Bank fee thieves!
Fifth Third Bank has been stealing money from us since we opened a checking account with them in November. My husband and I refinanced through Fifth Third because at the time we thought they were giving us a good deal. (Low closing costs, no application fee, no appraisal fee, etc). However, the re-financing process was a painful, frustrating experience and that should have given us an indication of what was yet to come. We have to open a checking account with them in order to refinance. I didn't think there would be any problems and their branches are more conveniently located to our house and my place of employment that our current bank was. My husband and I starting depositing our money in the Fifth Third account, either via cash or Business check. We were never told that even though we physically go to the bank and deposit "CASH", it is not available for withdrawal until at least one business day after the deposit. Also, any business checks (even if its drawn on another bank) takes at least 3 days to clear. So any transactions I may have done between the deposit date and the 1 or 3 day waiting period caused my account to be overdrawn. They charge $33.00 for each overdrawn day until enough money is deposited into the account. Because we were in between switching bank accounts, we were never able to get caught up because Fifth Third kept taking the $33.00 out first; then adding our deposits so were constantly showing overdrawn. They have gotten almost $400.00 of our hard earned money. I have never had a problem like this with our other bank(s). After our initial one year agreement with them is over, I am moving my money elsewhere. Don't do any business with them.

Poor Customer Service
I must agreewith the other customer service complaints about 5/3. I opened a checking account with them in conjunction with a mortgage a couple of years ago when relocating to Ohio.... I haven't felt like a valued customer since.
I obtained a loan with them last year for a motorcycle.... when I arrived at the closing I was hit with the news that the loan carries a prepayment penalty. Who does that anymore? I had to make a decision to go to another lender of live with it at the last minute. Nice.
Then recently I thought I'd get a HELOC for some minor home improvements. When I didn't send them my W-2 within three days as they requested, they made me wait three weeks for answer,.... and only because I had to call THEM to find out what was going on. That call required me to speak to 5 different people over a 49 minute phone call, only to be told that the documents that I faxed were difficult to read. You would think that they would have contacted me immediately to resend them. Not the case. Good thing that I wasn't in a hurry for the line of credit.
WHen I tried to explain my frustration to the loan officer, I have yet to receive an apology. I was simply told that they'd be happt to recind the loan application since I feel this way. Polite way to tell me to get screwed.
Will definately be taking my business elsewhere when my ARM is about to expire next year.

Lost funds, stollen money
Fifth third can't even handle basic math. They made a mistake with a deposit (put it in someone else's account)then charged me hundreds in fees for the privilege of taking my money. After confronting them with proof(deposit slip, original check stamped "Fifth Third for deposit only") they finally admitted their mistake and put my money back in my account(unfortunately my account was charged so many overdraft fees that almost all of it was taken.) This is their mistake, they admitted it, I have proof. Now my home has a lien on it due from some group of criminals that Fifth Third uses to collect from people they have screwed. This institution should be closed and the leaders imprisoned with rapists and murderers. We need a Gitmo for white collar crime.

Bank steals using overdraft fees as excuse
This bank stold over $500 dallors of my money by charging me overdraft fees, on money they refunded because of there errors. They also cheat you by saying your money is there, and then charging you an over draft fee if you use it. Do not bank with this company. They are the biggest scam out there.

Car Payment.. being screwed over
I have never made late payment on my acct.. last month I tried to refinance and made an appointment to meet at a branch at 11 am on a Saturday. I was told not to send my payment because we were refinancing. I had to drive an hour away to go to the appt and when I got there I was turned away because they "didn't have time" to help me before they closed at 12. I tried to contact the woman I had been dealing with over the phone and none of my calls were returned. I ended up mailing my payment late because I couldn't resolve anything. In my car payment book it shows that my payment is counted late if it's received on or after the 14th and I have about a $8 late fee. I got a letter on Oct. 17th that was dated for the 12th saying that my payment was late and that I owed them $16 in late charges (my actual payment cleared my bank on the 14th.) I sent a letter this month with a check that included the $8 - not the $16 and told them the reason my payment was late was their own fault. I sent this month's payment on the 2nd... and now here it is the 13th and in one day my payment will be late again.. I've never had a payment take this long to clear. The payment center is only one state away and every month it's taken 2-3 days for my check to clear after sending it. So, why hasn't it cleared after 11 days now? I have a feeling they're holding my payment to make it late again this month because I tried to stand up for myself by sending them a letter that wasn't even nasty... Talk about great customer service.

FEES CHARGED
I am a small business owner and an employee accidentally charged a customer $2702.70 instead of $2.70. The customer contacted the number on their card right after the transaction occurred and was told it would be taken care of. As the merchant I was unaware of the charge until after we had settled out that evening and contacted my bank rep. the next day and was told to doa refund so at 2:00 a.m. I was trying to do a refund and did not have all of the numbers on the card to complete it. I called the customer the next day and offered to give them a check to deposit in their account so they would not be over drawn. The customer declined based on the banks advice to file a dispute and told me the bank would be sending me the form to sign and return. I checked our mail each day and never received the form. I told the customer this on Sunday evening (1 week after transaction occurred) Monday I was contacted by the customers wife and called their bank to talk to Teresa. She tells me they let them use their card in the mean time and have racked up over $1200 in overdraft and nsf fees and are expecting me to pay for the fees and that she has gone above her duty and regional will not let them remove the fees. I ask to talk to someone from regional and she tells me they won't talk to me and the person I need is out of the office on this day. By now I am furious and feel like someone from 5/3 is trying to scam me out of money I do not have. I went and did a refund for the full amount and gave the customer a copy. The next day thew customer contacts me and says their basnk wants me to give her cash because the credit didn't go through. I told her I can't because I've already done the refund and I contact my bank rep that tells me her bank (5/3) has to go in get the money and deposit it in to her account. The last thing I heard 2 days ago was Teresa was unaware of this and thought it wouls go in automatically and she would have to check on it.

Poor Customer Service
Around the middle of September 2007 I closed my bank account so I could open a joint checking account. The checking account which I previously had was where my car loan place, Fifth Third Bank would take out my monthly payments.I had called Fifth Third bank to make sure they received my September payment because it was around the time I had the account closed and the reply I got was "we received your September payment and your next payment will be due by October 26th." A few weeks later I get a letter in the mail from them saying I'm past due on my September payment. I called them and explained that when I called a few weeks earlier I was told my payment was received. The reply I got was, No your payment was not received it was being processed. I hung up with them and a few hours later Fifth Third Bank decides to call my Mother's house whom which I don't live with anymore. When my Mom asked the man what they wanted the man hung up on her. My Mom called them and asked to speak with the Manager to explain that I don't live there anymore and to stop calling her house especially at 8:00 at night. She also told them that I had talked to them just a few hours ago and that it should be in their system. The so called Manager began to say it's not in the system and when my Mom said again I just talked to them the Manager's reply was "Whatever" The following day at 9:00 am Fifth Third Bank proceeds to call my work. I told the lady that I did not appreciate her calling me at work. She says my work number is on the contact list. I said and so is my house number, she said she called my house and it was busy.At 9:00 am on a Wednesday both me and my husband are at work already so no one is in the house.Later that day I look at my caller i.d. on the phone to find out she never called my house. She explains to me that I need to make a payment right away. I told her I was going to be making my October payment this week and that she will get the past due payment when I have the money and that I'm sorry I don't have an extra 300 and some dollars just sitting around. She tells me this is not a good enough answer. I said it's my answer and I don't apprechiate you calling me at work. She interrupts me and asked me again when I'll be making a payment.I said I already told you when I can. She says again that's not an answer. She also tells me that if I don't make a payment that I will be risking having my car taken away. I said I need to get back to my job don't call here again. She says we will keep calling you as many times during the day as we want until we get your payment. I said don't call my work again and I left it at that. The next day, Thursday Oct 18, they called my house 4 times in which I did not answer any of them. I have had my car loan with Fifth Third Bank for about 2 years and I have always been on time with my monthly payments and never had a problem until this. Their customer service is extremely rude and you can never talk to a Manager when asked.

Predatory Bank Fees
Beware of Fifth Third Bank, they are trying to gouge us for over $ 200 for a $ 2 overdraft. These folks are not consumer friendly. There have been numerous complaints on the net about Fifth Third's business practices. Beware!

Harassing calls!
I have never ever dealt with a company that their collection agency was based in the PHILLIPIANS!!! In mailing a car payment on September 30, 2007, (our grace window was Sep 29 - Oct 10) we started receiving phone calls all hours of the day/night. When finally speaking with a Customer Service Rep it was RUDE; THREATENING'; VERY UNPROFESSIONAL... then to top it off when I told him it wasn't my fault that the check from SOUTH BEND to CINCINATTI hadn't arrived, that was the mail services problem... he very rudely informed me he wasn't in OHIO, but calling from the PHILLIPIANS!! WHAT??? He had my account information; my personal information and I was talking to someone who didn't even live OR work in the U.S? I was appalled! Is this the way to get CHEAP LABOR??? My payment was not LATE; I didn't deserve to be harassed. I will not deal with this bank again!!! IF possible I will refinance my loan with someone else.

Worst bank ever!
This bank is the worst bank ever. They go out of their way to find opportunities to charge overdraft fees. I currently have three accounts with them, and I have been charged overdraft fees even when both of the following occurred: 1. I had money in my other accounts to cover the expenses and 2. I transferred enough money from one account to the other account to cover the expenses the SAME day the expenses occurred. I have called to complain about this to no avail. The last time I called to complain about this, the customer service representative hung up on me.
I am closing my accounts and switching to a new bank ASAP.
