FREE home security system scam
A clean cut young man came through my front gate unannounced and uninvited and made his way to my front door at which point the dog went nuts. He mentioned his name and said he was in the area talking to people about installing a FREE home security system. He went on to explain that his company was partnering with GE (he mentioned General Electric) and the system was actually monitored by OnStar. HE said that he wasn't part of the sales team but the system normally costs $1500. Really??? He said that he would put a sign in the front yard, stickers on my windows and all of this would be for free and what the company would get out of all of this would be "advertising" but yet he could not produce a business card and once I asked for one he quickly left.
Neighbors on Oahu (Mililani) beware and watch out for each other.

Satisfied with my system
I would like to share my story.

I was approached one afternoon by a representative for FTR Security with GE. He explained what he was doing in the neighborhood and invited me to participate. He explained what he would do for my home and how it would protect the family. Obviously this was something I had wanted for a long time. (there have been a few break-ins in my area and I'll admit I've had a few sleepless nights.) I really liked what he was offering and knew it would help me feel better at night and help my husband feel more at ease while he travels.

I got online to verify the information about the company. I went to www.FTRSecurity.com and to www.GESecurity.com and learned more about the companies. The representative also had a certificate of good standing from the state of Hawaii that I was able to verify online. At that point I decided to move ahead with the system.

The installation was very professional. It took about two hours and the technician was very patient when explaining to me how to use it. He also left me with a manual and DVDs. I have been very content with my new system.

What bothered me were all the negative comments that I found online while I was learning more about FTR, so I decided that I needed to speak out and share my good experience. Most of the complaining seems to come from those who don't understand how a contract works. Makes me wonder if they have ever had a mortgage or even a cell phone. A security system for your home is an investment and it's not something that you can just wake up one day and walk away from. Unfortunately some people think that's how it works and when they can't they go online to complain to the world.

False Advertising and marketing
I cant believe this is how business is done. A representative from FTR Security, Mr.Evan Fast came to my house (where he was not supposed to solicit) and said this security company wanted me to sign up for free since they had an advertising promotion. My fault- I got suckered in and badly. I was at that time thinking of a job change and made sure I asked the representative multiple times if I was bound to the agreement if I moved. He replied to all of them, "No" especially if I moved to an apartment which didnt allow these services.
Three months later I moved. Turns out I need to continue making payments for the next 57 months. The company refuses to budge- speaking of which- good luck finding someone to talk to with this company. They operate from some corner of Utah - dont have customer reps taking phone calls and neither do they respond to calls.
Simply put, stay away from FTR Security. They are a huge scam operation.

Slow Installation
FTR Security installed a GE security system in my home last year. The salesman was extremely professional and we were very pleased with him. We overall have had a wonderful experience with the company. My only complaint is that the installation took far too long. It took 2 hours to install a wireless security system. I am not sure why it took longer than I thought it would; new technician, difficult to install, problem with my walls. I don't know but I thought it would be a quicker process. Great company, I just wish I could have gone to bed sooner. :)

Faulty Sales Practices
Their salesmen will lie directly to your face about the length of the contract. They will tell you there is no contract and that you can cancel at any time. When you do try and cancel, there is a contract and it is for 60 Months. If you want out of it, they will let you, but you have to pay 80% of the remaining balance. If you try and talk to them, they just keep quoting policy and will not listen to a thing you try and say. They will just continue to quote policy. The salesman who came claimed we did not have any obligation, and that it could be cancelled at anytime without any cancellation charge. What a crock!!! Honestly, you do not want to do business with them, talk about totally being dishonest. Keep away from them, if you want security systems, use someone else.
