Car Rental Damage???
We rented a car from Enterprise recently and turned down buying their insurance. A representative checked out the car with us, HE saw a small dent near the gas cap and a small scratch on the front bumper. HE stated that they didn't put down any dents smaller than the size of a golf ball or a scratch smaller than four inches. He stated it twice, once at the dent and once at the scratch. We returned the car in the exact same condition that we rented it. We were SHOCKED when we were told that the dent hadn't been there before, and we were now going to be charged for repairing it. We were told that WE must have overextended the gas cap. NO amount of talking changed anything. We've now been charged over $2, 000. Costs for them replacing the entire side panel, cost of loss of rental income, cost for their appraiser, administrative costs, and on and on. DO NOT rent from them unless you're either willing to buy their insurance, or you video the guy walking you around the car and noting all of the damage verbally. At least that would hold up in court, regardless of what scam they have going with their paperwork. I took the attached pictures when we returned the car.. sadly I didn't think ahead when we rented it. Won't happen again!

Rip Off Damage Clain
Our vehicle was damaged in an auto accident in which we were free of fault. As part of the repair process were offered a rental vehicle.

The vehicle was a red 2010 Chevy HHR. Immediately walking around the vehicle I pointed out several obvious dents, scraps and scratches. Specifically one on the rear passenger side. I remember this one BECAUSE it was obvious and both a dent and a scratch. It was dismissed by the employee because "it's not 4 inches in length." I took his word for it when the paper was marked "no damages" even though I had pointed out, by my count at least 5. "Oh those are minor, we don't count those."

Today we went to return the rental car. It started off fine. Until one of the employee's causally says "we need to write a report about that dent on the fender." Confused, I asked which one and was taken outside with the employee and the dent was pointed out. I remarked that the dent was there when I picked up the car and the employee ushered me back inside.

Typing away at the computer the employee asks me what my insurance deductable is. I ask why he needs that and he remarks "we have to file a claim for the dent and collect that deductable."

I tried to speak to the employee and the manager about it but they just kept repeating the same thing over and over. That they would have caught that at inspection time. They dismissed me, not listening to a word I was saying. Not listening to my husband who also told them that we had tried to point out that dent at inspection but it was dismissed at the time.

Finally the manager said "we would have to investigate with their claims department to see if the dent had been previously reported." My husband said "fine, do that first." They asked my husband to go back inside with them at which point the manager then hands my husband a piece of paper that says we caused the damage but we didn't know how it got there and asked him to sign. My husband refused to sign the paper, we did not cause the damage, and we left.

Minutes after leaving my husband got a email alert from our credit card that the deductable had been charged. We have filed a dispute with the credit card company and have notified our insurance company.

POOR CUSTOMER SERICE
I rented a car from enterprise for about 2 weeks while mine was getting fixed. The first time I have ever rented a car. When I received the car, I was told not to drive it out of state and not to let anyone else drive it. I was also told i could bring it back with the amount of gas in it when i got it or bring it back empty and pay 2.56/gal to get it back to 3/8 of a tank like when i got it. I took it back empty of course because 2.56 a gallon is alot cheaper than 3.40 per gallon. Jenny from the Jackson TN store advised me that since the tank was empty and i didn't prepay, I would have to get the 3/8 tank for that days rate which was 2.97/gal. I know that's not a huge difference but I am a single mother-so to me, it is!! Also, the fact that when I told her the guy told me if i brought it back empty i could get it for 2.56 a gallon, and she made me out like i was lieing in front of customers and workers in there and told me that i was supposed to pay it the day i got the car. then she asked me if i was aware there was no smoking in the cars, i told her no. The day i went to get the car, i just knew i was fixing to get a car i probably couldn't smoke in, but when the guy didn't say anything about no smoking, i read the contract and didn't read anything about no smoking, AND when i got in the car i noticed a brown cigarette filter in between the seat and center console, i automatically thought "they don't care if you smoke in their cars" and if they did it should have been in the contract. Well the girl tells me it's on the contract and that it reads, "no smoking, no excessive trash" so she was going to have to charge my debit card $75.00 for a clean up fee. finally i asked to see the contract bc my copy was at home. The no smoking, no excessive trash...WAS A STAMP! the no excessive trash part of the stamp was almost not there, it said "no e" and the rest wasn't there. and to top it all off...the guy wrote all the scratches and dents etc down when i first got the car and where did he write it? ON TOP OF THE STAMP!!! i called a manager and she told me there was nothing they could do and wouldn't refund my money because "it was on there" and agreed that it was misleading and they should probably change that policy. then in the midst of talking about it, we got disconnected. I called back and they said she was with another customer, i called back an hour later and they said she was still with a customer so i left my name and number and she NEVER called me back. This is Thurs and that was Monday. I work for the hospital which has thousands of employees. We have a newsletter that goes around every 2 weeks. I will be happy to write about this in our newsletter, because i don't appreciate being treated like that. I feel like i was taken advantage of because I am in my twenties and i'm a girl.

billing
I rented a car from enterprise and while going over the inspection of the vehicle the agent asked if i wanted the full coverage insurance or just the waiver to cover the car. When I told her that I wanted just the waiver she had me initial declining the suplamental liability and accepting the damage waiver and bodily ijury insurance. She then pointed out that if I had any trouble on the road I was to call a 1-800 number for road side assistance. When I returned the car and went over the charges, I noticed that i was being charged an additonal $3.99 a day for road side assistance. The agent coveniently writes "partial" and "RAP" as their code to tell the agent upon return that you have just been suckered for an addional charge you didn't even request. When I returned to the place to question the math discrepancy, the manager stated that I was charged for the road side assistance. I pointed out that not only was it not offered, I never agreed to this coverage since I already have AAA for that. He says "we'll its included in the coverage you purchased" and I stated that if it was included why am I being charged an additional fee? After getting extremely upset he reversed the charge. Unfortunately, how many people have gotten screwed over. I am thinking that this is an illegal practice and will continue to pursue all avenues until this bad practice stops. I am aware that the agents get part of their income from commissions when you take the insurances, but they shouldn't deceive the customer.

Reserving a specific vehicle - said available, but wasn't at the office!
Six months prior to needing a rental, I reserved a LARGE SUV (comparable to a Ford Expedition, Chevy Tahoe, or GMC Yukon). I inputted that it was REQUIRED to be a four wheel drive vehicle (not all wheel drive, but FOUR wheel drive. Both are indeed different and not the same). I also called after reserving it online and indicated that it NEEDED to be a four wheel drive vehicle. They said they will ensure that they have one for us.
Around the three months till our rental, I had called them again and reiterated that it needed to be a four wheel drive vehicle. They stated that they will make sure they have one available for us when we arrive to pick up our rental.
The day of the rental, I walked there to pick it up. Our usual vehicle was inoperable and my husband was at work, Enterprise was less than a mile from my home so I walked. Looking in the parking lot playing “which one is ours” I see nothing that was comparable to an Expedition or Tahoe. My hope in our rental with Enterprise was dwindling before I even walked into the office.
I walk up to the desk, and they have a Chevy Equinox for us. Not knowing what an Equinox looks like, we go outside to do a walk around. An Equinox is in NO WAY comparable to an Expedition or Tahoe. An Equinox is a STANDARD SUV (and all wheel drive), it does not have the ground clearance comparable to an Expedition or Tahoe, nor did it have four wheel drive that we required when we requested it six months prior.
I complained to them about it, they stated that “four and all wheel drive are the same thing” (those who have driven both know it is NOT the same thing, and I told them as much). I told them that I reserved this six months ago stating it was required that we have a four wheel drive vehicle and an all wheel drive low ground clearance will not do at all. It wasn’t even in the category that we had reserved, so in a sense we would be paying MORE for a lower category vehicle if we used the Equinox!
I said they need to get one out here that has four wheel drive. I called up my husband who was also not happy with Enterprise, and our hopes for a good vacation were going up in smoke.
The receptionist behind the counter informed me that they have a four wheel drive vehicle (a four door Jeep Wrangler) in their Winchester office (about 30 minutes drive from Charles Town) and it is not reserved yet. I asked them to get it for me. They called and said that it is reserved for me. My hopes were being raised, though my trust in Enterprise was not high because I was guaranteed that I would have a four wheel drive at the place I rented it from, so why should I trust this?
I should have insisted Enterprise, since they messed up the reservation, should get the vehicle here, however I was so fed up with them that I agreed to take the Equinox and drive it to Enterprise in Winchester in order to pick up the vehicle that SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!
I wasted at least 1 ½ hours out of my time for a screw up that Enterprise is at fault for.
I have little expectations for any rental with them anymore, and intend on renting from another company in the future.
I’ve rented from Enterprise for several years, many times. I’m sad that I cannot trust them to get us the vehicle we reserved for us anymore, especially since the wrangler was indeed NOT rented out, and could have been delivered to Charles Town that day by an Enterprise employee.

Damage Fraud
I am disputing a charge of $962.92 that Enterprise rental company sent me a bill for.

On November 17, 2009 I went to Enterprise at 601 South Cameron Street, Harrisburg PA to pick up a rental car. My car was in the shop getting fixed from an accident after someone ran me into a barrier on 581 and fled the scene. When I got to Enterprise this lady that took care of me seemed to be helpful. She walked around the car and marked down all the damage that she saw. We talked about the insurance and since the car was in good condition I declined it since I park in safe places and don't really drive that much. I signed off on the papers so that I could get the key. I left the office and everything seemed fine for a week.

It was December 1, 2009 when I was at work and got a call from the same lady that I dealt with when I first got the car. She stated that she needed to give me another car and take the car I was currently using. I informed her that I was getting my car back the very next day, in less than 12 hours, but she insisted that they had to have the first car back. She came to my work and stated that she was in a hurry as well as she knew I was since I wasn't on lunch or break. She had already started to mark down damage on the car before I got a chance to meet her in the parking lot. When I got down to talk to her she was almost finished and she said to me that she was finding a lot of damage from the previous user. I took a look at the paper she was filling out and saw that there were a lot of damages. It seemed as though she got everything after looking at the car and the paper. There was a lot of writing and this car was really beat up. I initialed the paper since she was in a hurry and I had to get back to work. She did not ask about insurance on this car which I would have taken considering the poor condition of the car and the fact that she was finding countless amounts of damage as we were standing there. She handed me the key and I went back to work. The very next day, December 2, 2009, I had to go to work so my husband took the car to pick up my car at L.B. Smith Ford Lincoln Mercury, and since there was an Enterprise on site he was told he could just leave the car there. He drove from New Cumberland to 1100 Market Street, Lemoyne. When my husband went to give the key to the Enterprise representative the representative was extremely rude to him. The guy walked around the car and stated to my husband that there was a dent on the car that wasn't marked down previously. My husband explained that we had the car less than 12 hours and didn't drive anywhere except home from work and then to the Enterprise location. He also told the rep working for enterprise that there was a bunch of damage when the car was given to me. My husband refused to sign anything since the damage was not ours. My husband left the site and accidentally left the papers in the car. When he told me about this I immediately called Enterprise and they directed me to the Damage Recovery Unit. I spoke with a rep and they told me that there was nothing reported and that unless I receive something in the mail not to worry about it.

On February 5th I received a letter as well as the bill from Enterprise for $962.92. After looking at the bill I saw that they charged me for two dents, loss of use, a depreciation fees, and administrative fees. On the letter dated January 29th 2010 it stated that I needed to remit payment within 10 days. I made a call to a guy named Mike Smith at 352-313-4637 who was the representative that was working on my case in the Damage Recovery Unit and asked what I can do to dispute this. The guy was extremely rude and short with me. He told me that if the payment wasn't in the office within 10 days that they were going to send me to a collection agency. I asked Mike if I could get a copy of the reports to see what other damage was reported that day and he said he was not able to release that information to me. I also asked if he could send me pictures that were taken after the previous user returned the car and after I returned the car. Mike said that they only have pictures of when the car was in the shop getting fixed from the damage I caused. I was told that he would email me the pictures without a problem. I waited and waited and still no pictures. Since I am looking into buying a house and need to keep my credit in good standing I had to make the payment in full which I did. Along with the payment I also sent a letter stating that even though I am making the payment I am not accepting responsibility of the damage on the car. The payment and letter were sent certified to Atlanta, GA and delivered February 15, 2010. I have not heard anything since.

I do not accept responsibility for this and feel that I was set up to take a car that they knew was damaged. Please help me with this since I do not have the money to fight this battle alone.

Itemized Bill
Normally, I would not be motivated enough to create a blog. But my request to obtain a simple itemized bill from Enterprise was so comically difficult that I decided to post the company emails on a blog.

If you thought AOL was notorious for its bad customer service then take a look at my blog:

Fraudulent Insurance Claim
After our vehicle suffered a blowout and scraped a cement barrier, we took it in for an estimate at a reputable auto body shop. At the time of the estimate they were concerned about suspension issues and told me I had to leave the car. They said I could arrange for a rental at the local enterprise office located a few blocks away.

It so happened to be that the representative that took care of me was a former intern at my company. She was very involved in our conversation and telling me exactly how much she hated her job and therefore failed to notice all of the dents on the car. The vehicle was wet and I had to wipe the water off of the surface with my hand to point out the existing damages. The vehicle interior was extremely stained and she noted that on the paperwork. Being 5 foot 2 inches I cannot see on top of the vehicle and neither could the representative to note any damage.

When it came time to return the vehicle another representative did the walk around and he being taller automatically noticed dents on the top of the car. Multiple one from possible hail damage or walnuts. I told them that there had not been any hail and I hadn't been attacked by squirrels and the places where I keep my car are treeless. They didn't want to hear it and said that they had to file a claim with my insurance company. I said I would not sign anything and any claim would be disputed.

They held me hostage until I called my agent and filed the claim in front of them. Agreeing to only drive me back to my car when my agent told them that he would call back with a claim number in a few minutes.

The more I thought about it the clearer their scam became. When you refuse their ridiculous rental coverage they do anything and everything to get you to pay one way or another. This car was a 2009 and it already had an upholstery issues it had dings and dents. If they are so avid about keeping their fleet in good conditions why would they rent a car in those conditions? Wouldn't the last person who brought it back in such bad shape be held responsible for those damages? Wouldn't they have filed a claim with either their insurance company to have the damages fixed before renting it out again? Or maybe they were just hoping the next fool to rent it would not notice and they could charge them for all of the damage. Needless to say I am very frustrated with the service and can only anticipate what grief and agony I am going to face in these upcoming weeks disputing this absurd claim.
