Famous Footwear Reviews

So disappointed
I have NEVER been so insulted in my life! I USED to love shopping at Famous Footwear, frequent shopper until November 7, 2010! I entered the store with a friend and two children around 4pm. We browsed and tried on several pairs of shoes when we noticed an employee was watching us. We moved to a different aisle thinking it was coincidental, however, again the employee followed us. When she realized that we recognized we were being watched she picked up a random pair of shoes and looked at them. Again we moved to a different aisle making our way towards the front of the store to make our purchases when again the employee began following us. I intended to purchase 2 pairs of boots and one pair of shoes, but after being harassed, I immediately put my shoes down because I refuse to patronize a store that would blatantly follow me because of the color of my skin. There were approximately five other shoppers in the store, however, she conveniently ended up in the same aisle we were in no matter how many times we moved. I immediately proceeded to the door and started to take the children outside while their mother headed towards the counter to complete her transaction. The employee began running towards us as if we stole something. My friend left the shoes on the counter and came outside with us. The employee did not see the shoes on the counter and began to stare us down as if the shoes were in our other shopping bags so we came back in to inform her that the shoes were on the counter. She got closer to the counter and saw the shoes and realized how foolish she looked following us for no reason. We then asked to see the store manager and instead of apologizing for the employees behavior she began making excuses for her saying that there had some black people in the store before us who had stolen some items. I REALLY DON'T CARE WHO WAS IN THE STORE BEFORE ME!!! IT WASN'T ME AND I SHOULD NOT BE TREATED THAT WAY BECAUSE OF WHAT SOMEONE ELSE DID!!! Then she tried to say well she was checking every box of shoes because some shoes were missing. I have no problem with that except she wasn't checking every box. If she was checking every box she would not been able to change aisles as swiftly as we did. More importantly, the manager was not on the floor to witness the employees actions so why insult my intelligence even more with these RIDICULOUS excuses. The employee was named Megan and the manager's (possibly assistant manager) name also began with a "M" Maggie, Margie or something like that. The store was located in the Lancaster, PA (Famous Footwear Outlet, Rockvale Outlet Center). I understand retail theft as I used to work in retail in my teens/early 20s, however, to falsely accuse someone and seek someone out because of their skin color is unacceptable. To have the audacity to try to justify these actions based on an incident that did not even involve me or any parties associated with me is outrageous! I am even more outraged by the fact that the manager nor the employee did not even offer an apology. I LOVE to shop but after this incident I highly doubt that I (nor my family/friends) will patronize this company again. I would rather shop where they care about the color of my money rather than the color of my skin!

Returns on faulty products
Famous Footwear has a policy it will not take any product with or without a receipt after 30 days. I purchased a pair of boots in November. I wore them 4 times and in January the seams had tore completely out. I showed the guy that there were no scuffs. The soles were completely new but he said because it was past 30 days there is nothing they can do. I asked why he didnt back the product they carry and he informed me they absolutely do for 30 days. I feel a pair of boots should last more than 30 days. If I spend $60. for a pair of shoes they should last far more than 4 times.

I definately will not ever go back to this store no matter how cheap they are I can spend my money at other companies that are more than happy to back their products for more than 30 days.

Bad experience
I went to Famous Footwear the other day to buy shoes. When I entered, the store manager was there. As I was looking for shoes, I overheard her telling one of her employees to watch me because she thought that I was going to steal from the store. I was followed around to the point of feeling harrassed and I finally walked out of the store. Because of this experience, I will never shop at this store again. This has happened not only to me, but to friends of mine. None of us have ever stolen anything from the store as we have bought shoes there before, but were continually monitored by her.

unordered merchandise
Famous Footwear charged my debit card for and sent 2 pairs of unordered shoes. They didn't require a security code before accepting the order. I've had to file a police report and am still waiting for refund. They are affiliated under their umbrella title of Brown Shoes with Dr. Scholls which I had placed an order several months ago. Apparently one's personal information is at risk if you shop at any of the Brown shoe sites which also includes shoes.com. Don't do business with any of Brown Shoe sites unless you care to have your account overdrawn due to unauthorized purchases. They refused to cancel the order before it was received and to provide the email address where they sent the order confirmation. I became aware of the problem because my bank account went into default and I had to pay $35 overdraft fee for a legitimate check which the unauthorized purchase caused to be without sufficient funds. Customer Service is very bad. Avoid these sites unless you like aggravation and to be a victim of internet fraud !

Customer service is horrible!
I am so furious with the awful customer service I’ve received from this company. A small complaint has ballooned into a huge one because of the company’s refusal to honor the time commitments they make. I called after having an unfortunate experience in the store, and was told that someone would get back to me within 48 hours. When that didn’t happen, I called again, receiving the same assurance that a phone call would be returned within 48 hours. Around the same time, I also emailed the company, requesting that someone PLEASE contact me. I got an email saying that my email would be addressed within 48 hours. I have now called six times and sent three emails and not one has been returned. I’m warning everyone I can to NOT reward this company with further patronage. If they are not returning my calls because they are so inundated with complaints, then this should let people know that this company cares about nothing besides making a profit. I am taking a stand and using every medium available to warn other customers what is in store for them, if they ever have a problem.

Rude associate who discriminates
I went to a Famous Footwear in Ohio. I was visiting from out of state. I attempted to purchase a pair of child's shoes for 31.00. I wrote a check and it came back "declined" to my surprise, as I've never had a check decline and I had just written a check at Kohl's that same day with no problems whatsoever.

She tried to ring it again and it declined. I told her that maybe it was declining because I'm from out of state, I had no idea. I told her don't worry about it and I gave her my Visa debit card--I've been with this credit union for years and recently I got a new card and it's not like the old cards--the name and numbers are flatly printed on the card.

The associate looked at the card, then looked at me stonefaced and said, "I'm not swiping this card, it looks suspicious."

I was taken aback and told her that this card is VERY legitimate, she had my state ID as well with the card.

Associate: Do you have another form of payment, because I am not swiping that card. I have never seen a card like that and I don't want my name attached to it.

Me: So you wont even TRY to swipe my card??? There are zillions of credit cards in the world and just because YOU have never seen one like this, doesn't mean it does not exist!

Associate: What??? What are you you trying to say? That I live in a bubble?

Me: I don't know where you live, but it's a valid card. There is the eagle hologram and everything on this card and you have my ID with the card.

Associate: THAT IS NOT FAIR! YOU DON'T KNOW ME TO SAY THAT I LIVE IN A BUBBLE AND DON'T KNOW ANYTHING!

I told her I don't know where she lived or whatever, but my card is valid and I want her to swipe it.

Associate: I will swipe it, but only as a debit, I won't do it as a credit.

Me: Fine with me!

She swipes the card, I put my PIN number in---APPROVED.

I think it's over, but it's not.

She continues to berate me, telling me she didn't like the tone I talked to her in and if I wasn't doing anything wrong, why did I get shaky and upset!

I told her I got shaky and upset, because I don't like being accused of being a credit card criminal, when I did nothing wrong!!!

After she kept talking garbage AFTER the transaction was complete, I had enough. I didn't want the the shoes at this point. It was the principle of the matter now.

Me: Forget it. I've had it with you. Credit my account. I don't want the shoes now.

Associate: NO! I will not credit the account! LEAVE THE STORE!!!

Me: I will not leave the store until you credit my account!

Associate: Fine. She grabs the phone and calls the police department!

Associate on the phone with the police:
"I have a woman who will not leave the store." Pause

"African American" I then say "HA!"

She takes the phone from her ear and says, "I didn't tell them, they asked me your race!!!".

She gets back on the phone and says "okay" and hangs up.

Me: I used to work at the police department in Indiana. Let them come.

We go back and forth, me arguing YOU ARE GOING TO CREDIT MY ACCOUNT. After arguing with me, she then relents and does it.

Soon as I sign the return receipt, here comes TWO POLICE CARS.

The cop enters the store and she says, "OFFICER, ESCORT THIS WOMAN OUT THE STORE!!!".

We walk outside and I tell him how absurd this is and I didn't appreciate being accused of something, when I did nothing wrong. The officer tells me they have a right to turn down something that looks suspicious. ((whatever)))

The cop apologized and asked me for my ID. He took my information and as I was leaving, I look inside and she is in there LAUGHING and SMILING with both cops!!

So who do you think will win in this situation?

A young, white blond shoe clerk?

Or a 43-year-old college edcuated Black woman with ZERO criminal history?

I do NOT appreciate being treated the way I was, it was humiliating and I while that shoe clerk laughed and thought it was funny to send the police to the store for NOTHING, I won't rest until she is either fired or seriously reprimanded. What happened to me was wrong, point blank. I never used one expletive or was threatening to her.

Basically, I was a Black woman who intelligently held her own ground to that store and the police. I will never, ever step foot in that store again and I have forwarded my experience to corporate, with a letter detailing what happened and a letter from my credit union who were appalled that I was treated in this manner with their new "flat face" cards.

If you are black, be careful shopping in Cuyahoga Falls! I'm still reeling a week later from what I went through.

Dirty deal
This is so stupid I bought a pair of shoes (nike high-top vandal high the last pair in the store) without my husband with me to try them on, when they did not fit I brought them back and the right shoe was slightly dirty on the bottom not because of my white carpets in my home but because of this filthy store floors. I bought this shoe dirty it was their store, but their employees both said they can't sell it dirty yet all the display shoes with white bottoms were dirty as well. I had my receipt and had to get store credit because it was visible dirty. I was given their 800 # but it has been busy every time I called.

A sorry disaster
I was looking for a good pair of comfortable shoes for city walking. Before going to FAMOUS FOOTWEAR on 34th Street, Manhattan, I was at THE RUNNING COMPANY at the TIME-WARNER CENTER. For an hour, a young man at that establishment helped me so much. However, wanting to do comparison shopping, I went to this store following an advertisement I read. A sorry disaster!!!First, I asked a young woman for help and she barely understood anything about the needs I was converying. Then she disappeared, I then asked another young woman who made a half hearted attempt to be "helpful" and then a "supervisor" told her to go to another section. I then found a supervisor to register a complaint and she "apologized". Why? It didn't change anything. I asked how many people work in that huge section. the disdmal answer was ONE. I listened to rambling about customers, etc. and promptly left the store, never to return again. Pathetic organization.

Very poor customer service and mis-leading rewards program
I have been a reward customer for 8 years. Over the year, my number has worn off of my card. I have children and purchase quite a few shoes. I experience frequent frustration of the employees not being able to identify my account. My name is wrong, as is the phone number, but when I call there is always a LONG LONG wait. Finally, after many visits of not getting reward points, the guy at the register found me. He wrote the number on the back and told me to call customer service and consolidate the no less than two accounts I now have. I finally decided to stick it out and wait the 17 minutes on hold. I got an agent and the call was immediately disconnected. Nice. I was determined, so I called back. The agent couldn't find the number the clerk wrote on the card. She couldn't find the name and/or zip code. She couldn't find anything. I asked for a supervisor and waited another 7 minutes on hold! Reward cards usually encourage people to continue shopping at that retailer. After 8 years, I will never be back. I should have had quite a bit of savings by now, but with employees that don't care and executives that aren't making the system easy, I have no more loyalty. I don't know what other shoe stores are out there, but I will be finding them.
