Lousy service
We never got as far as an in home estimate because twice now, they failed to show up for appointments.

The first appointment was a three hour block in the morning, where not even a phone call to let us know whether or not someone would be coming was made. Three hours wasted that we could have accomplished other tasks, but more to the point, completely unprofessional of them not letting us know they were not going to even bother showing up.

My wife convinced me that it couldn't possibly happen again, and we should give them another try just a few weeks later, so today reluctantly, we had an appointment between 7pm and 9pm, and of course, no one shows up. I receive a phone call at 9pm exactly with someone telling me that the "agent" won't be able to make it on time. No kidding, really?

Horrible customer service, no matter how much they claim to be all about it. When complaining about this to them, they are speechless without an answer or even an offer of apology and any way to make this up to us.

This is one company I will highly recommend NOT to go with, to everyone I know. Why waste your precious time waiting for someone that will never arrive?

No confirmation calls prior to appointments and no-shows for the appointment times, twice now. There won't be a third chance, and I'm making sure to spread the word about how horrible they are when it comes to customer satisfaction.

Installation
I've use Empire before in Chicago and they were fabulous so I expect the same service in Kentucky, unfortunately this was a joke.
No one ever confirmed my suggested appointment and just showed up at my door ready for the sales pitch. I was able to pick quickly and the deal was sealed with incentives of (can we start this weekend, its a 3 day project, blah blah blah). They did start that weekend but now the project is going on its 3 weekend straight.
I have damage to my home, tile is cracked and was installed, air pockets in the grout, my carpet is ruined, and the hoses to the washing machine were broken causing mess in my laundry room.

I will NEVER refer them again! DO NOT USE THEM...THEY ARE HORRIBLE!

They lied to me
I wish I knew about this website before I dealt with Empire in August 2008. There were issues from the beginning. First, they sent out a salesman who gave us an estimate. There was a question about the estimate, so they sent out another guy to double check it. The second guy didn't even measure, he just gave us a price undercutting the first guy. We contacted the company to notify the manager about the unprofessional conduct that was going and they apologized. We decided to go with the first guy simply because we liked him. He seemed so honest and genuine and when he came several times to do paperwork with us he stayed for a couple hours after and hung out. I wish we had known what we were in for, but we were enticed by the offer of credit, the warranty, and the convenience. They assured us that we were buying a superior product and that was why it was more expensive. As a young, first time homeowner I didn't realize I was getting ripped off. The floor was installed and looked great for a few months. Then we started noticing areas that looked like they were buckling at the joints and other areas where the picture was coming off of the edges of the tiles. As the problem worsened we got concerned and called to let them know what was going on so we could have the issues corrected. They sent out an inspector who came at the wrong time and could barely speak english. He kept saying that my refrigerator, which is only a few years old, must be leaking. The floor in the living room, kitchen, and hallway are messed up, how could the refrigerator do that! I received a call from a customer service rep a few days later to let me know the problem would not be covered by my warranty because it was water damage. Since I knew there was no way that it was water damage, I am very careful not to let the floor get wet, they agreed to send out an "independent" inspector to reassess the situation. He confirmed that we did not have water damage and that the floor was properly taken care of. Using this report the regional customer service manager in the Philadelphia Market told me that I must have caused the damage from high traffic in my home, which is ridiculous since there are only two adults and four miniature dogs. He said they would cut me a deal. He offered to "only" charge me $2100 in addition to the $5975 line of credit we had already taken out with GE through Empire and they would put the same product down again. I told him no way was I paying more money for a floor that didn't last a year. He said he was sorry that I was disappointed but that was all they could do for me. I am still trying to resolve this huge issue! It has been and continues to be a nightmare!

Flooring
My husband & I decided that we wanted to put hardwood flooring in our dining room and hallway. When doing something like this we like to get at least 2 estimates, because of their ad on TV we decided to make Empire Today one of them. They were running a 60% sale and advertised free estimates in your home, so we called and set up an appointment and told them what we wanted.
We expected that someone would come to the house with samples, take measurements and give us an estimate. The saleman went on and on for about 30 minutes about how their product was made and how superior it was and well worth the cost, etc, etc. We wanted hardwood, but he insisted that we should go with laminte. Finally he went to his truck to get the samples, that turned out to be 3 pieces of scrap wood left over from jobs, all poor quality laminate, no hardwood. Even though, we still wanted hardwood, we chose one of the laminates so that we could at least get an estimate.
After taking the measurements, he did our estimate; that even with the 60% discount turned out to be what we expected to pay for hardwood.
We thanked him for his time and told him that we would think about it, at which time he proceeded to tell us that the reason for the 60% discount was to save on fuel cost and it was a one trip deal, if we didn't sign right then we wouldn't get the discount. We told him that we weren't impulsive buyers and that we weren't going to sign.
After he left, we talked it over and decided that we didn't like the product, it wasn't what we wanted and since we couldn't get the discount because we didn't sign we thought that was the end of it. Wrong!!!
A few days later the salesman called my husband and told him that if we still wanted the discount we had to make a decision by the next day, this is after he told us that we couldn't get it if we didn't sign the day that he was at our house. My husband told him that we were going to pass at which time the salesman got very rude. He wanted to know why and my husband told him that we didn't like his product. The guy then accused us of wasting his time and gas to come to our house to give us an estimate and told my husband that he didn't like his attitude. Finally, my husband just hung up on him. He called back and went on again about wasting his time and my husband's attitude, my husband told him not to call again.
All & all it was a bad experience and we would not recommend them to anyone.

Terrible experience
I purchased carpet from Empire today, they installed the wrong color but would not replace it for the right color. They said I had to purchase a new roll of carpet at there price, which I already purchase carpet for over $5, 000. They would not make up for there salesman wrong doings. It was all the consumers problem. They hurt the small people in this world, that does not much money to replace anything. If they were a stand up company for their product, they should go out of their way to help with the mistakes they made. Well all the complains they should be out of business. Do not purchase anything from this company.

Installers left and never started the work
This is regarding the job for the condo at Opera Plaza, 601 Van Ness Ave, San Francisco, CA 94102

Empire sales guy Doug Hart (650 515 5292) promised the 4hr work will be done today (Sat Oct 4), and the Empire contract guarantees the work to be completed today.

THe installed workers called and confirmed they will come at 10am. They came but left after winning and complaining that they have to park at a meter and pay quarters.

I spent the next 4hrs on the phone with Empire Corporate trying to resolve the matter, why the installers left in the first place and to have a 2nd installer crew send ASAP since I had to get the work done on the 4th.

Corporate office promised the 2nd crew will be here at 1pm..they got here at 4pm. BTW, i had to negotiate with security and HOA at my building to let the installers in again. i negotiated with Corporate a $100 discount.

when the 2nd crew showed up at 4pm, they wanted me to pay the full price before the work even started. Is that even acceptable? Since I needed the work to be done, I was willing to pay before the work started, however, the amount they wanted me to pay was the original, and not the $100 discounted price!

I spend the entire day for nothing. I have my renter arriving tomorrow and his room carpet is not put in place. I will loose my renter.

Empire needs to be ashamed of their service. how in the world can their sales people proclaim that Empire has best service?!!!

Poor Service
I am in the process of replacing most of the 1st floor flooring in my home (1, 500 sqft) and adding wood treads to the stairs. I tried to schedule an in-home appointment twice with Empire and on both occassions the appointment was cancelled the morning of the scheduled day. Their inability to reliably keep to a sceduled appointment begs the question if they can keep to an installation date and offer quality installation. My experience thus far with their 800 representatives and the scheduling by the local office reflects a poorly run and unprofessional organization. I'll take my business elsewhere.

I'm upset on how they do business
On July 6, 2008, I contracted Empire Today to install a bathtub liner as well as a door in our bathroom. On July 12, 2008, two installers came by at our house to do the work. However, because of the rain, they asked us to push back the installation on the following day. They came back the following morning and after spending almost two hours in the bathroom, one of the installer indicated that the bathtub liner could not fit. He also mentioned that he broke the water pipe so we cannot use it until it is fixed. I checked the bathtub liner and its size was the same as the existing bathtub. I am not a carpenter, installer or whatsoever, but I am surprised it took him a while to figure that the bathtub liner will not fit! Anyways, the damage has been done so I have no choice but to calm down and convince myself that everything will be fine.

We asked them to come back on July 19 to fix the water pipe and then the installation of the bathtub liner. We waited the whole day and nobody showed up! We have cancelled our plans for this appointment and nothing happened!

We called the customer service and we were told that a plumber would come at our house on July 26. Thank God, a plumber appeared our door on that day. He opened the faucet to check the leak and the water started to drip at our ceiling. It damaged the electrical wirings at our dining area. Things are getting worst!

To fix the water pipe, he got rid of a portion of the ceiling to replace the broken pipe. He fixed the water pipe but he broke two things: (1) ceiling and (2) electrical wirings.

We called the customer service to file a complaint about this incident. Per customer service representative, the bathtub liner is out of stock and we need to wait for a couple of days. She cordially offered to schedule an appointment to fix the ceiling but we declined. We want to make sure that they install the bathtub liner first before fixing the ceiling to avoid duplication of this incident.

Days, weeks and then a month have passed but we never heard from Empire Today! This is a nightmare!

On September 3, 2008, we called the customer service to make a follow up. Thank God, the bathtub liner is now available. An appointment was made on September 10, 2008 between 9:00-10:00 am EST. It is now 11 am and I am still waiting for the installer. I took a day off from the office just for this appointment. I hope he will show up anytime soon!

Failure to process order
Meet with a salesman to install ceramic tile in all three of our bathrooms. He assured us that the product was immediately available and we could expect installation with in two days. when we called on the expected day of installation we were told that we were not in the system- our appointment with the salesman was confirmed, however. We were also told that their Baltimore office was not responding (it was a Sat.- but we were told they work on Sat.). since we were within our 72 hour cancellation, we canceled. It is very disheartening to listen to all the advertising only to discover that customer service is not what it is says. Now we have to go to Abbey Carpet to see if they can accommodate us.

Stay away
Stay away from Empire Today. They lure you in with slick commercials and some nice customer service up front, but they *** on the back end. Don't sign the contract because the moment you do, the service goes to pot. No returned phone calls, estimated dates for measurement and installation aren't met--without even a phone call. They are awful and I will never use them again. I stupidly declined a competing offer from a local guy and now I wish I can gone with him. Bad, bad, bad. I cannot begin to express what a frustrating experience this has been.
