Dear Sirs:
On October 5, 2009, I received what appears to be a legitimate check from Fidelity Financial Links Inc. in the amount of $4875.00. The check was the first payment in a supposedly $125, 000 sweepstakes win. The claim number is HP/JFT-0172. The telephone number given is 1-416-854-8913. When I called and gave my claim number, I was told by a man with a heavy accent, who seemed to be reading a script, to deposit the check so that it could clear and to then call back right away to receive instructions on how to complete the process to receive the balance of $120, 125.00. I was told that I had to pay government taxes of $2875.00, after which a cashiers check for the balance would be sent to my home by Fedex or UPS.
I then called Renasant Bank, on which the check was drawn, in Tupelo MS 38801 to verify funds. I gave the bank employee the account number of the check who, after looking up the account, informed me that there were no funds and that this was a scam.
Attached, find a copy of the sweepstakes check for $4, 875.00 and the sweepstakes letter.
Yours truly,
Robert Crystal
