fake invoices and past due notices
This company sent me an invoice with a service date of 09/02/10 and an amout due of $155.00 This invoice inclued an invoice #, date of service, account # type of service (Comfort Plus Plan) and my personal information(name address etc). Well I have not done business with this Oil company since the last time I filled my oil tank mid 09. I assumed this was some type of error or "come on" trying to get me to sign up for a service so I ignored it. About 3 weeks later I got another notice saying that my $155.00 account was past due. It re-stated all the above info with services dates etc. and said my payment must reach them in full within so many days. I freaked out and was very stressed. I was so concerned that maybe they confused my account with a neighbors, or that someone had used my information to get heating oil. I called the number provided and got a voicemail. I left a message and when the payments representative called me back she said that the bill was a "contract renewal". She said I had "service on my furnace a year prior and it was time to renew." My first instincts were correct. This was all a plot to get me to pay a fee to sign up for a service without my knowledge. No where on this invoice or letter did it state that this was any type of offer, renewal or optional service. I know for a FACT that this is a tactic used by companies to predatorialy steal money from elderly or unexpecting vulnerable people. Just thinking of how many people probably pay this fee thinking they must have forgotten they owed this company makes me sick. I am SO very angry and I will NEVER do business with this company for this exact reason. I kept the invoice and the "past due reminder" so that I can report them to my states Atty General. SCAM SCAM SCAM and they should feel more than ashamed.
