Refusing to pay registered experts
I'm only going to share the details of my experience with fixya.com consulting services and not my opinion. Fixya keeps a daily record of how much money is earned by its experts located on the account activity page of each experts profile. At the experts desire, they may quickly see how much money is gained from one day to the next day. Before joining the fixya consulting team, I understood according to the expert agreement I could provide either free or charged fees advice. Fixya sent me documentation that I would not be paid till after 60 days of continued supp0rt. At this time, I have 110 days of support with the company and have not seen a single penny in my account. I send emails, mail correspondence, phone calls, and the company states that I never existed as providing support on their site. Needless to say, I kept daily print outs of each problem solved. I solved over 1500 paid and none paid questions. Fixya charged each customer an average of 5 dollars per question so that means they charged 1500x5 = $7, 500 to paying customers and never sent me a dime for my work. I have proof of the work I did as I already know they actively delete expert accounts and simply state they never worked for fixya. I have teamed up with 10 other experts who have experienced the same issue with the company for a combined lawsuit. Should you wish to join, simply google this message on the web.
Thanks Fixya, your honesty is very much appreciated!

invasion of privacy
I am reporting this “service” as being potentially destructive. I have a number of warnings from Norton AntiVirus that the IP address of 192.168.0.50which was traced back to FixYa.com has been making attempts to hack into my computer without my authorization ever since I worked with one of their ‘Experts” on 11/30/2010. I made the horrible mistake of allowing their "Expert" to have access to my computer. After enduring a sales pitch for a $300.00 annual service I informed FixYa that I only paid $350.00 for the brand new laptop and saw no sense in spending nearly the same amount for their technical support. The "Expert" then tried to sell me on a $30.00 package, at which time I disconnected the Internet hookup and restarted my computer. Within three days I was warned by Norton AntiVirus that "Norton has stopped an attempt to access your computer, " with one of the risk factors being "high." I traced the IP address given back to FixYa.com. Their "service Experts" have access to a person's computer even after a person disconnects the line, and they make full use of it.
I intend to file formal complaints against this "service” for these illegal and unauthorized attempts to hack into my personal information. I intend to warn people through blogs and possibly even my media contacts about how I sought their help and their company has made repeated attempts to attack my system. All of this information is documented in my Norton Antivirus profile. They will be hearing from me again.

Rip Off Experts
I, too, thought I would have a chance to decide whether the answer to my Auto AC question was viable, and thus worthy of payment. I was charged without ever having access to a solution for the problem. Upon my first contact, they said that an "expert" (LOL) had responded within three minutes, though I never received an email telling me so. When I logged back into their website, no such answer existed for my question. They assured me that a refund was issued, because I wasn't "happy with the answer, " and that it was issued in "good faith." A month later, I still have not seen the refund credited to my account. Subsequent emails still allege that a refund was issued, and the most recent email requested that I "verify with my financial institution, to see that a refund was issued." Like most people, I don't have to wait for a monthly statement to see such a credit to my account. With instant access to it, I can see that I have never received a refund for the "Help" that they gave me. Still fighting this one!

Charges..
On Oct.27, , 2010 I called to them for assistance and the first thing they asked for was my credit card number. To which I complied. I did not get to talk to anyone and I was disconnected. The charge has been paid by my credit card. I have sent them some emails but they are undeliverable. I called their phone number and it says to send questions to www.support.fixya.com . But I am getting a notice that the mail is undeliverable. I do not mind paying if I am given a service. But this people did not provide anything. I did not even get to say a word to anybody.

scam and expertise
With all the complaints I have researched over the past few days, I feel the need to elaborate on a few things. Any website of this kind will have people claiming qualifications, after all Brad Paisley wrote a song about it. In defense of TRUE experts on the site, a degree or formal training is no comparison to years of hands on experience and knowledge (i.e., the first person the DOD documented with an unmeasurable IQ dropped out of college). I myself have worked on all makes of automobiles for 35 yrs, never in a shop and as a hobby and have been the top Guru on the site for several days in a row until I visited a scam site about Fixya while logged into fixya and my account was no longer accessible. If you carefully read their terms and conditions, let me translate into my layman's terms for you: they have the ability to legally take advantage of anyone joining their site, PERIOD! They have stipulations that make almost anything violate their conditions (EVEN LOGGING IN FROM ANOTHER LOCATION/COMPUTER OR SHARING A PERSONAL STORY CONCERNING YOUR QUESTION/ANSWER). The experts will always be burned for money without exception, the client's perception of being scammed will vary by who answered their inquiry and most of all by the way they asked the question/described problem and their knowledge and ability to comunicate/comprend the answer. My best advice is to BOYCOTT FIXYA! Allow me to sum it all up in this:
You are paying FIXYA to allow someone to attempt to help you or you to help another.
THAT IS ALL THEY ARE!!! I CAN THINK OF A MUCH BETTER SPELLING...

unable to fix pc and unauthorised deduction from bank a/c
I browsed the internet looking for a solution to have my Vista laptop communicate with Canon projector. Fixya offered free advice or a small ongoing fee until the problem was fixed. I inquired further and was then offered an option of a one off fee which I paid. One expert could not fix the problem, another expert told me that Vista did not talk to projectors and was not fixable, a third expert did not want to get involved because other experts were handling the problem. I did not ask for a refund of the first amount because it was fairly minor - but I have now just received another charge on my bank account which was unauthorised. I am about to ask for a refund on that but not sure whether to hold out any hope of recovering the money in view of the comments I see on this site in relation to this provider.
