doess not honor policy
This company has one of the worse service I've ever experienced. The frustating part is that there isnt much the consumer can do. I filed a claim in April of this year (2009) to have an air conditioning unit replaced. The claim was approved after two contractors made their evaluation. Even by July the units has not been replaced. I've called about evey other day and waited on the average of 30 minutes to speaked to someone about the problem. I'm beginning to thin the delay is intentional. Is there a way to file a formal report against this company?

First American Home Buyers Rip-Off Plan
June 2, 2009
Overall lack of service
On May 31 of 2008 we closed on our first home, which was provided with a home warranty from First American Home Buyers Protection Corp. Our first negative experience came a month into the warranty when FAHBPC sent us a bill for for $100 for service from March (before we owned or even put an offer on the home). It took 4 separate phone calls to FAHBPC @ about a 30 minute Hold EACH TIME! to deal with it. My first 2 half hour wait calls ended up with me speaking to someone for about 3 minutes who hung up on me! My 3rd call had me talking to someone that transferred me to another hold that I gave up on after 10 minutes. On the 4th call I got a lady who listened and said "no problem, we will just write it off". No more bill. Well after about 10 more months we finally needed (our first) service, on our pool - which was specifically included in the Warranty bought for this home. They sent a service tech. who came into my back yard, disconnected every part of the pump, disassembled the pump into about 20 pieces, and after about 10 minutes of being there stood up and said "we don't have the parts". He asked for his service fee, when I gave it to him... He left - with my pump in pieces and now my pool leaking from the disconnected parts. After a few days we called and were told that they had to order a part and would be back in about 2 to 3 weeks. I stated that that was unacceptable, we are in Memphis where you can Fed EX anything in the world here in 2 days! We even offered to pay for the priority shipping, also waiting 2 - 3 weeks of no pump or filtering of pool water will RUIN the POOL (we consulted 3 other companies)! Well it turns out that the 2 weeks for shipping a part is coincidentally just after our policy expires! Both the service tech. and FAHBPC basically said that it would still be 2 - 3 weeks and they would do nothing to service the pool in the meantime. We told them to Forget it and bought a new pump ourselves. THEN! it gets better. Turns out that the $100 bill that was never ours, that was "written off" is showing up as past 60 days late write off on our credit report which has lowered our near perfect credit score. Our year warranty with FAHBPC cost us countless cell minutes, wasted time, destroying our pool pump, flooding our back yard, lowering our credit score, and extreme frustration. Afterwards they asked me to pay my bill to renew the policy... No way in Hell!

Home Warranty Company is a fraud
I 100% agree with all the negative complaints. I am going through a very similar experience. My fridge has been broken for the last 3 months. I am on my 3rd repair company, going on the 4th. And still First American refuses to replace. DO NOT DUE BUSINESS WITH THE COMPANY! I will write more later with more as to the eventual outcome.

Failure to pay what is owed
First American HBPC is indeed a scam of a company. They invent this insurance and tell you how much you need it when buying a new home. It is not better than the extended service plans offered at Best Buy, etc.
They conveniently did not have any vendors in my area, so they made me find one and they said that they would reimburse me for the work. I followed their process and had the vendor contact them. They explained to the vendor what was covered and what to do. Apparently the vendor must not have called back to confirm the work (or so they say), so now they are telling me I did not follow their process and they will not reimburse me for what they owe. The work was covered by their plan, and they even said it is covered, but that I did not follow the "exact" process. I did what I was told to do...
I do not know there exact process, as I do not work there, but I did do what they said i needed to. Now, they are not paying. I did the work for them that they were suppose to do in finding a contractor, and now they will not pay me for the repairs that ARE covered by their contract.
What a ripoff.

POOR SERVICE
We have a home owner protection plan. On 1/7/09 we had our water heater tank burst. I placed a call to First American co. After explaining the situation and letting them know that in order to stop the flooding we had to shut off the water to the entire hose. The CSR said that he was going to submit an emergency claim and we would here back from them and a contractor within two hours and have this resolved within eight hours. Three hours later I did get a callback from a first American CSR who seamed surprised that we had not heard from a contractor. She said that she would place an additional call and would call me right back… The return call never happened. The next morning (aprox 5 am ET), I called first American to find the status of the “emergency claim” They had not gotten a hold of a contractor to come out. They had not bothered to call me to update or offer any alternatives. At approximately 9 am ET. I received a call from first American informing me that they have contacted a contractor and they would be contacting me. When the contractor contacted me they informed me that they would be at my home between 1 and 5 pm. To assess the problem. They then informed me that I would not be getting a water heater today and likely not until Monday (1/12/09) when I asked them why a plumbing co could not get a water heater for days when I could go to the home store and get one in minutes. The explained that after the assessment they need to get approval from first American and they said that First American supplies them with the water heaters and this can take several days. I called first American and was basically told the same thing.
Well 5 o -clock came and went with no plumber. I called the plumber and got an after hours recording. I called first American and after a 28 minute hold I talked with a CSR that could not contact the contractor ether, and again had no alternative solution. At this point I was in panic mode We have small children in a house with no running water and no since of urgency from anybody at first American, or there approved contractors. I ended up going to the home store and having a replacement installed on my own.
This company needs to take a serious look at there customer service, and its contractors.

Unresponsive to request for service
This is the WORST company I have ever dealt with and encourage anyone reading this to immediately cancel any business connection!
In October, 2008 I purchased a home with a First American Home Buyers Protection Corporation warranty as part of the deal. I quickly found out they do not cover MOST problems encountered in an existing home. It was also was a surprise to find out their operators are only authorized to DENY claims.
I have now been waiting three weeks to get a water leak, caused by a bad pipe inside a wall, fixed after it was initially approved. The leak continues to cause peripheral damage - WHICH IS NOT COVERED!!! - but I have no choice if I want the plumbing repair paid for and fixed. I have already paid a $60 fee to have plumber come to investigate and do not wish to waste that money.
I have contacted their '800' number (waiting over 2.5 hours on one call and an average of 1.5 hours on all the others!!!), and been lied to twice with "opeators" claiming they contacted the plumber when in fact, they had NOT.
It is obvious to me that a home warranty from this company is WORTHLESS!!!

They lie to you - not everything is covered.
On Aug 25th, a repair serviceman appointed by First American looked at my heating unit and told me that he could not fix because it was still under warranty. I had to pay $55 just for this person to tell me he couldn't help me. Then I called First American. I was told that I should call the company covering the warranty to get it fixed. When asked if I have to pay another $55 to that company, I was told that I only pay $55 for each claim. Everything above that would be paid by First American. I sent my invoices on 09/05/08 to dicsover few days later they didn't have it. So I faxed these again, only to discover on 10/7/08 that they still haven't been processed. The CSA I spoke to (Carolina) said she had no idea why this wasn't processed. Today morning I received a call from them saying they will only pay for $165 from the total of $279.05. When I asked if they had a complaints department, the person I spoke with told me that they didn't have a complaints department and I could only talk to her. She would not let me speak and hung up on me.
I tried to register a complaint on their website but there is no link to do that. You can only register service calls.

VA Inspection not good enough??
On Aug 15th I bought a house. The seller Purchased this Home Warranty Protection for me for 399 dollars for the year. According to the contract for a 60 dollar service call they would send someone out to fix whatever was covered and that would be it.
Two weeks later my Gas hot water heater started leaking. I called the warranty company and they sent out a plumber that looked like he was high on something. He briefly looked at the heater and then left and called them on the phone. A half hour later he came back and told me that they would not cover the water heater as it appeared that it had rust and therefore was pre-existing (the contract says nothing about Pre-existing instead says items are covered from day one). The rep on the phone when I called said it would be covered, then they changed thier mind. The plumber they sent said his company could fix it but I would be better off using someone else as his company would cost about 2, 000 dollars to replace the water heater and bring it all up to code. Since there is no way someone who appeared to be impaired was going to work on my house I paid him his 60 dollar fee and sent him away. I called a reputable company here in Amarillo (Thank you Franks Plumbing you guys are awesome) and they came right out the next day even though it was a holiday weekend and fixed the whole thing from the ground through the roof and only charged me 1685 dollars. A full 300 less than the other company quoted.
Needless to say I called my realtor and complained about this (in my opinion SCAM) home warranty company and asked him to stop sending his buyers and sellers to them. He called this company and complained then they called me and said they would cover my claim. I told them I would send them a copy of my invoice from Franks Plumbing. Thier resopnse was "oh you already had it fixed?" I told them that of course I had it fixed as I wasnt going to live in a house with a sick baby and no hot water. So I faxed them the invoice, and a week later they asked for a copy of my home inspection. I faxed that in as well. It was a VA inspection that clearly stated that the house had been remodeled and there were "no deficiencies". Then this scam company proceeded to tell me that the inspection report was not "detailed enough". And denied the claim. I again called the realtor and complained. I also told the realtor that I was going to call the VA, the BBB and anyone else who would listen and tell them my story. After a couple weeks the warranty company sent me a check for 500 dollars as a "courtesy". The check should have been for over 1000 dollars as only about 600 dollars of the repair was not covered per the contract. Needless to say I now am going to see if there is any way to get a pro-rata refund back to the seller, and I am going to call the VA and see if I can get them in on it since this company seems to think that the VA doesnt know what they are doing although any veteran will tell you that they are very thorough and if there are any deficiencies they will note them on the inspection and insist that the seller fix them like they did with the last house I bought. Perhaps this is a way they can scam veterans?? That is certainly how I feel. Needless to say this company hasnt heard the last of me. If I can keep a few people from being scammed by making some noise then that is what I am going to do. They may think they just saved some money by scamming this veteran, but this vet has a big mouth.

Unresponsive and do not repair issues
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. We have had a home buyers warranty through this company for almost three years and it has been a nightmare. We have had multiple claims... one for our oven, and several plumbing issues. Each time they try to fix with bandied repairs to try to make them work until the warranty expires. They do not replace items when needed. This is a total scam.
We are now waiting at home for a plumber who was supposed to arrive between 8:00 am and 8:30am. It is 10:00 am. We called First American Home Buyers Corporation and are on hold with Bernice. Bernice has about the intelligence of a pin. We have asked repeatedly for a supervisor to no avail. Bernice keeps telling us that she needs to do research and we respond that we would like to talk to a supervisor. It is now 45 min since we first called.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.

Extremely bad service/ ripoff
Very bad service and incompetence all over the place. They do an extremely poor job with follow up and documenting their service tickets. The reps sometimes don't make any notes about your calls! I am now on my second claim and see the same pattern repeated. The first time I was without A/C for 2 weeks in the middle of the summer during a heat wave, now I am waiting a week for refrigerator! I can only warn: don't sign up with this company. I will not extend my coverage.
