On this past Monday, May 25, 2009 Memorial Day. I went to a Family Dollar store to purchase some things. I bought some frito lay chips for me and my children. Before I could drive off heading back toward home, I opened a bag of the Funyons I had purchased. It was one of those small .33 bags. There was something inside the bag that looked almost like feces ! Yes, I mean feces ! The only thing was that, it did not have the smell. I am not for sure what it is but I know it is not those yellow round ringed funyons I am used to eating. I jumped out the car, ran in the store and showed it to the sales clerk. She asked me if I wanted another one. I said, "no". I asked her what did it look like inside the bag. She said she didn't know. The customer she was waiting on said to me, " always check the dates on the product" I told him that this does not expire to July 14, 2009. Then I asked him to look in the bag. He was surprised. I asked if I should go to the news. Then I said to the clerk that I am going to the police since they were just up the road. I was so surprised by all of this. I went to the police and told them everything. They actually thought I was crazy for coming to them although they did not say it. I could tell the way they were looking at me. So the one cop asked me to give a statement and I did. Then he took the bag in the back and had his supervisor review it. It was so strange. The supervisor did not know either what it was ??? I asked the cop what would he have done. He said probably just throw away the bag. My thing is this : There are so many young children running back and forth to the stores and the gas stations purchasing these kinds of chips everyday and what if they got this bag and began to eat it. I am even nervous about purchasing those bags. I think it has had an affect on me. I took the bag home and put it in the refrigerator where it is now. I am gonna send it to someone. My 9 year old son told me to contact the health department. My question is : Does anyone even care ? Sadly, I do not think many people care ; especially if it will have an affect on their income or their businesses. I am honestly not trying to make waves, give anyone a bad name or even speak bad about the company. People make mistakes. I actually typed in the search engine to get the Frito Lay co. address so I could file a complaint with them but before I found the address, I saw this page about complaints against them. Also, I saw someplace where a person had a bag of steel in their frito lay chips and even another person found an ear plug in their doritos !!! I am so concerned that we need to work closely together to eliminate these kinds of mistakes. How can we prevent these things from happening again. I am a school teacher and I often do fund raisers for my students. We purchase cases and boxes of frito lay chips and cheetos and other snacks but if these kinds of things happen, I am not going to continue buy the products for my students. My concern is their safety and their health.
