IRS reporting
In 05 I settled with FIA Card Services on a card balance. The agreement was that I would pay the principal off on a card. The interest would be waived. Great! I paid it. Nothing more until now-- I just got a letter from the IRS that FIA Card Services sent them a notification that I have an increase in income to the tune of over $1600... Now my taxes for 06 have been recalculated and I have back taxes and interest to pay. The total is more than I owed in the first place...
If I owe taxes for 'cancellation of debt', fine, but I should have been told this would be reported and at the very least get a 1099...

Bad service
I am living a nightmare with FIA Card Services. My mistake started when I signed application for a business card even though I was only an employee.
I cancelled the card in October 2007 several months after I left the company. The company went bankrupt and I received call from FIA Card Services.
I am used to pay for my mistakes and agreed to pay FIA Card Services the settlement amount. I paid it in full by the early September, but I am unable to get them to confirm that my accounts are paid in full.
Their agents made false statement on multiple occasions, never send a confirmation letter, and end conversation when I tell them I would like to record the conversation.
Anyone with this company beware - those are really bad people.

Do they actually want customers?
My husband had a FIA card for 19 years. For reasons unknown, he was ratejacked years ago to 27% interest. We of course stopped using the card. He called to see if he could get that rate reduced to be more in line with his other cards. They refused and DH cancelled the card.
His FICO scores are all above 800. If he doesn't qualify for decent rates who does?

Usurious rates
Company raised rates to 28.99%. Escalation is apparently covered in change of terms. Try reading those documents. How on earth can it be legal to charge that type of rate. I inquired about late fee charges - had we been late, the charge would have been an additional $39. Account was immediately closed. Another account, on which there was a $900 credit balance is being eliminated as well. I will not do business with this type of company.
Cost of funds maybe 5% at the worst. Pretty good money if you can get it. I doubt bad debt expense comes close to justifying that.

Scam and cheating
They told us one interest rate and then doubled it!!! Also they changed the amount we agreed on and when we called Bank of America they gave us the run around sending us to several different people and placing us on hold over and over again. We finally threatened to close our bank account so that they would not continue to take our money. Beware.
I even called my bank to get a direct # and was told by them that the phone number they had for FIA was an "interior" number- meaning she couldn't give it to me! So they CAN call me and offer to TAKE my money but I CAN'T call them and tell them to STOP!!! Who does business like that!?!??!
I was only able to reach them thanks to a number I got from a posting on this website.

Harassment - WARNING!! READ THIS CAREFULLY!!
STAY AWAY!! READ THIS CAREFULLY!! My son who is in his early twenties received a credit card branded Harris Bank managed by FIA Card Services. He moved and missed a payment. My son and I have the same first and last name but different middle initial. FIA Card services uses a collection agency called ACT Collection Services in Kansas City. ACT Collection Services uses a third party service obviously from India. I received a phone call asking about a card that I did not own and after a few phone calls, established that it was not mine but my sons. I told them that I would contact my son and that they should no longer call me as he does not live here and is on his own. The phone calls continued - ACT continued to call my wife's business line and any relatives who shared our same last name. This morning I received a call again from a person from India who told me "we are going to keep calling you until we hear from your son." That was it for me - I called and spoke to people from ACT, FIA, BAnk of America (who I believe owns FIA), and will contact Harris Bank. No relatives of a cardholder should be harassed that way. I am reporting them to the state's attorney and all agencies concerned with this and will continue to spread the word about these practices. My advice is to stay away from any credit cards managed by FIA Card Services.

They gave my info to a 3rd party
Through my bank, Huntington National Bank, I applied for a Master Card. FIA processed the application, turned me down and still has not sent a decline letter.
What they did do was illegally send the letter to an address I had more than ten years ago and no longer use! FIA claims the address was on the hand-written application. WRONG! The app was generated on a bank pc that had only current info on it! I though it was illegal to send personal info to an UN-authorized third party, but FIA says otherwise. When I find out the culprit, I will file charges with the feds.

Fraud Dept.
The fraud dept. at FIA Card Services aka Bank Of America is crazy. They closed an account over a year and a half ago due to fraudulent activity and opened me a new account. They said all the fraud charges were taken care of and I signed an affidavit. The newer account was closed in Nov 2007 due to divorce and was paid in full in the settlement. In Feb. 2008 I received a statement for $218 owed due to charges that had been found on the original account. It was from a Best Western in Europe and I have never even been to Europe. I have signed affidavits, talked on the phone for hours (mostly to people with an accent from another country) only to be told the issue is resolved then a month later the nightmare comes back in the mail. Today I faxed them 15 pages of items i had received, filled out, etc... from them. I sent it 2 times and sent the affidavit 5 times plus I am mailing it. This has been one of the worse experiences ever!!! They are sooooo screwed up. I wish I had never heard of them! Beware, stay away, close your account while you can!!!

High fees
FIA Visa card collects exorbitant fees and finance charges over a two month cycle for any cash advances. I made the mistake of using this card on a recent trip to Europe, and the fees and charges were ten times higher than the other card I used on the same trip. I canceled the card, for which no one there seemed to care. Stay away from Fidelity Visa card. Fidelity Investments should be ashamed to be associated with this card.
