Fairmont Pierre Marques--terrible
This used to be a wonderful luxury hotel; we had gone there for years and my husband had great memories of it when he was growing up. Ever since the Fairmont got their little greedy hands on it, it has turned to mush. We booked rooms paying $250/night; we arrived and the room was rundown and toilet didn't work. We asked to transfer to better room so they charged us $150/extra for 2 nights to get an upgrade. The room was better, more modern, but completely neglected, there are holes around all the lightswitches; it took me literally 10 minutes to figure out how to turn on the shower...well they transferred our luggage to the new room while we were at dinner and when we came back the luggage was just thrown on the floor, not even placed on a luggage rack. I went into the bathroom and found there were no towels at all, no bathrobes, no water bottles, the beds weren't turned down, nothing. We called and after 1/2 hour and 3 phone calls they finally brought the towels and one robe. The next day we went to breakfast and by the pool, came back to room after lunch and showered. Normally in beach resorts they are supposed to come early evening to change the towels and turn down the bed. Well not in this luxury hotel. When we returned later that night, all the wet dirty towels were thrown around the bathroom; they had even entered to hang up the 2nd robe I had complained about earlier that day but left all the dirty towels on the floor and on the towel racks. When my husband called to complain they said that when you make your reservation you have to specify if you want turndown service or not (of course they don't even ask you that when you make your reservation and there is no one in the world who would say they would not want turndown service. They finally came later and brought clean towels and fixed up the bathroom. Then they charged for parking which they had never done before and they duplicated the charge on the final bill. The food was really sloppily presented in the buffets, I didn't even have any appetite there. It is obvious the hotel took away all the amenities and of course upped the price for everything including parking which they used to provide free for all guests. Now the service is dismal, I would say correctly there is no service at all...this is indeed a deplorable hotel now and after so many years as guests, we would never stay there again. I imagine it will only be a matter of short time when this company goes under as well...
