We rented a cabin based on the companies web page through VRBO listing 121125. Contacted them through the link on that page as well. We received an email saying yes they 13 cabins all together all available and they attached photos as well a article in Texas Monthly about how beautifully decorated their cabins were etc.
Their web page said the rate for one night, two people was $95 but they instead charged us $125 plus tax a total of $140 for 2 people for 1 night, we just assumed it was because we asked for a cabin with a fireplace. They sent an email saying they were putting us in their River Terrace cabins as they had the better view and room to ride bikes. They sent a photo of the outside of the cabin, it had a rustic look.
We drove 3 hours, arrived and were given directions to our cabin. Turns out it was 50 feet off a busy highway with neighboring cabins on all sides within 10 feet, river access was impossible due to high cliffs. Once inside the cabin it was awful, peeled paint, broken appliances, lumpy beds with no linens, no TV/DVD, no pool, no hot tub, no fireplace.
We quickly asked to be moved to a better cabin just to be told they were all rented. We asked for a refund, and at first we were treated as though they felt bad that we felt deceived, but then the wife had the husband call me and he was a total jerk, he even threatened to take me to the DA if I tried to stop payment on my check, even though I had not mentioned doing any such thing. The next morning they even hand walked my check into a branch of my bank to cash it at a teller window before I did try to stop payment.
