This message is to relay my complete frustration and dissatisfaction with this company.
In Sept. 2009 I purchased a steam mop from an infomercial under the assumption of “satisfaction guaranteed”, as advertised. When I phoned the company to return the product, which did NOT meet my satisfaction, the very well trained sales staff convinced me to keep the product by offering me a “refund cheque” for $29.99 (which happened to be the equivalent of 1 payment).
I was worried about returning the product in case it “disappeared” especially since the company had already taken out payments. Fearing I would never see my refunds AND end up with no product, I agreed to the offer of a $29.99 refund cheque and kept the product (which I shipped off to my daughter since I could not use it myself).
I waited a couple of months for the refund cheque but nothing came in the mail. I e-mailed the company inquiring about it but then noticed that only 3 of the 4 payments had been taken from my American Express Credit card. Because of the refund offer, I was under the assumption the 4th payment had been cancelled by the company.
ONE WHOLE YEAR LATER I got an email from a collections agency advising my account had gone to collections and my credit rating is in jeopardy.
NOW I am fighting to try and prove that this sales person offered me a refund and that I do NOT owe them money. It will take time for me to rummage through documents from over a year ago to get an exact date of this call. Unfortunately for me, the company is also telling me there is no record of my phone call. This is very disturbing – I KNOW I SPOKE WITH A MAN AT THIS COMPANY and this person made me an offer to ensure I did NOT return the product.
I am now investigating my options; I have registered a complaint with a consumer board; I am looking at registering a complaint with the Better Business Bureau; I will check for any other consumer groups where I can register my complaint . . . I refuse to allow any company to take advantage of me because I am a naïve senior. I was misled and manipulated into keeping a product I did not want and was promised and guaranteed satisfaction.
I will continue to post my complaints on any consumer complaint boards I find until this problem is resolved.
