I was very disappointed with my experience at Fox Rental
I was very disappointed with my experience at Fox Rental. I arrived in San Francisco to discover that they had overbooked the economy cars and that all they had available was a mini-van. So, I took the mini-van temporarily and was told to come back when they got more cars in to switch out the car.
It is extremely hard to park a mini-van in San Francisco! The next day I went back to exchange the car. There was a 2-3 hour line to get through just to talk with an agent. Also, the previous day the agent gave me a card with contact numbers to call for assistance. This was a dead end number that nobody ever picked up on. So I had to leave messages.
On another number I found they kept putting me on hold and not picking back up. Once I finally did get my new car (hours later taking up much vacation time, and still not getting an economy car) we were on our way down to Big Sur. This car (a PT cruiser) was much better, but it turned out that the air bag light/chime would go off repeatedly throughout the next couple of days.
I cannot tell you the stress of being in a strange car and having to worry the airbags might go off at any time while you are driving along a cliff near the ocean. Having to listen to the very loud chime noise over and over and over really sucked as well. Additionally, the power plug in the car provided did not work so we were not able to listen to any music in Big Sur. Overall it took quite a lot away from our supposed relaxing vacation. Frankly, I would like a full refund, but I have heard nothing back in response to my complaint.

Labeled us as undesirable customer
Ordered SUV online and it went through just fine. Get to counter in LA and we are told that both my husband & I are labeled "undesirable customers" & they cannot rent to us. No explanation & told that department is closed on Saturdays so you will have to rent from somewhere else. Asked if maybe we had an outstanding issue regarding an accident from previous rentals that was years before! We told her no. As far as we knew we were in good standing with Fox. We always returned the cars in the same condition as when rented, never heard from anyone afterwards regarding any issues either. Had to go to Thrifty and pay 60+ more to rent a small car vs. an SUV. Called on Monday and was put into a voicemail where you leave a message & they tell you they will contact you within 48 hours. NO CALL. Sent emails...no response...these people don't give a CRAP about their customers. This was FOX's mistake and I'm sure they figured that out and don't want to admit it because I intend to demand to be reimbursed for the money we are out. Don't ever rent from these guys!! They are the worst. Plus when you do rent you have to wait FOREVER for the shuttle as they only have one compared to all the other rental companies. And then you usually are stuck waiting in REALLY long and slow lines. Not worth any amount of money you think you will save. They are the WORST!! Run do not walk to the next car rental company. You will be glad that you did.

Fraud
I rented an SUV from Fox Rent a Car for a week followed by a sedan for five days. When I returned the SUV, I was told the reservation for the sedan starts the next day. I agreed to pay for one more day but the price that was quoted was $163 for first day (which they claimed was my mistake) and $135 for next 4 days combined. Why would I book a car, return it in one week and pick up a replacemrent car the next day? Then they refused to let me use up the time I had paid for with the SUV by saying he had already closed the contract. They they refused to let me see a phone book so I could make other arrangements with another company. Then they refused to send us back to airport and we had to wait half hour to see two shuttles come and go. Then we walked a lot to find a taxi (with a huge and heavy box in my arms).
This is a FRAUDULENT company. Stay away.

Don't do business with them
I have never been as disappointed, harassed, yelled at, terribly offended, threatened with very offensive words as I have been by the staff from FOX rental at their San Jose location, in particular a group of men with the names of Andres, Michael and Daniel. These men are very rude, unprofessional and in extreme cynical when it comes to attend a costumer with a complaint. In my case this is the fourth time I deal with them when they haven’t honored any of the rates I have brought along with me, these printed rates that I have presented, usually take a lot of trouble in finding in the internet, sometimes by searching for days at the time, they don’t care if you carry a print out which states very clearly, the rates shown there are final and non changeable, they completely ignore all of this and simply charge you anything they want arguing whatever excuse, from extra drop off fares to mysterious taxes.
Their webpage also advertises low prices and when it comes to make a reservation for the days they promote, they come up with an entire different and much higher rate. I once tried to call them to find out the reason they quoted this advertising differently, and they told me their rates change by the day, but in my opinion, they just don’t want to help out and have the best excuse to ignore any complaint. I never got a satisfactory answer or solution from them. I consider this a complete and horrible scam.
I would never rent back from them, it is not worth the money you save, I much rather pay more and receive a good service from another company. It is a shame that after so many complaints I made, and even some of the complaints I read in these sites, they cover up for themselves; their supervisor protects their behavior, and they do absolutely nothing about it. They continue allowing these same men work there piling up a number of complaints after sending you a lame message back making you feel like you deserved to be priced and treated that way. Their service is extremely deplorable, despicable, unethical and outrageous. I would strongly suggest for any costumer to NEVER do business with FOX.

Worst Customer Service
I rented a car at a weekly rate, however, I was debating if I should return it early, since I can take the hotel shuttle to the airport in the morning and just return the car the evening before at 10pm and not pay an extra day. I was told that if I return the car 1 day early, I would get a partial refund from the weekly rate, which is what is listed on the contract. When I returned the car 1 day early, as mentioned above, the customer service agent says that he’s not authorized to do a refund and the manager is no longer on duty and gave me the manager’s extension. When I called back the next morning, the manager did not pick up. I called 5+ times and left 2 voice messages. I never got a return call. I called the central customer service number and they said that based on the return, my rates automatically increase by $10 per day because I returned the car early, which puts me at a rate HIGHER than the weekly rate. So, in essence, I never got a refund and might incur an additional charge for returning the car early. Their customer service is extremely poor – the worst I’ve ever had. The funny thing is that if you call them, and you’re placed on hold (occurs often), … they emphasized the importance of customer service… what a joke!
Also, beware…. They have a lot of non-standard charges that only FOX rentacar charges. They even say that they’re the only ones that charge them and they make you buy insurance for it. For example, if you get into an accident, not only do you have to pay for the damages to the car (or your insurance pays it), but, you also have to cover the time the car is in the shop for (or the time the car could have been rented). So, if the car takes 10 days to fix, then, you are billed for 10 days, as though you’re using it. Because, they expect all of their cars to be making money for them 24x7x365. They even say that NO insurance out there will pay this part.. so, you’re forced to buy this insurance or sign that you acknowledge it and will pay it. So, the saving that you get from FOX will be offset by these additional charges.

not trustworthy
We decided to give a try for Fox rent a car because of the cost...Yet, should haven known - you get what you pay for.
So we made a reservation online with a pick up time. We got there about two hours before the scheduled pick up time and were told that since we are ahead of schedule we would get a different vehicle for, of course, a higher price. We suggested that we cancel the original one and make a new reservation, but of course, they said that wouldn't work. So we got this jeep that is much bigger than we needed, which is bad on gas mileage.
We returned the car as scheduled, and they came look at the fuel and everything, and told us to go to the front desk to check out. A gentleman said that since their system is down, he can't provide a receipt but the charge will be the same as when we reserved the car.
A week later, we got a letter in mail saying that our car was short of gas when we returned it, and they charged our credit card for $40. Now we know it is impossible as we filled the car right on the airport boulevard which is less than a mile from them. As I called to dispute, the manager told me to fax him the gas receipt that we filled it. Not sure what would do as the receipt wouldn't tell if we filled the car or not?? I told him that I wouldn't do it as I just don't have the time.
I was reading the other comment about Fox trying to charge them for car damages three months after the rental...Their service is just not trustworthy. I wouldn't use them again.

Scam charge
I rented a car from May first to the 7th and from 8th to 12th respectively. I didn't know that I was not supposed to be charged for the concession fees for $16.00 for the first time until I had a second invoice. I was going to ask them before I took off from LAX International Airport for Michigan. But I was late for my flight. After I reached the destiny, I called the manager and told them about it. They said that they have to see my driver's license in person when they had known that I currently am not in California. They have the records for my rent. They knew that I would have been charged if I didn't have a California driver's license for the second time. But they refuse to correct the over charge.

Fox Rent A Car
My story is the same as others who have complained about Fox Rent A Car. Unless you take out their insurance, Fox will take advantage of you. Happened to me at LAX. I left their lot at night in a black car and didn't really inspect it, the guy at the exit gate did. By daylight I could see there were some minor scratches on it, but so what. I really didn't think twice, you see this stuff on many rental cars. With Fox, unless you personally inspect every tiny scratch on the car and mark it down, they will find something when you return it and try to charge you excessive repair costs. If they get your insurance to pay, they'll take the money and run, won't fix the scratches, and charge the next unsuspecting customer to pay for the same scratch all over again. Avoid this company at all costs. Their rates are so cheap because they make their money by scamming renters.

Horrible customber service
I rented a car at LAX and had the worst experience ever. Most concerning of all is that they mandate that you sign the damage form before inspecting the vehicle!!! You end up signing a blank form for them and they fill out any damages on the vehicle that they see fit, without your input!! Also, they still believe that they can force you to obtain the liability insurance even though they have been sued by the state of California for such practices!!! I'll never go back to FOX.
