My husband and I had been looking around for a home, and had consitered purchasing a forclosed home or a HUD home since that would save us a consiterable amount of money. We stumbled upon forclosureagency.com and signed up for a 7 day trial for 1.95. That was supossed to be a charge for the shipping and handling of a welcome package.
3 days into using the site we found that more than half of the listings were outdated by MONTHS or completely inaccurate. I called to cancel on the 3rd day of our 7 day trial. I was told by the representative that everything was to be cancelled and I would be charged no further and the site would be available to us until January 7th (the 7th day of our orginal 7 day trial).
I did not go back to the site and was shocked when I recieved in the mail a welcome package for foreclosure agency AND two of their sister companies 2 days later. One for car repos and another for realtor assistance. I had never been told about these and evidently I was charged 1.95 for 7 day trials for each of those as well. I called the company back promtly (as I was still in the 7 day trial for those as well) and cancelled those services as well so I wouldn't be charged for anything further. The representative I spoke to that time assured me that those 2 services were cancelled and I would be charged no further.
The next day I saw that my account had been charged with $19.90 from that company. 1.95x3=NOT 19.90! I called them AGAIN for the 3rd time in 4 days and I was told that the 1.95 was for the trial and there was a $4.65 shipping and handling fee for each of the welcome packages (which by the way were one piece of cardstock, 8x11). They refused to drop the charges since I had gotten the 'welcome packages' and the 7 day trials.
Just when I was starting to calm down over my insane ordeal with them I saw that my account had been charged 3 seperate charges of $39.95. I was furious and called them right away and was told that neither of the first two represtitives I spoke with cancelled my service but instead EXTENDED IT for a full year at standard rate of $39.95 a month. I kept getting transfered to a voicemail system whenever I asked for a manager for a refund and never got a call back.
I finally contacted my bank to dispute the charges as well as my lawyer. They at first claimed that they were right in charging me what they did but when my lawyer got a warrant for the recordings of all of my calls then dropped their stupid act and agreed to pay my lawyer fees and refund my account the $120. Once my lawyer got involved we found that this company averages 300 lawsuits against them in a month. Almost all of them are settled outside of court.
I was told 2-3 business days and I would get my money back. And I am now on the 8th. I've spoken to them 2 times since they agreed to refund the money and both times they denied it ever happening.
My lawyer and I are taking them to court for felony theft and failure to follow federal call center sales policy. Once my lawyer and I
So to save yourself a headache don't even bother.
