Car Insurance
In 2004, I had 2 auto accidents that were 2 months apart. Neither were my fault. Esurance stopped my PIP benefits for the 1st when I had the 2nd accident. I guess they felt I had recovered. However, injuries from the 1st got worse with the 2nd car accident. Esurance sent me to 2 independent medical exams. The chiropractor said that I chiropractor could never help me. The 2nd was a pain and rehab dr who said I should go home and exercise. When I did not get better in 2006, I went to a neurosurgeon who told me that I needed 2 surgeries. Esurance has ignored my letters and I have been suffering and in a lot of pain ever since. My back has gotten much worse in those areas and is now described as severe. I have lost my job and my health insurance shortly after the accidents. My boss was not happy that I could not do the same job that I used to do. I have filed a complaint letter with Esurance and plan to file suit on Oct. 20, 2009 if I do not get response this time. These accidents have destroyed my life.

Terrible company
I started my search for automobile insurance with Geico and after the amount was too high I went to Esurance.com. After i received a quote and my payment was taken, my monthly payment increased two times. I was told that the state of FL by law would not let me cancel with in 60 days and that i would be charged a fee. I could not afford the new payment but i stuck it out and when my 60 days was up i sought more affordable insurance, a 100 dollars a month cheaper to be exact, and canceled the policy with Esurance. They still charged me a 10% cancellation fee after the 60 days of $84 dollars. I would not recommend this insurance company.

Avoid this company
I was in an accident on Aug 20. I was rear ended at 30 mile per hour and my car was totaled. So please keep in mind that this accident was in no way my fault and could not be prevented or avoided.
I called Esurance and the man that answered was everything you needed after being in an accident. He was kind and very patient. The next day I talked to a case worker and she was very nice and walked me through what would happen next. The appraisor came out and saw my car. He valued the car at $7400!?!? Kelly blue book valued my car at $9180. How could this happen.
So Mr. Appraisor went to autotrader.com and picked three cars in my area from private sellers. One car was valued at 11K, one at 9.5K and the other at 7K. The average is 9K+. The appraisor basically claimed in his report that I could replace my car with 7K.
The adjuster sent me the report I am mentioning (this is a very useful tool, if you do not have it request it). I called her and explained that this was outrageous. There was no way I was going to be able to replace my car with the amount they claimed it was worth. So I emailed her the KBB value and a handful of auto trader ads for cars in my area and told her it was unrealistic to think I can replace my car with the amount she quoted. She responded and said I could get my own appraisor and to make his report. If they disagree we will have to go to an umpire.
No one plans to be in an accident but it really stinks to be in one and have the people you pay on time every month really screw you over...it has been 3 weeks now and we are still going back and forth in email. Wish me luck.

They screwed me
In an effort to simplify our lives and save a few bucks, my wife switched our vehicle insurance to eSurance in May 2008. I was skeptical-I like to be able to visit an agent in-person if need be-but everything seemed okay at first. Several months later, I was involved in a motorcycle accident. It was the first accident I had ever had, and I'm 45 yrs old. I suffered no injuries, and the damage to the bike was minimal. In fact, under MN state law, this was not even a reportable accident. As it was an old bike I had elected to hold only liability coverage, so no claim was made.
However, the police did come to the scene, ask for proof of insurance, etc - and I gave them my eSurance policy number. This is standard practice, and it appears they wrote a report and submitted it to the state despite the fact that its circumstances did not meet the statutory threshold for reporting. Several months later, I received a letter from the state advising that they had contacted eSurance to verify that I had coverage, and that eSurance had DEINED that I had coverage at the time of the accident. Subsequently, my license to drive was being suspended and the license plates on my bike were revoked and had to be surrendered.
I contacted the state immediately, and told them my story, and faxed them documents that I had, including the binder & credit card records of payments that proved I had paid the amount specified for that coverage. They were satisfied, and said they were familiar with problems of this sort with eSurance. They saw I had a perfect driving record, would have no trouble getting insured, and who in the world drives a motorcycle without insurance to save $60 a year? They said if I secured coverage elsewhere and gave them proof of having done so, they would correct my record.
Now here’s the rub: eSurance DOES NOT insure motorcycles! Yes, that’s right. They ACT like they do, and will SELL motorcycle insurance to you, but the company that underwrites the policy is NOT eSurance. So does eSurance tell you that at the time you give them money for your motorcycle insurance policy? No, they don't. Incidentally, they made a notation on my auto insurance with a code number which seemed to correspond to my purchase of motorcycle coverage, but looking at my insurance documents and cab card, motorcycle coverage is not specified. However, the difference between what I paid for my car and the total bill equals what I paid for motorcycle coverage.
So, when they were asked to verify motorcycle insurance was in effect, did they tell them that they had sold me a policy from another company - or refer them to that company to verify it was in force? No, they simply denied me.
Incidentally, I cancelled my coverage with eSurance immediately after securing coverage with GEICO - and I actually saved a lot of money switching to them. Two weeks later, I received a letter from eSurance advising me that THEY were canceling my coverage because I HAD A REPORTABLE ACCIDENT & HAD NOT REPORTED IT TO THEM, AND HAD FALSELY claimed to have my motorcycle insured by them. Someone want to tell me why I would have to report an accident to them if I DIDN'T have a policy with them in the first place?
Esurance is an absurd company, seems to cater to those with difficulty getting insurance coverage, and either intentionally obtuse or is just clueless. In any case, I do NOT recommend you ever purchase coverage thru eSurance - and caution anyone who must deal with them or their insured persons related to a claim.

Check your rates
I went to esurance two years ago after another carrier dropped me because of an accident. At first, I thought their rates were fair considering my accident. However, after two years, my rates weren't coming down, but points were coming off my driving record. When I questionsed them, I was informed that they count points for 5 years. I live in CA and in CA, I thought tickets and accidents were only supposed to be held against you for 3 years. So I called other insurance carriers. What I found is several carriers only went back three years and the result was, my new insurance is $1800 a year less than esurance rates!
If you live in CA, have points coming off your driving record, and are insured with esurance, but your rates are not also coming down, check with other carriers, it could save you alot.

nonresponsive to customers
I had insurence with Esurance for six month, now I wish I didn't.
I had a ticket that I had taken care of and went to traffic school to have it off my record. To make it short, my point was on because the court had not updated the information so I had to go back to have them correct it. Once they corrected the error and taken off the point, I had contacted esurance to have the extra 100 dollars refounded back to me because that is what I was told when I spoke to a salesmen on the time of purchase. The lady I spoke to had laughed at me and said "oh, not all points are actually off the record, they stay on and that is how mine is". I requested her to look at my driving record again and refused, so I am out of a 100 dollers and lesson learned. NEVER again will sign with them and anyone who ask I tell them not to go with them. I hope they will be out of business ASAP!

Fraud and cheating company!
I engaged an agent from this company and found that my premium was less than half what progressive and many other insurance companies quoted me at. This raised a red flag. (I mean, wow, out of the blue a lone insurance company is half my quoted premium from scores of other agencies). I then started asking the agent very direct questions trying to catch him off guard or catch him lying. The more and more I pried into the nitty gritty workings of their company the more red flags were being raised. I then found this site on the internet and it confirmed my suspicious.
This is a very shady company people, don't be lured by their cheaper rates, they obviously have an unethical business model that is set up to glean extra revenue from the customer with various nickel and dime charges hidden in fine print.
Sooo, I decided to call up again with a total bogus name and info and pretend I was going to buy policy. I asked the same direct questions and even presented various scenario's to the agent (various scenarios wherein I would file a claim, and their resulting process) Both agent's conflicted greatly in what they said. This was the nail in the coffin for me. This is a very very shady company.
I plan on contacting everyone here that was 'robbed' by this company and I plan on contacting the Better Business Bureau.
Not to mention they claim to be based in California, yet the only address I found was a PO Box in South Dakota. Yes, a PO Box. What kind of reputable company does business from a PO Box. The only companies I can think of are collection agencies and other low-rent type of businesses.
Something else very questionable was their response to my inquiries regarding the need and use of my social security number. (Because outside of home loans, auto loans and medical insurance, I don't give me social to anyone for any reason what so ever.) When I asked both agents why my social security number was needed they fumbled around with responses and contradicted each other. (Finally after I said 'well thanks for your time but I do not render my social to just any random business - I will have to pass on this policy', only then did they say they could give me a policy without it) Shady! Shady! Shady! In the end they claimed it was to ensure 'my policy is as accurate as possible'. Absolute rubbage. It is obviously used for collection purposes when the customer ultimately cancels their policy and then gets reamed with cancellation penalties hidden in fine print. Who ever heard of a cancellation penalty from an insurance company...

Charging to cancel policy!
My policy is not even a month in to the renew time and when I called to cancel it they charged me 10% of the remaining amount owed on the policy. I have never heard of any other insurance doing that and I have had at least four companies!

Esurance - is a rip-off insurance company!
Senior Esurance employees scan the internet for negative comments about "their" company. These as usually full-blown zealots that will tell the public anything to protect Esurance.
I know this because I use to sit by three different zealots in the 2 years I was there. Allow me to run the scam outline by you again and explain. You take out an Esurance policy. You're required to present proof of prior insurance to Esurance - so you send it. But alas... your proof of prior insurance doesn't get processed. So the company computer rerates you for a higher amount. (The amount assessed for someone who has no history of prior insurance). And then the computer takes out a huge amount from your account to make up the difference for the rerate. You find out from your bank or cc company that a huge amount was taken from your account, and you hit the ceiling. You then call in very mad.
Is this illegal? No... but just barely. Because if you're aware that the money was taken out of your account, and you're willing to call in - Esurance might take care of the problem. Keep in mind that a significant percentage of people won't notice or call in, or want to fight it, so Esurance keeps the extra money after the rerate. (Which is a lot - taken times the total number of customers that don't call). So even if you should make the call to customer service. They tell you that the Processing Dept. checks Proof of Prior Insurance emails and letters in the order they're received, and they'll notify you when the correction is made. During the same time YOUR background can be further investigated to see if you have any speeding tickets, accidents, etc. that could lead to a justified increase. (So they can keep part the money taken from your account the second time). These games go on and on. All legal - but not the way I would want to treat people.
Then there's the issue of fees. The fees are outrageous, and the system programmers have found cleaver ways of making the fees, and other , less obvious to find for people that aren't very observant.
Want to hear more stories? Let me cut to the chase. Don't give Esurance your card number. Go elsewhere. Because if you don't. I'll be here to say - I told you.
