This company "Fortran Direct Bury Inc." is a contractor in Punta Gorda, Fl. who does business for Embarq Telephone Company which is the areas local land line phone company. I worked for Fortran last year for a couple of months as a sub-contractor, in which i buried and activated phone lines for them, which on completion of the work orders, they in turn bill Embarq and are supposed to pay their employees the wages they earned. Herein lies the problem, I worked for over 6 weeks using my own vehicle, fuel, tools and labor burying and activating over 200 phone lines at seperate addresses for Embarq's customers. When it came time to collect my first pay check after the 30 DAYS of working in the field and the holding back period on which i initially agreed to in the contract i signed with them, they said they did QC inspections on all of my jobs and said they all failed inspection except for (3) jobs!! yes (3) jobs!! and refused to pay me for my wages of the other jobs. They have billed the company for ALL of those jobs and have received payment for ALL of them but refuse to pay their employees. Upon my leaving that company, i have found out that many of the former employees all have similar complaints of Fortran not paying their wages also...they also have been fighting and appealing your un-employment that your entitled to as a tax-paying American also. You would do good to stay far away from this company unless you like working for free!!!
