First, I have an account with AT&T. When I set up my account I told AT&T that I was the only person authorized to make any decisions regarding my account. They know this and even ask me verifying questions when I call. Second, in a very deceitful manner, my office was contacted 3 years ago. They spoke to an employee who was with my company for only 5 months and never was authorized to purchase or make any business decisions for my company. They deceitfully started adding a charge to my phone bill which is very difficult to catch because the bill amount changes all the time due to long distance charges. This was my AT&T bill and another company was billing me through them without my knowing. I only wrote checks payable to AT&T. In April of this year, once we realized we were being charged this extra amount without our authorizing it, we called AT&T. They told me this was for a 3rd party company and that they would credit me that one month. They said they get a lot of complaints about this because they just start charging people without them ever knowing. We called again in May and were told it would take 2 billing cycles for credit to appear. We kept getting charged each month and received no credit. The same was told to us in June, July, and August. Finally this month AT&T said they could credit me just one month and that I would have to contact the other company, Enhanced Billing Services for more. I spoke with Juan at 877-562-2597 and he refused to credit me. He admitted that if I called him and he authorized me to bill his company that would not bind his company because he is not really authorized. Yet, that is exactly what they have done to me. Lastly, I believe the public should be protected from these kinds of deceptive business practices.
