Today 25th of july myself my uncle and my two cousins stopped at an esso on the run on the n11 from wicklow to dublin heading to drogheda. We had just left our camp site as we had been camping since wednesday. I had very little money left and decided it would be handier to stop at a garage on the way home to purchase something to eat. I usually like the food out of these stores and so passed many garages until we found an on the run. I went inside to buy a bread roll with butter and cheese. that is all i wanted and assuming that since it was only one filling...in fact one slice of cheese I presumed that this would cost at most e1.50/e2.00, which i was willing to pay. I was going to also purchase a packet of crisps and a mineral to do me for brunch as it was after 12pm at this stage. After waiting in a queue for approx 5 mins with only two customers in front of me one of whom had already ordered and one who was being served I asked for the price of a roll with butter and cheese and was told e4.85. I did a double take and asked again and the girl serving at the deli counter again responded with yes e4.85. I realise there is a recession and businesses need to make their money but i thought this was ridiculous. I did notice a set menu of rolls and hot food but i presumed that as in many delis one could purchase a roll not advertised for less than the set price. I did purchase a packet of crisps a snickers ice-cream and a small bottle of diet coke as at this stage i was hungry and just needed something in my stomach. I did not complain to the shop manager as i was exhausted and annoyed and did not want to take my anger out on him as he does not set the prices. That is why I write to you. It is a disgrace and unless I hear a reasonable explanation (and ''we can only charge by the set menu'') will not be accepted, I will never buy from an on the run garage again.
