Do not use!
I signed up for the free trial and then decided to pay the 11.99 monthly fee
but they have charged me twice in 30 days and the website is unavailable, so I can't even receive the service that I have paid TWICE FOR!!!

Fraudulent Practices
Our daughter received a MP3 player for Christmas, and inside was an offer for a "Free Trial" with emusic.com. We signed up, then attempted to cancel. There is absolutely NO contact information available on the website - phone or address. When you attempt to cancel, you are continuously met with "error messages", for which there is no resolution. This company has continually charged our account for five consecutive months for a service that we have never used, and a service which is IMPOSSIBLE to cancel. This is a company engagin in fraudulent practices. We emailed our bank, explaining the situation, and provided them with a link to this page. We requested that they remove the charge from our statement - not sure if it will be resolved.
FYI - if you have the filing fee, you can file a complaint at Consumer Complaints (do an online search - it ends in org). We did not have the money, so I went to the website of the Attorney General of my state and filed a complaint. I have no idea if this will resolve the issue, but I had to try. You can do a search to find the Attorney General in your state, and file a complaint online.

Scam
eMusic will bill you 1$ for a free trial, there have been many reports of them, even when you cancel your membership to keep on charging you

This has got to be the most unethical, unscrupulous company that I have ever dealt with
This has got to be the most unethical, unscrupulous company that I have ever dealt with. I agree with one of the other reviewers. . . I would give them no stars if that was an option. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give them -100. I have tried to cancel my account with them for the last two months and keep getting charges to my credit card. I just got my credit card statement again and lo and behold there was another $11.99 charge even after receiving an email from Emusic that I had canceled my account. I immediately called my credit card company and filed a dispute. I also called Emusic and went round and round with them for the umpteenth time. All this because I joined after getting a "50 free music downloads" coupon with an MP3 player. I never did get their website to work so that I could download the songs. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER do business this company. Once they have your credit card info it's impossible to stop them. And to register you have to give it to them or you cannot continue. I'm afraid that if I will have to cancel a credit card that I've used over 10 years. I should not have to do that. Be wary, very wary of this company. If you're not next thing you know you'll have hundreds of dollars on your credit card that you don't way.

Unethical business practices
Like so many others, I signed up for a "free" music download trial, during which I was asked to give my credit card information as part of the process. I was supposed to get 50 free download credits, and I carefully selected exactly 50 credit worth of music to download. I was only allowed to receive 14 downloads per day, so I downloaded my first 14 tracks that evening.

The music quality was CRAP. I have a very high end multimedia PC and not only did the music sound like it was overmodulated but I could analyze it graphically and could see the distortion. I gave them the benefit of a doubt and downloaded my second 14 tracks the next day, which also sounded like trash. I cancelled my subscription that afternoon.

Upon checking my online credit card statement two days later I discovered that the very night I signed up for my "free" trial subscription they had billed be $20.79. When I called to complain, the first person I spoke with said that I had not cancelled my subscription at all and there was nothing she could do despite my having an e-mail from the company showing that I had cancelled my subscription adn stating that I would not be billed. The second person I spoke with half an hour later acknowledged that, yes, I had indeed cancelled my subscription within 24 hours, but claimed I had downloaded 75 credits worth of music and had therefore automatically been billed for a premium subscription. Despite the fact that they could not prove I had downloaded any more than 24 credits worth of music, they refused to refund my money. I currently have a case pending with my state's attorney general's office against them.

Spread the word about eMusic.com! The quality of their music is CRAP and they are another one of those hole-in-the-wall shams being run out of a basement in some apartment building in New York City. Let's put them out of business and help NYC TAKE OUT THE TRASH!!

taking money from credit card without authorisation
For anyone else out there who has been scammed by this company: I didn't realise they'd taken a monthly subscription from my credit card for some time. I had cancelled my trial membership as soon as I joined but they claim to have no record of this. It amounted to over £200 and I sent several emails asking for a full refund but they refused to reimburse me. I had never once used their service. So I took them to the small claims court in the UK - don't know if there is anything similar in the US and I was then reimbursed the full amount.

Unauthorized Charges
I contacted emusic.com regarding charges that were made to my credit card for a service that I neither signed up for or ever used.
I was told that the “free trial” account was begun on Nov2, 2009, and was never cancelled, so they billed my card 9.99 for an audiobooks service and 11.99 for a music service for 5 months!
My credit card did not have a balance, and I did not receive any statements because my address change to the company was not processed correctly, so I did not find out about these charges until April, 2010.
I found out that my daughter had signed up for the free trial, cancelled it, and they never cancelled the account. She is a minor, and should not be able to sign up for an account regardless.
Please credit these charges back to my account. The total charges that I am disputing are:
Jan-April, 2010 @ 9.99 and 11.99= $87.92 because I did not authorize, gain anything or use the services purported by your company.
I am forwarding a copy of this letter to the BBB and complaint board, where I have found numerous similar claims against emusic.com.

I've canceled my membership twice before the 7-day trial subscription offer and was still billed on my card
I've canceled my membership twice before the 7-day trial subscription offer and was still billed on my card. What kind of racket is this people practicing and how come the BBB had done nothing about it. When I tried to enter my complaint, they asked about the physical address and ph number. And insisted not even one complaint has being filed against the company. Is it true?
