Seems like people are not listening so I am gonna keep this warning short and to the point. DO NOT DONATE TO ANYONE WHO CALLS YOU. Yes you can pick up your phone and call and donate and please do but don't donate to anyone who calls you. Some of these scams are even legal but your donation to the actual charity becomes so small after all the overhead is taken out. This includes anyone claming they are NON PROFIT, that statement is a play on words and you don't have to be the sucker. They aren't troopers, cops fire dept or police. They are paid solicitors and your donation pays their salary with as little as 6% going to the charity. The Do Not Call list will not protect you from any of this trsut me. Once they identify themselves demand your number to be removed from all their list. Be stern. Threaten them with the ATTORNEY GENERAL. I must add though that it is the AG who approves what they say to you and yes its legal. So just don't donate on your phone and keep your number out of the phone book.
