I started my membership with One Spirit about 3 years ago. One Spirit lures a book lover in by offering books for free for joining with the agreement that you will purchase more within two years. Yet, their "Featured Selection" is a manipulative way to get more sales out of their subscribers. In the past two years, I have received at least 5 featured selections shipments without my permission. Multiple times, my credit card was charged without my consent. They send the books in a relatively unmarked package with no return address. This way you cannot refuse the package if you do not want it. In order to return an unwanted package, you have to call the company and request a return shipping label. Each time I called and complained that I had received a shipment I didn't want, somehow the representative would blame me. I had to take my credit card off of my user profile so that they would stop charging it without my permission. Recently I received another shipment I did not want at a ridiculous price. I called the company to get a return label and to take my name off the featured selection mailing list. I never received the label. I then e-mailed the company, told them to send me the label so I could return the books I did not order, and to cancel my subscription. They canceled my account, yet behold, no mailing label. Then I called the company again, got the same run around telling me that it was some how my fault I didn't receive the labels and that they would send me another one. I spoke to the supervisor and told him my complete story and again, he told me that they were not sending me featured selections without my consent but that I wasn't replying to them. I informed him that every time I received an e-mail to accept or decline the featured selections, I promptly declined them. Yet, he told me that I wasn't on the electronic featured selection notification and that I was getting brochures by mail as well with the featured selection information within it. This is a new way for them to get more sales by making a customer believe that the featured selections are only coming my e-mail, when in fact, they come by mail and e-mail. If you do not get the "mail" brochure, then they have the right to mail you that featured selection. This company intentionally undermines its customers in order to get sales from them. If you want the free books upon sign up, join. But order your extra books that you agree to purchase over time - immediately so that you can cancel the subscription. If not, you'll end up with a whole bunch of unwanted books that are practically impossible to return, unwanted credit card charges, and a whole lot of frustration.
