Very unprofessional attitude
On 7/10/06, I called my eye doctor (ANASTATSIOS FOKAS, O.D. at 23-18 31ST STREET in Astoria,Queen, NY (718) 278-3600) to get my prescription information. I am traveling in another state, and my contact had ripped. When I went to purchase new contacts, I was asked for my prescription. When I called for it at Fokas office, they never returned my phone call. They kept telling me the doctor was busy. Then I emailed them the next day, and I still had no response, then finally on 7/12/06 I called again and they REFUSED to give me my prescription information. They said that I had to come in to get the information, and I told them it was impossible because I am traveling in another state. Then the receptionist with a very unprofessional attitude, said I owed them money since 11/2005, so they are going to withhold this information until I can come in. Again I reminded her it was impossible, I was in another state for 2 months, and my contact ripped and I cant see without them... then she said it was my problem.I asked her how is it possible for me to owe money when I have insurance, she said that the insurance does not cover a contact lense fitting...I was never informed of this, otherwise I wold have never tried it on. This doctor, made me try on other contacts. I told him I was happy with what I have, and because he does not carry the brand I wear, he made me try on the ones he carries, when I had told him, I will not be purchasing contacts from him because the price was too high, he said "Try it on anyway, see how it fits"HE never told me about extra charges, I feel he should warn his patients of this before coaxing them into something like this.I feel I was taken advantage of. This is unethical practices, refusing me my prescription which was already paid for by my insurance and refusing me my own records.
