Total Rip off
Empire Today is a total rip off and has slimy business practices! They basically sell you flooring at the highest price they can squeeze out of you. One of the first things the sales associate asked was how much I was willing to spend on flooring. I slipped and mentioned I received the $8, 000 first time home buyer's tax credit. Guess how much our total estimate came out to for laminate and carpet in the whole house? $8, 000! What a coincidence! Originally she said $12, 000, but then added on all those "special" little discounts she wasn't allowed to give us. She also called her "boss" to authorize another discount (fakest phone call ever). We were never told the cost per square foot or anything like that, it was whatever they thought we were willing to pay. The sales associate appeared sincere, but underneath was just sneaky and sleezy. This was the first place I received an estimate and I had no idea how much flooring costs. So like an idiot, I was talked into purchasing, thinking this was a normal price (other places later quoted me at about $4, 000 less). I came to my senses later that night and called the sales associate the following day to cancel my order. She said she hadn't even submitted the paperwork yet, since it was on a Sunday. The next day someone from their office calls to ask about my cancellation. Suddenly the floor we wanted was overstocked, and they offered me an "absurd discount." I said no and confirmed my cancellation for a 2nd time. The following day I also mailed my notice of cancellation along with a letter explaining my cancellation. A week goes by and somebody else calls to confirm my order set for installation in a few days! I was furious! Three times I canceled and three times I said I wanted my down payment back, and yet they were planning on still sending out the installers! They tried to bribe me again with another discount. Also, I thought the sales associate hadn't even submitted the paperwork when I told her I wanted to cancel. I sure hope I get my $500 down payment back this time, or they're going to court. I don't understand how they get an A+ on Better Business Bureau when all I've seen is negative complaints. I think it may be because their installers and sales associates are contracted, so any complaints with them goes to the contractors and not Empire Today.

Credit of Deposit
I canceled my order only hours after the sales person left my home. I was told I would hear from someone in 1-3 business days to handle the credit. Although I would expect any reputable business to issue an immediate credit, I said I would wait. Unfortunately, no one contacted me and they still processed my deposit fee.
This business practice is exactly what I was concerned about and why I canceled. I read about other horror stories online and was shocked ET somehow managed an A+ with the BBB. It showed they had no complaints, which I think is completely false and ET is manipulating the BBB. There is no way they have zero complaints when I can find scores online.
After 5 business days passed, I called again and they said I'll receive a call in another 1-3!! That is ridiculous. I filed a complaint with the BBB--so let's see what happens to their spotless record.
Empire Today is a very crooked company. Their used car sales tactics in my home also lead me to believe I was working with a shady operation. Do NOT do business with them!

Carpet and Vinyl Flooring
I am disabled, and could not go carpet shopping so I called Empire Today. When they came to my home I was shown several types of carpet and vinyl floor samples. I told the salesman that I did not want carpet that would show footprints or vacuum cleaner lines. When I picked a color and type of carpet the salesman said it would not show footprints or vacuum cleaner lines.
Then I picked out a vinyl floor color and asked the salesman if it would show alot of dirt. When I bought this house it had very dark flooring in the kitchen, which I didn't like, and showed everything. Once again the salesman told me it would not.
When they came to install the carpet and vinyl flooring (I was told it would be a one day install) they immediately told me that they would not have the time to lay the flooring. The salesman had neglected to look at the cabinets over the refigerator, as if he did, he would have advised me that I had to have them trimmed before the vinyl could be laid or the refigerator would not fit.
The carpet was installed, and it was very late when they left. Everything I pointed out to the installers to be careful with (an electrical outlet) was ignored and they did some damage to my house when they put the furniture back. There were scratches on the walls and dirt everywhere from moving furniture. I also had two doorstops, which magically disappeared when the carpet was laid. The following day I noticed that every footstep could be seen and was very unhappy.
When they came back to lay the vinyl flooring, one of the installers used a broom that was in the garbage and my sponge mop to clean off my driveway so they could lay out the vinyl, ruining the mop and spreading bristles from the bad broom all over the place, which they did not clean up. After the installation of the flooring, they did not turn on the gas to the clothes dryer or turn and turned off the water supply to the clothes washer. In addition they put a kink in the metal tubing that goes from the back of the dryer down into the floor, so when I used it, all the lint and dust flew all around the dryer. Every appliance they touched had black hand prints from their dirty hands.
When I complained to the company, they sent people on three different occasions to look at the problem, but only one person could authorize repairing. The sales manager called me to inquire about the carpet problem, but never called me back.
I immediately called my credit card company to dispute the payment on the carpet.
I do not know at this writing how this will resolve, but I would not refer anyone to this company.
The salesmen will tell you anything you want to hear, and then they rush you for an immediate install. I was offered $100 to have the installation before the end of the month, to make the sales numbers at the end of the month look better.
What kind of company is this?

No deposit refund
This is the 2nd complaint I have put in on Empire Today. They required me to put down a deposit of $50.00 which the salesman said was refundable if I had to cancel. Well, I did cancel within the allotted time period and was told my deposit would be mail within 10-15 days after that date. It has been a month since that call. I contacted them again twice after that and was told the check had been mailed the first time and that someone would call me the second time. I have received no check and no one has contacted me. What a bunch of losers!!! I will discourage anyone from ever getting involved with this bunch of crooks. I will be filing complaints with the BBB and consumer advocates in our local area to get my refund back.

kitchen vinyl floor
Just the other day I had Empire Today come to lay my kitchen floor...To start...the first installers came and did not know that we had decided for them to do the sub-floor...we were advised that it was an additional cost...Spoke to the salesman...It was a misunderstanding and there is an additional charge...ok...so we settled on a price...another set of installers came the next day... they did the sub-floor and the vinyl flooring... it looked great... the other day I noticed that a section was uplifting...the installer came back today...tapped on it and said it was fine...I came home from work and it looks the same as when I left...Have not gotten the satisfaction as of yet...and have a kitchen floor that has a bump in it... DO NOT trust this company..they have sub-contractors do the work

bathroom
Had Empire Today install a tub/shower surround in my bathroom just about a year ago...The seal around the tub started to leak as well as by the tap area..and while doing spring cleaning I found three screw wholes in the wall on the outside of the bathroom in the hall... I should have known..the first installer could not do the new fauset/shower plumbing and since the style I ordered they didn't have, they just brought another style hoping I would like that...then he didn't have all the necessary pieces needed...A week later once again the installer came and did do the job...NOW the company sent someone out to see the problem...He came back the next day and started replacing the tub, walls and glass door...BUT did not have enought to finish... I am still waiting for him to show us and finish the job... DO NOT trust this company..they have sub-contractors do the work

Not one person gave a crap after I signed the contract
I fell for the add of 60%off carpet. Being naive we decided to go with Empire spending $3500. Then the lies began. They were not able to provide me with the specs on the carpet, found out it was polyester not nylon. They tried to string me along for the 3 days so that I would not be able to cancel. Installed 2 rooms and brought the wrong color for the third. Continued to get run around. Carpet at Lowes and Home Depot much better quality 1/2 the price. I had them take up the carpet as I cancelled in the 3 day period. To do this you have to send copy of paper to illinois. Not one person gave a crap after I signed the contract. RUN FROM THIS COMPANY.
Also when they did come and rip out there carpet, the contractor said that they had put down a 6 pound pad not the 8 that we had paid for.
Should have listened to the countless negative reviews all over the internet. Spend some time and research before you make a mistake that you will be paying for over months and living with for years.

Poor customer service
I'll try to keep things short and simple... I had scheduled an installation for carpeting with Empire and they never showed up or bothered calling. My wife took an entire day off waiting for nothing. When I called to find out what was going on, the rep told me the install date was scheduled for a different date. Sad thing is, I called my sales rep 2 days prior and left him THREE voicemails to make sure someone was coming for the install. Never received a call back so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and alas - his lack of professionalism should have been the first clue. Never even called to apologize. I filed a formal complaint with a customer service rep and they never called me back to address my issue. I even sent them an email - corporate then forwarded my message to the local branch and guess what, 2 weeks later and still no call. Is this how you want to be treated after spending $3000 with them? Think about it.

Overpriced
I saw their ad on tv and decided to get an in-home estimate. Sales person came out the next day, he was very friendly. He measured my space (700 sq ft) and sat down to give me a quote for laminate floors. I should mention here that it took a total of 4 hours to give me a quote. I picked 3 different laminate floor samples. First they give you the "retail" price --- how much you would pay if you went elsewhere. Then you're shown all the different discounts you get, and finally your price. I was quoted over $9, 000 for a laminate floor that was on "clearance." That $9, 000 did not include installation since it was free. I talked him down to $6, 800.
The next day, I price shopped A LOT of companies in the area. I asked for the most expensive, high end laminate they had in stock. The reason I did this is to see how the competitors most expensive/high end laminate would compare to Empire Today's laminate. The quotes that I was getting from competitors were no where near $6, 800. And certainly no where near the $9, 000 that was originally quoted. And definitely no where near that first "retail" price that I was told I would be charged if I shopped elsewhere.
This company plays a number game with their customers. They try to make you believe that you are getting a great deal since you are paying way below "retail." Don't believe them. Price around like I did. None of the competitors are charging the "retail" that they claim. And all of the competitors charge way below what they will quote you. This company is very dishonest and deceiving and are ripping people off. I'm glad I shopped around if not, I would have been ripped off.

I ended up having to wait 3 weeks for my carpet
We used Empire for new carpet a few years ago. First, the sales rep talked me out of the carpet I really wanted, then the carpet I finally chose wasn't available next day...or next week. I ended up having to wait 3 weeks. They sent 2 men who could not speak English or run a straight line, and the carpet down my stairs was installed at an angle! And the free tickets to an amusement park turned out to be "discount" tickets we still had to pay for. Empire refused to fix the mistakes. After looking at this horrible carpet for a few years, I finally went to a local carpet company and they will be replacing Empire's work next week. To this day, I CAN'T STAND the sound of their commercials...they make me so angry.
