them taking our money "FEES"
We have had it with 5/3 Bank! They have taken more of our money than anything. It is funny when you make a large deposit and your money starts getting taken out of your account by the bank, for "FEES".
We closed our account, which cac only be closed if they account is in good standings! But we closed they account the manager said that there was like $1.80 left in the account so they would send us a check for that amount. After a few days of the account being closed we receive a notice that the account is overdrawn! That is funny, they account is closed!! I contacted them and they said well there was a couple tings pending that were automatic withdraws, and they let them go through, even though the account was closed.
I know that they are doing it to a lot of people, is there anyone interested in going together to file a class action law suite? They are taking our hard earned money and it is NOT right.

Overcharged
I make deposits at this bank, receive my deposit tickets with today's date, and everything is ok... I drive off a happy camper thinking I have so many dollars in the bank. Then I start getting hit with $36.00 charges for insufficient funds for being $2.00 below my balance. Then research shows the bank is holding deposits I made to be sure they clear. So my deposits are never credited at all !!!
Back in the olden days, a bank teller would say 'hey we are going to hold your deposit for 7 days to be sure the funds are good'. Now they pretend you get immediate credit for the deposit, but never credit your account for the deposit until they feel like it, or until they hit you with about $300.00 in NSF charges.
Not sure when the people are finally going to give up on these scam artists, that our government has licensed to steal.
Like Father like son... Our Congress and the Banking System... Two thugs in bed together.
Just be careful of this bank. Open an account there for a free tote bag, and you'll pay hundreds of dollars for it !!!

Overcharged
I had received a phone call from one of the girls who worked there trying to get me to get a credit card. I told her I did not want. After that conversation a month or two later another girl called me once again i advised I did not want a credit card. She tried telling me how good it was. I told her again not interested. She then continues to tell mte well if i get it in the mail just to cancel it. I told her again very stern and now upset i did not want it. I then hung up. Several days later I got that credit card i did not want. With a 20, 000 limit. SO i called their manger was useless not wanting to help. Called their 800 number spoke with loss prevention who advised me when that girl called in my credit app she said how excited i was which was marked down. At that point i was livid. SO I filed a police report and the manager told the police that he believed his worker over me no matter what proof i provided including witness's. Needless to say I was told by one of their other workers that no one there likes her except the manager cause she gets all these application. BUT she is doing it illegally. Illinois state law says what she had done by getting my credit report and filing the false application to get me a credit card and her a bonus at work is illegal and a class a misdemeanor. To me i see it as Identity theft since i never gave her approval to run my credit report or file an application I never approved nor did i sign!!! There management even seeing how much money i took out did not wish to do anything including firing her. I had to file a compliant with LISA Madigans office which i was thrown form state to state. At some point the fifth third bank finally contacted me and took that off my credit report and apologized. To me that was not enough the cicero branch where this occurred still has never contacted me to tell me what happened after their investigation nor did they ever apologize. Be ware of their identity stealing employees!!!

5/3 Scratchoff scam
Beware of ANY "promotions" FIFTH THIRD BANK may offer. Many are just shallow promos designed to sell you a "service." The latest was their SCRATCH OFFS. I "won" 53000 "miles" IF I were to apply for a FT MasterCard. I did and was DENIED. I have 3 other credit cards which are paid off monthly. I have over $85, 000 in local bank holdings and total assets over a half mil. AND I WAS DENIED?? The reason was obvious: they didn't want to give me my "won" reward points.
I wrote to "J BARTON" of BankCard Credit in OH and NEVER RECEIVED A REPLY.
Bottom Line: THERE ARE BETTER BANKS OUT THERE
I was really surprised when I started calling other local banks, told my story briefly, and asked them what they would GIVE ME if I transfered all my 5/3 accounts to their bank.
If you are currently with 5/3 seriously consider OTHER BANKS that will be more honest.

$700 taken from my account
Fifth third bank gave me the option of an early acess account where i have 500 dollars that i could use as an advance. Every time i would get my direct deposited paycheck it would be routed to the advance account, which i was aware of. In doing so i would then depending on how much i needed transfer some of my check back into my account which changed the due date to pay back the funds. Every time I would transfer some out the due date would be pushed back so many days, until it was the 29th of December. On December 4th the bank took the entire amount i owed from my checking account thus overdrawing my account almost 400 dollars. There was no warning, except the fine print that after 35 days they are allowed to take all of it without any warning. Then when i went to put money into the account so as to not have overdraft fees, then bank took all of it for another 200 dollars in overdraft fees that are inexplainable by the customer suuport people. These fees overdrew my account a 3rd time, however the supervisor Jason felt that getting their money is far more important than a person having money to live off of for a week. When i told him how misleading that EA account was he just said that i shouldn't have been spending money if i wasn't paying them back even though the account said i had until the end of the month. Sorry jason i guess it was shelfish of me to buy food for my family...

overdraft fees
I have a joint account for my handicapped daughter and as with everyone these days money is tight, so I look-up on the internet everday concerning the account. I called the bank one day and was told a check had gone through and that I was in good standing, so I wrote a check for a bill. Well apparently that night they sent an overdraft fee of $33.00 which put us in the hole, So I called and they took off the overdraft fee. Only to have it show up the next day. I called and raised cain this time and they said with my great past of banking with them for 12 years they would wave it again. Guess what the next day OVERDRAFT FEE, so I went in and talked to a supervisor she took off the third $33.00 mistake, well tomorrow will be day 4- what do you want to bet! WHEN my checks go through the first of the month (I have direct deposit) I am moving on from 5th3rd and their greedy hands!!!

Overdrafts on ATM
I have been using ATM cards for 25 years and not once has an ATM transaction gone through if the funds are not there. They are always rejected as insufficient. You then lower the amount and it goes through. 53rd introduced MATRIX SERVICE, which is supposed to be a courtesy. It allows you to overdraft a a few dollars and charges a $33 overdraft. They told me they gave me this courtesy because I do not have a history of overdrafts...therefore, they put this on my account without my requesting to make sure I overdraft so that they can collect fees. I am still fighting with them to get my fees back.
If I do not have a history of overdrafts...why do I need something that will allow me to overdraft...it is obvious that it is to collect ridiculous fees./

Predatory Fees, Banking Practices, and Horrible Customer Service
After this being the SECOND time that this ridiculously absurd bank has given me and my partner the run around about our account, I felt it was due time to come and complain. First and foremost, Fifth Third Bank is a predatory fee bank. Jacob and I switched from Lafayette Savings Bank to Fifth Third Bank about a year ago when we moved to Indianapolis. No idea why, but we did.
Long story short. We overdrafted our account by 45 cents and were charged $148 in overdraft fees due to "Pending Transactions." I sat on the phone with Customer Service for a decade and a half with some ignorant SOB named Michelle who decided to treat me like a four year old and explain "finger painting by Fifth Third."
Well let me tell you something, I don't appreciate being spoken to like a four year old, number one and number two, they call other banks loan sharks (like American General Finance). HAH! Excuse me, but that's almost 35000% interest on $0.45.
Just watch out. These people are horrible and don't help worth a damn.

Awful bank
I had $11 in my account and purchased something for $1 and unauthorized charge was made for $14.95. Now i am overdrawn by -$4.00. I contact them and said the charge was unauthorized and shouldn't have even been overdrawn. 53rd bank then charges me $66 in fees ( even though the $1 charge was made first) They tell me i need to file a dispute, but not at there location so i have to drive to another location (and waste gas) At that location they tell me to go online or call the company that overdrew me b/c they are responsible for the $66 in fees.
I called them they credited my account the $14.95 but not the fees. I wrote 53rd head quarters and am still waiting on a reply. The next day i go to the bank and deposit money so i now have $102 in my account.
The next day after that I get a direct deposit of $304 but when i look i only have $328 because they charged me $74 in overdraft fees. When i called and spoke with the supervisor he told me that they charge me a fee for a transaction that money was put aside for but not approved and they don't post fees until that night. Which didn't make any sense b/c even online it shows that transaction cleared which left me with my original $11. The other transaction they charged was for the same thing they already charged me for the $1 transaction, but he told me there was nothing he could do. (BULL)
I have been with them for 8 years roughly. Its time to switch banks! $140 in fees because of an authorized transaction and they don't help you. I hope their bank goes under.

Rip off
I have read reports submitted against Fifth Third Bank Corp in regards to their methods of creative transaction alterations to unfairly create debits against member's accounts... I AGREE 100% and feel there should be a Class Action Lawsuit against Fifth Third Bank Corp.
Personal Incidents-
1. Fifth Third has withheld debit transactions for extended periods of time then strategically batch posted them while delaying deposits to overdraw the account. They then proceeded to initiate overdraft frees per line item.
2. Direct Deposit- Payroll Direct Deposit is to be posted and available for transaction the day of the posting. On Aug.30, over $4, 000 from payroll was direct deposited into my account. On that day, resulting from their creative transaction management methods, one of their batch postings of debits took the account negative and was overdrawn by approx. $200. Fifth Third did not credit my account of the direct deposit payroll. As oppose to crediting the account, they placed the funds that should be available from my direct deposit on hold.
It forced me to visit the branch office on Saturday morning to discuss the issues. I was told by the acting lead officer that the reason for the direct deposit being place on hold was because she personally placed the account on hold because of the overdrawn status several days earlier. During that discussion with her, I later understood, thru her own admission, that if I hadn't physically visited the office to resolve the issue, my account would still have been on hold status with no funds available.
I then asked a simple question and attained an answer that clearly points to Fifth Third Bank Corp. practicing unethical transactions at the cost of their members: My question was, 'when an account is place on hold, is it done manually, as in by a person and not systematically'; her response was 'yes'. I then asked, when an account is overdrawn, are overdraft fees debited from account thru automation, as in automatic thru their so called 'robust' system, her answer was 'yes'.
Finally my ending question to her and my point- In this day of technological marvels, why and how, from an ethical standpoint, can Fifth Third, or any other banking institution get away with running two systems (manual and automated) that clearly preys on members funds to benefit their organization.
