what I thought! I would NEVER recommend them. We had Empire come out.. Next day for a free cons. The man that they had come out was RUDE, PUSHY, and unprofessional. He told the measurements of the rooms to be carpeted. I ASKED how much they cost per sq. ft. And he told me Empire dosen't charge that way. He then ran out to his car and quoted us $1, 900 (for the stuff that sells at Home Depot for 77 cents sq.ft) After my husbands jaw about dropped after the shocking price.. he asked us.. what we'd Like to pay for it. Then went down to $1, 400. Then went on to tell us we'd be foolish not to take the price. And told my husband that he basically didn't know what he was doing.. etc. We chose not to go with them.. Anway.. I just wanted to get it out there... BEWARE with EMPIRE they are over priced CONS.

Sales Rep
My name is Raymond Delien,
I responded to the TV adds about the Empire carpet 60% off sale. We thought it was great timing because we just bought our first house and everything happened in time to take advatnage of the sale.
The sales guy comes in and brings samples and we picked which ones we wanted. He measured the rooms and then gave us a quote for 1400.00, for two rooms, 14x14 and 11x15.
I advised that the amount seemed like allot for two rooms, bur sister had a local installer (who did a great job) do her entire house with the best carpet pad that money can buy for 3000.00 and two of the rooms were carpeted with premium carpet, and if this was 60% off then the cost for these two rooms without the sale would be $2, 900.00 which is preposterous. I advised that it did not feel like 60% off. He said that we weren't taking advantage of that sale because if we did he would have to itemize everything, but since we are just taking a price from him then he didn’t have to itemize the tack strips etc, and did not have to charge us for anything extra. The guy was scribbling all over this sheet of paper that was supposidly my "quote" and I did not understand any off the costs. Also he told us that the installers are not on sale and I still had to pay full price for them. The commercial leaves that part out. I had planned on having someone else come out and give me another quote anyway so I accepted his offer. He advised that the 50.00 deposit that I gave was fully refundable.
After speaking with some other people who have recently had carpet installed, I decided not to do the instalation. I called back to cancel the order, and was told that I needed to have my order number to cancel it. I did not have that with me and therefore I could not cancel. I adivsed that I would call later to cancel. Even though the customer service rep that I spoke with did not ask why I was canceling, I volunteered the information. I advised that the sales guy was all over the place with the numbers, and the cost did not make sense to me, that his measurements seemed high, and I did not feel comfortable with the fast paced measure/quote process. The customer service rep simply said "well call back when you have an order number and you can cancel". No apologies were offered, and no attempt was made to retain my business.
We had the same local installer who did our sisters carpet come out and give us a quote, the quote was for 800.00. We picked the same carpet and a premium pad. The only downside is that we have to wait a week for the installation. But because we will already be moved into the property by then he said he will move all of our furniture for free to make up for it.

Lousy carpet
RUN!!! Do not do business with this company. Their carpet is the worst I've ever encountered. They will tell you to "steam clean" it immediately as it will get dirty quicker than any other carpet. They say that the "manufacturer" recommends steam cleaning right away. I raised 3 kids on Beige carpeting, and it never looked as bad as what the crap does that Empire installed in my house just 3 months ago, and it's just me and my husband and we both travel a lot!!! I think they have a big scam going, and unfortunately the consumer has to pay the price. Their customer service is as poor, as their carpet! It will start unraveling immediately, will mat down, and you will fill up one sweeper bag after another with their carpet. I've had new carpet often thoughout the years, and have never encountered the problems I've had with Empire. Go anywhere but there, or you will regret it!!! We have to replace 3 rooms of carpeting because what they scammed us on looks horrible. My home is 18 years old, and the office has the original carpet in it, and looks better than the new carpet from Empire.

Customer service
had an in home visit from one of their sales people and it was great. She was helpful and the price was really good. I scheduled the instalation and was very excited about getting fresh new carpet for my house. The installers came on time. The crew manager was great, he answered all of my questions and was generally very friendly.
He had 2 Hispanic guys working with him. They spoke no English. They finsihed in 3.5 hours and I was so excited. The carpet looked great. I was throughly satisfied. I really thought I would get to go out onto the internet and write a good review of the company. That is, until I started unpacking my stuff that I boxed up to get out of the way.
I unpacked a box and thought that there was some CD's and a DVD missing, but I wasn't sure. That prompted me to check my jewelry box that was in a box under stuff in the bathroom. When I did I was shocked to find 6 rings missing from my jewelry box. One of which was my grandmother's wedding rings (she passed away last Feb and that's all I have left of her). Those rings were on a gold chain. The chain was snapped and the rings gone. I was so upset, I was literally devastated. I immediately called the crew manager that was at my house and told him that I had belongings missing. He was able to stop his crew. One of the men was working with him for the very first day ever. This guy handed over 2 of my rings, but nothing else.
By that time I had contacted the local police and they were at my house. Long story short, what ended up happening was the crew manager and his wife came all the way back here from the warehouse in rush hour traffic to give a statement with me to the police. It was really great of him to do that and he didn't have to do anythig.
If that wasn't bad enough, Empire was notified also and they told me that someone would call me in 24hrs.
They should have made that a priority. The lady called me the next day got information and said she would call back. She took 4 hours to do so. When she called back (after 2 msgs from me)she gave me the B. S. line of "we are going to cooperate with the police". When I asked what the company was going to do for me, she repaeated that line FREAKING PARROT! She wouldn't explain anything.
I spoke with the Instalation Manager here in Atlanta and he basically told me that b/c legal is involved they can't discuss it with me. They aren't doing anything to resolve the fact that I paid $1800 to be robbed!
This could happen to anyone with any company. My point is that EMPIRE has no customer service to speak of. I wish I had gone with someone else even if I had to pay more money. Beware of empire.

Quality and Service
Worst company I have ever dealt with! It has been four years and I am still having problems with them and our product. Everytime you call you get a different person in a different state. No one cares in the company! The guy who finally showed up, had no idea what he was doing, they had very little to choose from. When they came to install both our floors and carpet, the installers spoke no english and it made it very frustrating to get things done. They then installed both carpet and floors wrong and thus begun a year of trying to get them to come back out and fix it. They actually left huge staples sticking out of the floor for my daughter to cut her feet on. I cannot figure out for the life of me how these people are still in business. They over charged us also by about 2000.00!!! To say I hate Empire is an understatement! I am so happy to find this site to pass on this information. If it stops even one person from giving them there business, it is worth it!

NO SHOW FOR ESTIMATE
I contacted Empire Carpet and scheduled an appointment for an estimate on 2-14-09. I was assured at the time that installation could take place on 2-16-09. These dates were set due to the fact that I would need to travel out of state to be at the home where the job would need to take place. The estimate was scheduled for 2-14-09 between
1-3 p.m. At approximately 12:15 p.m. the sales rep called me to confirm my location. At the time he told me that he was about 2-1/2 hrs. away and would need to call me back. At approximately 12:30 p.m. someone else from Empire called me to say that they would not be able to make the appointment and would I like to reschedule. I explained that I had made special arrangements to travel from Pennsylvania to Maryland to be at the home that particular weekend. I was told again that they had nobody in the area to come that day and that they could reschedule "maybe" on
2-16-09. I told her that I did not want to reschedule and that this had caused me an inconvenience. She told me that they would give me a $50 credit toward my purchase. Again, I told her that I did not want to reschedule and they had lost my business.
I called Empire on 2-16-09 and requested to speak to someone in charge so I could make a formal complaint. However, I was told to give them my phone number and someone would get back to me in
1-3 days.
Based on this experience, I would never use this company or recommend them to anyone else.

Never really measured
I called and made an appointment for Empire Carpet to come measure my house for wood flooring. I am guessing they must have had a promotion for the salesmen to sell carpeting. He talked me out of flooring with worthless reasons. I let him keep talking even though I knew I wasn't going to buy from him. He pretended to measure my rooms (which I had already done) . . . he wasn't even close. I looked at his paperwork when he supposedly went out to talk to his boss about a price (just like the nightmare of buying a car), and he hadn't even done any calculations. He pulled the same trick as in one of the other comments - after giving me a absolutely out of the question quote, he then asked "how much would you be willing to pay"? I told him and he said that they would go for it, if I agreed to have a sign in my yard for Empire. I said I would think about it, and finally after 2 1/2 hours of hot air from the salesman, he left. I went to another company, got much better carpeting (by weight and material) and better padding for half the cost!!! Empire is a racket - stay away for doing business with them.

An Absolute NIGHTMARE
I had an absolutely nightmarish experience with Empire installers in Pittsburgh. I had just spent a great deal of time and effort finishing the basement in my new home, and I ordered a plush blue carpet from Empire. The installers barely spoke English, but seemed to be polite and got straight to work.
A few days after the carpet was installed, my then-boyfriend (now DH) noticed a plastic Coke bottle filled with URINE sitting on the floor in the corner of the laundry room. There's no question that is was urine, and there was nobody else in the house to have done such a thing. It was somewhat concealed between the furnace and a step stool in the corner. I have never been so disgusted or appalled; if they couldn't ask to use our restroom, could they have at least had the decency to leave their pee bottle in their van??
I called the company that day, and was promised a $100 rebate on the carpet installation. I should have demanded that the same set of morons who installed my carpet should be sent out to remove their own urine from my property. I shouldn't have been forced to dispose of biohazardous, potentially disease-harboring waste in my home!
I told them that I was disgusted by what I found, and then the "customer satisfaction" representative turned everything around on me - I was accused of making the whole story up since I didn't report it for three days after the installation. Sorry, but I don't examine my laundry room floor every day! How could I have even fabricated such a ridiculous story? I never did get that rebate. To this day, I am irate and disgusted that I had to dispose of some stranger's foul bodily fluids in my own home.
Despicable company, despicable people.
