Poor Poor Customer Service
DO NOT TAKE A LOAN FROM FIFTH THIRD BANK. I faithfully paid every month $321 for a car loan for 4 years & 11 months on a 5 year loan. The bank was to send a final payoff bill for the 60th payment. It didn't come and I forgot to call them (my fault there). However, one month after the due date, I receive a call from a collections agency...these thugs called my work in the AM, my home at night for 4 days..I asked for a final payoff statement from fifth third..they sent it and came on a Friday, I sent the final payment ASAP...since it was at collections already, which is an outside company, the collection co. wouldn't accept that I sent my final payment to fifth third..the guy said my car was in repo status ($6000 resale value)..if I didn't pay immediately with a credit card over the phone they were coming to get it...I told this to fifth third as I indicatd the check is enroute based on their letter, with no HELP!!...big big run around between fifth third and this collections company...I final received my check back, due to being threatned and paying the final bill via credit card...customer serivce was clueless, never speaking to the same person twice..lots of my time wasted trying to get it straightened out..now I have to followup with the credit bureau...FIFTH THIRD has no due process, therefore unAmerican!! and no mercy!!

poor service
i have been a very loyal customer to this company, .. they overcharge and have horrible sales representatives. if anyone is looking to bank do not go to fifth third because you will be disrespected and overcharged.

Overcharged
I am so tired of being ripped off by fifth third bank!!!

I used my card twice on 9/5 and had over 400 left in my account. On monday the 8th a check for 700 came in on the same day i wrote it after close out and over drew me. I immediately put cash in the next day to cover the check and 1 over draft. well the check was resubmitted the same day of my CASH deposit and it was send back AGAIN because they moved the two items up from 9/5th to 9/8th so they could get three overdraft fees in the amount of 111.00 which made me short on covering the check, I am a business person and was Totally embarrassed by what they did, There is not one thing right about what they do and in the past two years it has cost me over 1000.

They prey on low income people so they can rob from us to give to the poor and I'm damned tired of it. I want to start a grassroots advocacy group to STOP what big business is doing to people who are low income. It is time to start speaking out about how this country is ran by corporate business who don't give a shit about humanity.

Terrible experience
Fifth Third Bank foreclosed on my home illegally. They used forged signature on a loan modification, which the interest rate went up. They applied illegally fees for an alleged missing payment for 7 years. NSF on a money order. Applied hazardous insurance when they did not pay for home owner's insurance. Lied about the fee and said it was PMI. The bank sent a letter promising an investigation but within hours sold my home at a sheriff's auction. Offered me a repurchase agreement but in court denied the entire thing. The bank acted as if they were working with me but this was just a scam to get me to court to have me evicted.

This bank stole my home because of all their deceit and undermining ways. Please watch out for this bank because they do not care about any of their customer's!!!

Harassment
Sick and tired of getting computer messages and then nitwits harassing me when my loan is not even late. Within 3 days of the grace period I have been harassed constantly that I paid the loan off and told them to shove it. Harass customers that are LATE or missing payments... I have NEVER been late and have to put up with this BS... NO MORE... FIRST THIRD BANK STINKS!!!

On ALL my taped recordings I constantly tell the caller how disruptive they are and I'll never bank there again. IF you want a CAR loan DISREGARD this group of NIT WITS...

Unauthorized credit request!
I was out of town for a week - I get back and there's a handful of mail. It includes a rejection notice for a Fifth Third Platinum card I DID NOT REQUEST - complete with contact information for Equifax so I can find out why I didn't get the card I didn't request.

And in that same handful of mail is a FIFTH THIRD OPTIMUM MASTER CARD ready for activation - I DIDN'T REQUEST THAT EITHER!!

I'm desperate to rebuild my credit after a long illness, I do not need this PHONY CREDIT APP and UNINVITED NEW CREDIT LINE on my credit history!!!

How can a bank run a credit check and reject you for credit you DID NOT REQUEST?

This has to be illegal. I know it hurts your credit. I'm going to check into it.

All I can think is I was at the bank about a month ago and an employee suggested I get overdraft protection. I told her to send me information on it, NOT AUTOMATICALLY APPLY FOR IT ON MY BEHALF! I GAVE NO AUTHORITY!!!

And the card I received was NOT overdraft protection - although I could APPLY FOR IT IF I WANTED TO.

I'm thinking it's time to change banks. And if they don't make communication to Equifax and the other credit reporting agencies that they did this, not me - I'm going to call an attorney.

This is insane.

Scam and theft
Fifth third bank is a completely unethical organization in the banking industry. They only post $100 of a person's deposit for 3 days no matter how long they have been banking with them or if they have a 100, 000 dollars on deposit with them. They post date deposits and also charge fees for 'pre-authorizations' that have not even posted to a customer's account. They are disgusting in terms of their predatory fee practices. I imagine most of their profit is derived from this. The 'pre-authorization' debit overdraft charge practice was actually almost outlawed in 2005 and Fifth Third is one of very few banks that pull this crap on their customers. Do not ever use this bank for anything... You will regret it deeply. They are a bunch of scumbags who specialize on charging as many fees as they can even when a customer has plenty of money in their account. Oh and if you happen to have some unauthorized charges on your account watch out. They will take 15 or more business days to investigate and in the mean time rake up as many fees as they think they can stick you with. Scumbags.

Scam charges
I was a member since 2002 of First Charter bank, a regional Charlotte bank that was very friendly, small, and accommodating. I couldn't have been more pleased with them and everything ran smooth. Soon Fifth Third Bank purchased them and turned over their leaf. Since this change, I have had 5 overdraft fees (I never overdraft!!) and for the first time in 3 years, my rent check bounced. All because 'They stop processing at midnight and my paycheck was deposited after midnight.' So then they hit me with 3 more charges. The lady on the phone told me 'that they are NOT first charter' and was as emotional as a pap smear. I went to my local branch and they refunded the 3 charges BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHERE THEY CAME FROM! I can NOT comprehend their website because they keep transactions pending for DAYS AND DAYS. To the point you have forgotten you paid that bill, so you go get ice cream, and then they can overdraft you out of house and home. The record so far is 7 days. Things that used to go through 3 hours later in the same day go through 7 days later. I don't think this is helpful to my finance strategy!

Everyone in my home town is upset because we all were fans of First Charter's friendly approach and now everyone is clearing out from this new bank. I am researching banks in my area and will begin the painful move of funds in the next few weeks. I will NO LONGER be doing any business whatsoever with this awful incompetent money grubbing bank! Please, if you like having money- DON'T BANK WITH THIS COMPANY!!!

OVERDRAFTS
I can not even believe my present situation.

I loved First Charter. In 6 years, it was financial bliss and nothing ever bounced or caused issues. The service was always fantastic, and I could NOT complain. In fact, I bragged ALL THE TIME. Then we get a letter that they have been purchased by this so called "bank."

Everything seemed fine until our funds were a little low. That's when the anguish began.

They bounced my rent check (first time in 3 years of renting) BECAUSE their policy is to process DEBITS first, deposits second! A deposit well over the amount was made MINUTES LATER. How is this fair? They rejected the check then proceeded to charge me $132 in NSF fees. I went to the bank branch (crying may I add) and demanded an explanation. They could not even tell me how any of it made sense, so they refunded me $99 of my money. I then had to take a certified check to my rental company tacked on with $80 in fees.

After that, I was paranoid. On Wednesday the online account was positive. The next day it was negative $138 due to overdraft fees DERIVED FROM A PENDING TRANSACTION. But because of how they process, again I was charged $165 in fees. I had my mom bail me out and deposit $180. She is 62 years old and should not be dealing with my stress. The teller told her since it was 11am, and cash, it would post immediately. So we pull up my account online and it's positive $43. A sigh of relief because THIS BANK CHARGES YOU $6 PER DAY YOU ARE NEGATIVE. Not so. They processed it the next day but it was EATEN UP WITH FEES by that point. So it was negative 88 dollars and now I owe my mom 180 on top of that.

I go to the local branch hysterically crying and no one can help me. They said because they credited me $99 back last week, that was all they could do. So I closed my savings and 2nd checking account on the spot. If our checks weren't being deposited in 5 days, You can BET I would have closed it RIGHT THEN.
So Thursday, mom deposits $100 to fix the account- AGAIN BEFORE 2PM. The account was positive.

This morning, we're negative $28. Why? A pending transaction from 12pm Wednesday (Today is Saturday) that has sat for days.There was MONEY IN THE ACCOUNT TO PAY FOR THIS. But AGAIN... they processed my debits first and obviously mom's deposit did NOTHING again.

I have been on the phone with this so called bank and what an unsympathetic group. I begged for someone in a suit with some clout, she said they didn't have access to that person. Basically their attitude was S.O.L. I couldn't believe it.

So now we're in the hole $26- and this group of idiots have cost us somewhere around $450 - not to mention I took 2 days off from work to open a new account with a bank. I have never been treated so unfairly in my life, and I have already left voice mails with a few consumer protection lawyers. This bank has ONLY been here in NC since June 9th.
My statement makes absolutely no sense and I'm not taking this lying down. If you LIKE to have money, You had BETTER NOT BANK HERE.
