Always on a vacation
May 20, 2011
Vacations
We have been members for years and love it, have been to St Maarten, Charleston and Orlando. All the resorts were in great locations and we were always treated well. The product is what you make of it...IN reading the complaints...yes you take a tour and yes they try to sell something...that is why they pay you...at the end of that day I have travelled the world, paid less money and had better quality...

Excessive billing and fraudulent collections
I have not been able to book a vacation through Festiva since they took over from Equivest (equally evasive). However, I have been charged with higher fees each year and when I complain they threaten collections. This year they added a special collections of 1/3 the total cost and then when I did't pay on time, they added an in-house collections fee on each billing. I paid the bill with a refusal to pay for in-house collection as I had already been billed a late fee. The representative agreed upon the fee without the collections fee but when I received my credit card statement - he had charged that fee as well.

total scam
I agreed to a 2 night stay for $99. I was told to call 1 week in advance to set my travel dates. I called 2 weeks in advance and was told I could not travel for 3 months! I told them that was not possible because I may have to move soon, and I needed a refund. They absolutely refused. After speaking to 3 different people, I was hung up on 4 times. They won't even let me use their automated phone crap anymore; they just hang up on me as soon as I call. I got screwed out of $99. I'm so glad they didn't have the chance to take more, although I will be watching my credit card statement extremely closely because I wouldn't put it past these people to just steal even more of my money! I will never agree to one of these timeshare pressure scams again!

Misleading Salespeople
Don't believe everything you are told! When they asked how we travel, we told them we travel on short notice to Charleston all the time. They told us the package they sold us would be perfect for that. Well we have had this package for over a year now and Church St NEVER has openings available on short notice. Since then we have been told several times by Owner Services that Church St. is a very popular location and is usually booked months in advance. My job does not allow me to plan months in advance which is why we always go on short notice when opportunities present themselves. This means I have been sold a package which is just about useless to me and there doesn't seem to be a way out of it. The availability of this resort was GREATLY misrepresented during the sales pitch. Now all our travel money is used to pay a monthly payments on something we cant use. Thanks to Festiva, my family can't travel as often as we used to BECAUSE we bought their vacation package.

scare tactics
United States
Hi, I have a time share unit or points thru Equivest at Blue Ridge Villas in North Carolina. Recently we have been taken over or managed by Festiva Resorts. We have had several presentation opportunities with Festiva which we attended in thier effort to convert us to The Adventure Club. This process of converting was going to cost several thousand dollars which we would not even consider.
There lastest attempt to get us to convert is a 990.00 dollar conversion cost to the Adventure Club in which by my appraisel is not as flexible as the contract I have with Eqivest. They have what I call a scare tactic within the package. They have noted that Eqivest has a dwindling membership which is going to amount to larger maintenance fees and special assessments.
I have several questions to anyone that is knowledgeable about this subject:
Is Equivest going to go under because of dwindling memberships and defaults?
Is the fact of much higher maintenance fees just a threat or reality?
Is Festiva a time share resort that I would want to be a part of?
What is the fate of Equivest Owners if the membership does go under?
Should we hang on to our Equivest contract to the bitter end?
Any advise on this matter would be appreciated,
john

actual number of time shares Festiva owns
I just called Festiva and asked how many units Festiva owned in each of their 26 resorts. They said they didn't know and could not answer that. I asked to speak with someone who could answer that. They said that NO ONE in their whole company could answer that. Anyway, to let others out there know, just by doing a quick search, Hilton Head's Resort has 33 units, New Orleans has 21, Cape Cod has 55 and Cabins at Green Mountain has 60. Can you believe how few units they have for how many people they are getting to sign up? I think someone higher up needs to look into this.

Missinformation
I grew up in Murrells Inlet S.C., and the one thing I can tell you about the Ellington at Wachasaw Plantation East is the info they have on there web site is wrong. They say it is located in a moss coverd oak plantation on the waterway well it is not, it is located by the Hospital in M.I., not far from a Major highway. US highway 17 runs the total length of the coast from Fl. to Ma. The waterway has an access to it but it is public and you cannot get into the main plantation unless you own there. I would suggest that if you wish to buy in this resort that you look it up first or call to inquire.

Poor Services
In April of 2007, we purchased a bi-annual week at Stormy Point in Branson, MO. As part of the purchase, we traded in a Red week in Miami, which we had owned for several years. At the time, we were assured, despite asking the right questions, there was no such thing with Festiva as Red vs Yellow weeks. In January of 2008, when I paid the maintenance fees and deposited my week with II, I discovered I was sold a Yellow week rather than a Red week. It took nearly 9 months of haggling, including being tricked into paying MORE money for an Adventure Club membership, rather than owning a designated week, and contacting Attorney Generals in both MO, and NC, to finally settle with Festiva in August of 2008. I now own a Red week, I originally believed I had purchased. Today I paid my 2010 maintenace fees. I then called to deposit my week with II. Would you believe they were unable to deposit my week???? Apparently some type of paper work which converts me back to Stormy Point from the Adventure Club has never been completed. Despite this being 15 months later. The person I spoke to is supposed to be looking into it and will call me with my II deposit confirmation within a few days. We'll see. I do not hold out much hope, based on past experience. I have been a member of II for over 20 years, so it is not a matter of no membership. Just another example of poor service.

festiva rep at Ellington

best program ever
I have been working for festiva for a good lenghth of time and looked at the many complaints on the web and so far it seems as though there is a great deal of confusion not mislead people for instance your II book is only for one year. your adventure club is for two years with the option to continue. if you own with festiva you don't have to upgrade if you do not want to although the benefits out way the risks it your choice. you what you contract says it will do today it will always do tomorrow. At any time during our trying to explain how the program works you dont like it you can leave you just loose your gifts. also you get 27 resorts no extra cost just the lowest mnt. fees in the business look up the Mariot, Wyndham or Westgate their average mnt. fee is 700 dollars
ps all the sales reps are just people
you may work in a med. office, a factory we just sell vacation
please enjoy the program and you quality time with your family
