Excellent Engineering Institute is an institute situated in Thrissur, Kerala (India), which offers courses like pipe-fabrication, welding, instrumentation, etc. The manager of this institute, Mr. Jose, is an ex-NRI, who is settled in Kerala now. Even though its Jose who manages this institution, the institute is on his wife's name.
Firstly let me say something positive about this institution-
* the labs here are pretty good. Maybe its because I might have not seen any other labs but I guess its okay over here.
Thats about it with the good part. Now lets get to what I wanted to let everyone know.
I saw an ad in the local newspaper in Kerala saying that they are offering a course on instrumentation and decided to check it out. On going there Jose welcomed us and briefed us about the course and the institute. He also promised a job, anywhere in the gulf on completion of this course and with a high salary (as I happen to be an engineering graduate). The fee he had asked for is 40000Rs. + hostel fee. I decided to join.
At the time of joining Jose had told us the the lab is under construction and will be ready by the time we join there. But it took another 2 months for the lab to get ready (the course is for 4 months).
We waited patiently for the lab to get ready. Jose used to check on us every now and then on how our classes were going. Moreover there was no proper teaching faculty when we had joined. Every 2 days he used to bring us a new staff and we used to learn the same topics over and over again.
The only condition that Jose kept before me was that I had to score above 60% in the final test and lab exam. For a few of my class-mates he had said 80% and others it was in grading - A1.
We all managed to do well in the exams and Jose asked us to go home once the course was over and that he will inform us when there is an interview over there (he said that the companies will be coming to the institute for interviewing, when we were about to join there). During the course period he even brought a few people, saying that they were HR's from companies in the gulf and that they had come to check out the institute and the teaching and all. (Now we wonder if they were really HR's or some of his fraud friends with whom he had worked in the gulf).
On completion of 3 months of the course, Jose asked us to start attending walk-in interviews from various consultancies. A few times he also said that the students of Excellent Engg. Inst. will be given preference during the interview. When the students went and ask this at the interview they were told that the HR's had already informed Jose not to send any of his students as we dont have any experience.
The next best part- Since none of us have got experience, Jose asked us to make fake experience certificates in order to get a job fast. What got on my nerves was that he even asked me not to include my engineering degree certificate and told me to say that I started to work just after completing 12th grade and include all my years of engineering as work experience. I was shocked to hear something like this, that too from a person who runs an educational institution.
Jose eventually managed to send a few students to the gulf but the pay was bad and moreover they were not getting paid on time. The last time I checked, a few of them had managed to return home and the parents of the rest had given a case against Jose and his institute.
Similarly there are many incidents like this. Due to the shortage of time I wont be able to include them here. I'd probably add more soon.
I just want to convey this message to all the students and their parents-- Please dont join Excellent Engineering Institute. They are complete frauds, who only intend to loot you. Now Jose has also opened up a lot of franchise branches of the institute all over Kerala.
Rather than dumping your hard earned money in Jose' pockets, go and look for the same course some place else.
There could be other institutes like this one too. But I know only of this one because I have been there and lost my money. Luckily for me, I had studied with the money that I had saved up by working for over a year. So my parents were not able to feel the pain much.
Anyways, be alert everybody, education has become a business nowdays and all they intend to make out to it is money and not professionals.
