Illegal Fees
After paying the set up fees for this service, I used it to take an order. My customer's account was debited right away, my account was almost 2 weeks before receiving the money. Then when I called to complain and discontinue services, they informed me that I would have a premature termination fee of almost as much as the $41.15 times 12 months, they were debiting from my account each and every month. My contract, which incidentally I was roped into, was for 1 year and I could not get out of it. So not only did I sign up for poor quality service, but expensive service and on top of it all, I couldn't even use it and serve my customers in a timely fashion. I chalked it up to a lesson learned, and paid my monthly fees until my contract expired and promptly discontinued that abominable service. Then about 6 months later, I started receiving calls from a collection agency. The collection agency, Transworld Systems, has a recorded calling device, that leaves you a message. Upon calling the number back, they keep you on hold for last count was 4.5 minutes. Then you have to pull teeth to find out how much and for whom they are representing... Anyway, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THEIR SERVICES!!! They are very poor business people, only wanting to steal money from unsuspecting people...

excessive hidden fees
BEWARE! I used this company for 3 years (shame on me) before I started analysing my statements are realized how many hidden charges I was paying for. Not to mention, their transaction fees for credit card processing is MUCH higher than any of the other merchant service providers I eventually looked into. I am ashamed at how much I paid over the years for their services. I did cancel the account, 2 months ago, yet, I find myself continuing to be charged for service fees. I've called to complain and they give me some b.s. about "back fees" from months ago. Basically, I'm paying $39.95/mos. for NOTHING. I haven't used their services for months, yet I am still being charged fees, even after the account was cancelled. I've called twice over past 2 months and both times it the same story with very snobbish customer service. I see many other complaints on the web about this company. If you are a business owner, you are doing yourself a disservice by using this company and their ridiculous fees. It all adds up over time... trust me.

Excessive Charges
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!. We canceled this service because the "Additional Charges" kept getting higher and higher each month. When I called in, the rep could not tell me what the charges were for. He took my number and said someone would call me back. When I get to work the next morning, I have a voice mail from them from 11 PM !!! Do they really think my business is open at 11pm?? NOW, 6 MONTHS LATER, I GET A CHARGE ON MY BANK ACCOUNT (just says i-payment and no name), AND MY BANK SAYS IT'S FROM FIRST DATA. They claim it's a PCI charge for 2010. Wouldn't they close out all fees due when I closed the account 6 months ago?

this company is a nightmare do not use, where do i start, oh after their totaly shocking global gateway service where no one on the 1800 roundabout has a clue how to use it and i cancelled it after 1 week, andnchanged to another company, theyntold me i could not cancel, and had to keep paying a service fee every month for a service i did not want. then 6 months later they stole 199 out of my account with no right and said they had every right to do so causing my account to bouce. i then close my bank accont so they can steal no more, now i receive a letter from a collection agency saying i am in arrears $ 110 although it does not state what it is for and its some company called express merchant services ..is this them as well? i cant stand this company, their attitude is horrific towards cusomters, they are theives, and i agree with other people here they are criminals...how do i get them out of my life now thats what i want to know...i am a small retailer and do not need this...

Hidden fees
First Data Merchant Accounts is known as the global leader in credit card processing. However, they did not demonstrate leadership or anything close to quality customer service with me. I originally signed a lease with them in May 2007. I was told that I had many ways out of their lease and I could cancel their service at any time. Sales and customer service told me a downright lie. After committing to the contract and executing my first transaction I was locked into a 3 year lease which charged me whether or not I used their service. I recently got a call from a collections agency that says I racked up 500 dollars worth of fees from October '09 because I DID NOT use the service. Meanwhile, i was duped and lured into believing my lease had ended. I strongly recommend to never engage in business with this company or any of their partners. I have paid over 2, 000 dollars worth of fees and penalties after my business went under. After discovering this, I had to fight my way through layers of automated messages and customer representatives just to figure out what was going on. They seemed to be intentionally unhelpful. Their unreasonable contracts and hidden fees coupled with their complete dismissal of the customer make First Data an extremely taxing experience with little benefit. I take responsibility for my understanding (or lack there of) of their legal terms. However, the fees that First Data has levied against me are downright criminal.

Fraud federal crime
I have a yahoo internet business, Yahoo only allows FDMS First Data Merchant Services as there platform for there shopping carts on there stores, I have been open for 3 years my sales have doubled- in July 2009 I checked my bank account and was not receiving my deposits I contacted First Data and they stated since my volume has gone up I am higher risk, so they would take 10% out of each of my batches until 10, 000.00 was in a reserve. Then in Jan 2010 was again contacted due to my 5% dispute rating (this dispute is not averaged by closed or won disputes, but by disputes opened- internet business are Higher risk, people dispute if they do not receive there product in 2 weeks even if the tracking shows it is on its way and the website states it can take up to 3 weeks to receive the merchandise and every product on the site state"2-3 business days for the handling time"- so I was then told I had to write out a plan to lower my disputes and they would be once again taking 10% out of my batches till another $10, 000.00 so a total of 20, 000.00 would be in reserve. March 2010 after they had the $20, 000.00 they stopped funding me again and gave me a week to find a new cc processor and told me they will hold the $20, 000.00 for 6 months from the last day I processed threw them. I formed a corporation and open a new account under the corporation- I was just told that they will not be funding me again and they are closing that account because of my previous account that was under my personal ss #- they are holding over another $10, 000.00 of mine. This is now a total of $30, 000.00 which is double the amount required to start a federal lawsuit- I then started doing some internet searches on first data and found several other people who experience this same issue and still have not received a dime back of the money first data is holding. Yahoo only allows there online ecommerce businesses to use a processor that is first data merchant services compatible so I am stuck and feel helpless as so many other people that have been scammed the same from First Data Merchant Services FDMS who there security department who makes these decisions is in Melville New York- 631-683-6099 but when you call no one answers they promise a call back with in 24 hours - they call you back in that time frame to notify you they are holding funds and canceling your service- but not when you are trying to get your money back- it has been 2 days I have left 6 messages and no return call- my next phone call is to a attorney to start Federal proceedings- This is one of the reasons the economy is the way it is- I have had to let 2 employees go due to this loss of income, and if this continues I will have to close my business and file bankruptcy these corporations tied to the banking system and credit card industry need to be stopped and our government is not doing a thing or passing any new laws to stop this- The middle class will no longer be in existence as long as company's and there "sister company's" like First data Merchant services are allowed to destroy and take advantage of the hard working middle class business and people. They need to be stopped!

Service
Not for small business. First Data may work for big business but it is definitely not for small business. First Data will 'fee' you to death raising the effective rate of processing credit cards well beyond the industry norm.
The sales process was deceptive especially to a neophyte. Sales people represent themselves as trying to 'help' you understand card processing. Nothing could be further from the truth. They're goal is to sign you and move on.
Although the discount rate is attractive that's not the real issue to a small business offering card processing as a convenience to their customers. The fee structure is not friendly to small business.

false contracts
A First Data salesman came into my store, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, in March of 2007 offering to reduce my expenses from processing bank cards.
I was already processing bank cards through another vendor. The saleman assured me that he, First Data, would take care of getting me out of my current contract which ran until the spring of 2009. He wanted me to sign a four year contract, but I told him my lease was up in January of 2010, and I did not want to sign anything past that. I also stated that I might have to close the business before then, but he assured me that the lease could be transferred to a third party at any time. He further stated leasing was better than buying because I would be able to get upgrades without buying a new machine.
After I signed the contract, the reality of his lies set in. He failed to get me out of the first contract, so I ended up paying rent on two machines for two years. For the past three years I have paid them $78 a month, for a total of $2, 808, for a machine I could have bought from xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxB ank for $250. They have never sent me any upgrade;, as a matter of fact they want to charge me $100 to make me compliant with some new law, even though I only use their machine to process transactions.
Now, finally, my lease on the storefront over, I call them to return the machine. They tell me I have to pay them for another 12 months, that I in effect had signed a 48 month lease. This is absolutely false. The salesman must have changed the terms, and lied to me, about this and the fact that the lease could be transferred to a third party, which they are now unwilling to do. There is no way I would have signed a lease for their machine extending past the end of my lease on the storefront.

Deceptive business practices
We have been accepting credit card payments through several different processors and because of good rates promised we switched to merchant warehouse and merchant one for some of our business stores. Both merchant warehouse and merchant one clear through a company called "merchant services" with a PO Box 5009 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5009 address. We did some more investigation and discovered that the company is First Data Merchant Services. Be aware that it is true that this company will freeze your account and hold funds without notification if there is a chargeback. Now chargebacks do happen from time to time because of several different reasons but that does not mean that the processors should freeze your funds from other incoming sales. We have never experienced this with other large banks such as chase or bank of america. Their security department is very poor at returning phone calls and does not provide clear details. This company obviously does not practice complete disclosure. Also the most notable is there company is poor at sending correspondence and notification of chargebacks. We received a letter on Nov 21, 2009 for chargeback case that needed a reply on Nov 20, 2009. It is not understandable how that sort of oversight can happen at a credit card processing company since they are responsible for so many transactions. If you have encountered similar issues with your credit card company please contact your state's Attorney General and the FTC. A similar review can be found about Merchant Services here:

Please submit your complaint to the FTC. It is very important.

hidden fees
I was charged a $129 fee for account maintenance that I was never told about. On top of fees that I had to pay monthly that were also indisclosed. After my contract was up (which i throughly read before siging up) they pulled a $79 account closure fee out of my account. Never do business with these people. First data merchant services is awful. Go elsewhere.
