Careful what you say to an Engen pump attendant
This morning, I popped into the Engen, Penford, for some fuel on my way to a golf day. This is not my typical service station of choice, but I needed cash and this station had a autobank as well. I handed the keys to the attendant, asked for R400 unleaded and headed off to the autobank. Thing is, I was driving my wife's Isuzu 250D. The attendant was next to the pump when I came in, thus would have heard the diesel engine. Inside the fuel flap is clearly written 'Diesel only' and the door has a 250D LE logo. In stead of waiting for me, or even just asking me if I am numb in the head or something, he proceded to pump 28 liters of unleaded into the vehicle, just to inform me that 'you asked for unleaded but the fuel flap says diesel' when I got back. To make a long story short, this slip-up cost me over R1000. The Engen owner and manager seemed to be so concerned about the attendant's union that they refused to carry any of the cost of the fuel, emergency repairs, or new diesel. The attendant was not even called in. Good thing I did not ask for a tank of sand.
Is this Engen policy? I am not trying to shift blame totally, but some blame rests on the pump attendant here.

Bad service and terrible staff
Today i visit the Engen garage (Tahero) to get some gas. Being a hardcore supporter of the garage, I frequently use this garage to get my petrol if i have not visited another Engen garage. In the early hours of this morning i got petrol for the amount of R50.00 which was enough for a 14 tank or so! Today in between 13:00 and 14:00 i visit them to get petrol again for the same amount and the quantity is no longer the same. Thinking that the status of my gauge will change, i leave the garage only to realise a fewminutes later that there is no change so i go back to complain. What i got was a ***** attitude from the guy that was assisting me. His method of proof is irrelevant and when i try to ask him if something went wrong with the pump, he proceeds to ignore me and keeps telling me about a receipt which is a waste of my time. Customer service in that garage was destroyed by one person. The manager or supervisor inside was trying to help but when i asked for the attendants name they could not give it to me. Now i want someone from Engen to call me and fix this because i will complain everyday until something is done. I dont want to accuse you guys of 'petrol fixing'. I await!

Extremely poor service
This afternoon, as I was driving home, I noticed that my car was in danger of overheating. I also needed to put in petrol. I therefore stopped at Engen in Empire Road. When Hector un******* the cap part of the way on the water bottle, some of the water started to come out because it was so hot. He then quickly turned the cap back and was about to close the bonnet when I got out the car to tell him there was a problem with the water level. He told me he had checked the water and it was fine. I told me it was not and proceeded to completely unscrew the cap, with the result that a bit more water came out. Thereafter, he commented that he could then see that there was not enough water. I then got into the car and heard Hector exclaiming to his colleague 'Hayi labebalungu'. I would really like to know how race suddenly became an issue. I then paid Hector for the petrol and saw the horror on his face when he received no tip. When I arrive at stations I frequent, I usually have four to five attendants literally running to my car and ignoring other cutomers because I usually give extremely generous tips. Perhaps Hector should take note.
