WorkForce 500 Printer
I purchased an Epson WorkForce 500 Printer, copier, (all in one type unit). (Purchased from a Target Store in Wisconsin.)
I set it up with using Just the black ink. I don't ever use the color cartridges. It comes with seperate colors (yellow, red and blue), and the black cartridge. Even though the printer is rather slow, it seemed to work okay. Then one day it would not print. A message appeared that one of the color cartridges was empty. In other words, if one of the color cartridges is empty, the whole system shuts down and it is not usable. The cartridges were either very near empty from the store, or the system is set up to say the cartridge is empty after a pre-determined length of time. I did not use the color cartridges, yet all indicate they are empty or very near empty within a few weeks of purchase. The blue cartridge said empty and the red and yellow showed a caution sign, indicating that they are very near empty.
So Epson in my opinion, may not be doing something illegal (?) but at very best is falsely advertising that you can replace each individual cartridge as needed. This is totally false advertising in my opinion. You must have ink in all cartridges to have any one cartridge work so the printer can be used. To make matters even worse, the new cartridges that came with the printer had to be very near empty to start with, or their printer is programmed to say they cartridges are empty after a certain period of time. Let me reitterate, "I did not use the color cartridges". When I sent the system up, I set it up to only use the black ink. So they can't use that as an excuse. Either they have deceptive advertising, or are selling cartridges with their new printers that are near empty. To add insult to injury, they have set up their printer so it will not work at all if any one cartridge does not have enough ink in it.
The ink (blue that was totally empty) I had to replace to make the printer work for black copies. The the printer has lines in some of the printed pages. They give instructions on how to clear the copies to be crisp and clear. That does not work. It say I don't have enough ink to clean the cartrides.
I am very disappointed with this deceptively advertised product, and would never suggest anyone to purchase from such a (in my opinion) shady company.

Epson stylus Photo R280
We purchased a new Epson stylus Photo R280, we had problems right out of the box, after troubleshooting Epson recommended to change the print cartridges which we did to new Epson cartridges, still had about the same problems, one of the main ones was printing to glossy photo paper We were using Avery and HP photo paper, we had large black smudges on the prints, Epson stated that
We were using the wrong photo paper for this printer and needed to use Epson paper only with the correct specifications to print properly. This printer is unusable and we will be putting it in the garbage On Monday and because of the poor customer service we will not buy any other Epson products.
Thanks, John

Warranty
I purchased an EPSON Artisan 700 on December 6, 2008 as a Christmas gift for my daughter who lives out of state. By the time she received it and tried to set it up, it was early January. The printer would not power up. She tried to return it to the local store of the chain that I had purchased it from but since it was beyond 14 days, she was told she had to deal with EPSON directly. Since I felt bad that it was a gift, I told her to send it back to me and I would deal with them.
When I received it and confirmed the problem, I contacted EPSON. After a brief attempt to troubleshoot the problem, the tech agreed that it was a defect and said they would send me a replcement. HOWEVER, I had to give him my credit card number and if I failed to return the original printer, I would be charged $275. This was more than I even paid for it but agreed as I had no choice.
A few days later, I received the replacement and it was a reconditioned unit. I called to complain stating that I should get a new unit as the original never worked. I was told no and that their warranty states that in order to get a new unit, I had to return the original within 30 days of purchase. While holding for someone in their "customer care" unit, I read the warranty. It has no mention of a 30 day time period. It did state that I would get a new or reconditioned unit based upon the status of the original unit.
When Cheryl got on the line she repeated the non-existent 30 day provision. I pointed out that it was not a provision of the warranty and I demanded a new unit. She said that I was not entitled to a new one and that was that.
The fact that they would charge me MORE than the cost of a new one if I failed to return the original broken printer while replacing it with a reconditioned unit is blatantly unfair and illogical. It is borderline fraudulent.
Do not buy EPSON products as they will not back their products up. BEWARE!

Terrible customer service
I can't put into words how bad this one is, nor what a bunch of idiots their support people are. It never worked from the get go. says paper jam when there isn't, drinks ink like water, won''t print half the time. Their support group are from Mars!
Epson just plain doesn't care.

Stylus Photo r380 died three times
I have an r380 and have been trying to get a third replacement for one month now. There services was awesome with the first two. What happened is 2 months after buying my printer the paper started to load to the left side of the printer. I called, we trouble shooted and then sent me a new one. After placing a 150.00 hold on my credit card I received the printer and set it up only to have issues with the free ink cartridges they sent me in the box with the printer. So I went out before calling them and bought $80.00 dollars worth of six new cartridges from staples. Just to have to call them to find out that the new unit sent to me was defective. Then after waiting another week they sent me another one, same model witch lasted two months. Then this printer which I still have loads to paper to the left as the first one did. I don't use the printer often but it is a key accessory for my business. We have now been on the phone for 1 month to get a replacement of a different model lower or higher than the one I have cause I can not take the chance of another one failing when my 1 year warranty is up in 3 months. What makes me made is one of the techs admitted that there is technical issues with the r380 model. So Now I still am out of a inkjet, interest on 150.00, and 80.00. I am pissed!!! Dont by epson!!!

Terrible service
I bought a box of Premium Bright White Paper online at Epson thinking it would be good for proofing. Previously I had used Epson's regular weight inkjet paper for my proofing, and it saved me a lot of money. I couldn't find this at Staples anymore though, so I went to Epson directly for it. The box says "Smooth, bright white, non-glare finish for crisp text and colorful images, plus brilliant two-sided printing". This was the closest I could find for the other paper, and being that is was designed for inkjets, I bought it.
When I took it out of the box, it appeared to be plain copy paper, like you get for a few bucks at any office superstore or Walmart. It was neither smooth nor bright white. When I printed my images, they were neither brilliant nor crisp. And because of the high absorption and bleed through, I can't image using this for two-sided printing. So there was no true statement in their claim, other than "white".
No problem, I thought; there's a money back guarantee which states "If you are not fully satisfied with the output, Epson will refund the purchase price." Since I wasn't fully satisfied, nor even partially satisfied, I picked up the phone to get the refund.
The outsourced customer service rep on the phone refused, saying the paper was not defective, and that it was only supposed to be used for correspondence. I protested, and he gave me the number of the online store at Epson. I called them, and got the same runaround. That person wanted me to call the first number again. Then when she found out I had purchased using a coupon code from the class action suit over the ink cartridges, she said no refund or credit was due at all. I told her that the coupon was like money, and if I didn't buy this paper, I would have bought something else. What BS and poor customer service, not to mention false advertising and false guarantees.
DO NOT BUY this paper! You can get a ream for less than half the cost at any office superstore. There is NOTHING SPECIAL about it. It is simply cheap copy paper they are passing off as some kind of premium bright white.
When I tried to find an email address for customer support, I discovered that not only do they not have any emails listed on their website, but they don't even have a contact category for customer support.

Bad experience!
We bought a new computer just over 12 months ago from Harvey Norman ,on the 24thFeb 2008
we bought a Epson black refill cartridge for our epson cx3900 printer from Harvey Norman Cleveland,
Batch no 002206340. I put it into my printer and a message kept coming up that it was the wrong brand. I phoned the support department and spoke to a very nice young woman who tried to work through the problem with me, we assumed the printer had something wrong with it, I was then referred to Epson I tried phoning them for a week without success, they were always to busy to take the call, needing my printer I employed a technical person to come and look at the wretched thing, within minutes, he told me I had been sold a dodgy cartridge even though it had epson written all over it.
I have since then purchased a generic cartridge and my printer is working. The dodgy cartridge and receipt is now in the hand of the people who investigate these matters and It has a cost me a great deal of money and time to get it sorted.
