Ga. Dept of Labor Reviews

Karen Wright May 26, 2010
Non Enforcement of Wage Laws
I reported, Dec. 2009, the failure of my employer to pay overtime that I was due to the Ga. Dept of Labor. The overtime was worked Feb. through May 2009. The representative from Ga. Dept of Labor spoke with me and told me she had tried several times to speak to my former employers. They would not speak with her or return her calls. I was told by the representative that I should fax to her times sheets for that period. We had no time clock. I did so. I then called her several more times. She told me that nobody would respond to her on the matter. I also gave her the employers mailing address. That if and when she heard anything she would be in touch with me. That has been a couple of months ago now. I have heard nothing more. So, what happens if employers don't wish to pay overtime that they request you work? Does the Ga. Dept. of Labor simply tell them to have a great day and move on? Is that the representation I can expect from my tax dollars. It seems like a slap in the face and also lets employers know they will not be held accountable.
