Scam not associated with Google
This is an account of my and my husband's experience with the group called “Focus” (choosefocusnow.com). My husband was looking for a way to make money by blogging. He came across Google AdSense and sent them a form with some personal information on it. Soon after “Patrick” from “Success Team” (801-542-8589) called our home phone to supposedly follow up on his inquiry. When my husband indicated he was interested in blogging with AdSense, Patrick told him that yeah, he could make a little money doing that, but what he REALLY needed to do was this other thing, which they never fully explained, but it somehow involved having a website and being an advertising middleman. Patrick represented his company as being associated with Google and referred my husband to onlinebusinessbureau.com (NOT associated with the Better Business Bureau) where his company was rated positively. All you have to do to be rated positively on this site is pay them money. He was told that he would need to make an initial investment of $800, which was to be financed on a credit card, and he would easily make that figure back in the first month and then some. After talking with Patrick a number of times (who was, in fact, a very nice individual), he put my husband through to his boss. This guy was a dickhead. He became agitated with us because we did not have 3-way calling or a speakerphone – he wanted to talk to both of us at the same time because he knew I had some reservations. He suggested that this business opportunity might not be right for my husband because OBVIOUSLY his own wife did not trust him. I trust my husband, but not this guy! Soon the initial investment of $800 became $4000, and he very aggressively told us to transfer money from our savings account to our checking account while he was on the phone. When I refused, he became even more agitated and tried to play hardball with us (i.e. “WELL, I can see that YOU'RE not ready to be successful”). He also kept asking about how many credit cards we had, what was our balance on them, what was the credit limit, etc. We said we would talk to him later and hung up the phone. I immediately went to do some research, and found out this company is a total scam, and not affiliated with Google at all. I think they CG'ed our info from the AdSense website and pretended to be a subsidiary of Google. Do NOT do business with these people, period.
