How the Scam works
This Home warranty company never pays for its customer repairs. They have a way to avoid payments or take more back from the customers. With my recent experince, here is the way it works:
If any appliance breaks down, a technician (approved by them) will come and inspect the appliance and then he will send the company a report. In the report, they always include few things, which they consider modifications or not covered items. They charge about $400 to $500 for these "modifications" or "not covered items" and this we have to pay from our pocket and not covered by First American. So when we contact
First American, they will say that they will repair the appliance but you have to pay $400 to $500 for these "modifications" or "not covered items" for their approved repair company. Iy you go directly to any other local appliance repair company, they may charge about $250 to $300 for the complete repair.
So now you have no other choice but to go for a cash-out option with First American. Now the company will say that we will pay to $100 (if you are lucky) and nothing more because they have a contract price with their vendor and that is $100 only. So you end up paying the other $200 from your pocket for the repair from a local company.
I have been with this company for more than 3 years but this is my first experience and will be my last year with them...

Unpaid Overtime
First American (I.T.) department is under investigation due to a Class Action Lawsuit filed against them. The I.T. division inside First American has made a huge mistake in assuming that everyone who works in I.T. is exempt from overtime. To go even further the management thought they were being sneaky and gave everyone the same title (Analyst) in their job title so they coud work every employee unlimited hours. They are in trouble now as the investigation has turned up that all employees do different jobs and fraud is fraud. Do I hear the sound of cold hard cash? This would net me about 1500 hours of overtime. No wonder H.R. pulled me into a private meeting and asked me to list every single thing I do for an entire day, week and month. I hope First American is found guilty; putting someone on call for 14 days straight and answering a cell phone every hour at night only suceeds in make me one a zombie after three days. I hope they pay through the nose.

Watch out
I was working for this company for about a while, and all of the sudden they made a doping test and they told me I came out positive, which I was really sure I wasn't and then they just fired me, we worked for an outsourced part of the company for 3 dollars per hour, stressed out as ***, we use to access people's personal information without them even knowing, which is illegal in the USA, we went through Social Security numbers, addresses, and even their loan status... It was really stressing and to reach an incentive of as maximum 30 dollars we had to provide loan status for about 300 loans perfectly. So anyone who's loans are with EMC, Option One, Indymac Bank, and a bunch of others...you should better know what are they doing with your personal information and even credit reports...WATCH OUT... First American is First Fraud...!! *** em'

Home buyers protection
This is to inform your company that I was able to settle the dispute yesterday by contacting VP for Sales and Marketing.
I did not want to wait another day hoping for them to contact me. Besides, I wanted to talk to someone who would acknowledge their representative made a boo-boo. I was also tired of hearing their customer service specialists repeat over and over that once a technician has been dispatched and arrives at said address, we will be charged.
VP said to disregard the notice and apologised.
Note: forwarded message attached.
July 20, 2006 - Consumer Message:
Towards the end of May, I noticed water stains on the garage wall where my main circuit breaker is located. The stains surrounded the circuit breaker which concerned me but what puzzled me was that the wall was dry to the touch.
So I called First American and told the representative that answered my call the situation. The plumbing company called the next day and we set an appointment. When the plumber showed up at the appointed date and time, he looked at the wall, touched it and declared he could not do anything with it because it\'s dry! So he leaves but informs us that we will be billed anyway. I called First American right after that and told the representative (I think his name was Eric) what just happened emphasizing that I had informed the first representative (a female) that the wall was not wet. Eric told me that he cannot send another plumber until the report from the first one is received then they will be in touch.
In the same weekend, I take matters into my own hands and call a plumber directly who comes and looks at my wall, looks at the floor above that wall and ascertains that there doesn\'t seem to be a leak. Perhaps those are water stains from previous damage.
So more than a month goes by then I receive an invoice from First American for $50! I am in the middle of a dispute with this company because I did inform their representative from the very start that the wall was dry. They should have informed me that sending a plumber would be a waste of money since the plumber would not touch anything dry.
I have spoken to two customer representatives who say the same things over and over and that is, if they send a technician out, I must pay. They can\'t seem to understand that it\'s unfair to bill me when from the start, their representative should have informed me sending a plumber would be a dis-service because he would not do anything anyway.
