Don't ever let this shop touch your car!!! My harmonic balancer needed replacing on my 2000 Corvette. In order to do this, the steering actuator and nearly half the front end assembly must be removed and reinstalled. Fred's tire, aka Pure Performance in Raeford claimed their mechanic had 4 corvettes of his own and was very familiar with corvettes. I dropped the car off just after noon on Saturday 2 weeks ago and was assured it would only take the 2.5 hrs to repair as the book calls for. I specifically informed the shop that I needed my car same day so I could go to work back in Washington DC the following Monday. The shop assured me it would be no problem at all and that they had all the tools to remove the old balancer and install the new one. During the course of the day, I would periodically have to call for updates, they would never bother to call me or attempt to update me during Saturday. Saturday night I drive from Fayetteville and saw the car still up on the stand torn apart with the guy sitting in the office on the phone with his feet up on the desk and was told it would not be done that night, as they had ran into a small "issue" with removing the balancer and that both he and his mechanic would come in and finish it. He asked me if Monday was ok. I restated again the fact that I needed the car for work Monday in DC, and he ultimately agreed that he and his mechanic both would come in and finish the car Sunday. After countless attempted calls on Sunday, having drove twice to the shop and finding it closed up, spending most of the day in the area waiting, I called the numbers I had and only got a fax tone. Finally, late Sunday evening, I was able to get a voicemail and left a message on the mechanics phone. He later returned my call and once I told him the story, he said he would make some calls and find out what was going on. It never happened. Nobody ever called me back! I had to borrow my moms car inconveniencing both her and my brother because my brother had to loan my mom his car. Finally, that Monday the shop called me with a huge excuse about a family emergency and said the car was ready. I had my brother pick up the car because I was working 5 hrs north in DC and wouldnt be back to NC until today. My brother is not familiar with the car but after having picked it up, he called me and asked me what the 'norm' was for the front end. I informed him I have never had any issues with it and that it was tight and responsive. He informed me it was loose and there was an inconsistent vibration, but he was driving it anyway. All I could do was wait until today, I had no choice. In addition, just the day before the harmonic balancer went out, I had the front end 4 wheel aligned and drove the car until the balancer went out, so I know the front end was perfect. Now, today, I am in NC and drove the car for the first time since the repair and the front end steering is literally more loose and unsafe than my moms crown vic x police car. Its worse than my '79 Firebird I had in high school. That is no exaggeration. I'm actually unable to drive the vehicle. It drifts into another lane on its own. In addition, the right front tire will vibrate the entire car after hitting a bump and sometimes does not stop until you reduce speed to under 30mph. My mother is witness to how the front end was perfect after the alignment since she rode in it when we left the alignment shop, and my brother and his wife are witness to how the front end is so unbelievably unsafe now. I will never let this guy touch a car of mine again, and I hope no-one else does either. I want nothing less than full reimbursement of the $264.36 I paid for ruining my car. This shops lack of knowledge could have cost my brother his life.
