Not consumer friendly
Approximately between April 30 and May 1st I purchased 4 small trees (Gala Apple, Gingko, Naval Orange and Pecan) from Garrison Foothill Nursery. I also purchased food and fertilizer and paid the nursery to come to my home to plant the trees. On May 6th and 7th the nursery (John) came out to my home and planted the trees. After approximately 10 days I noticed that the leaves on the Gala tree were starting to brown and drop off. I made numerous phone attempts to reach the nursery and left messages and no return call. A week later I went to the nursery (with leaf samples from the Gala) and spoke to the salesperson who sold me the trees, I showed her the leaf samples, she felt that it seemed like the leaves showed burn, she stated that she would have John call me regarding what I should do. A few days later he called and provided instructions on more watering and how to water the trees. I followed his instructions to the letter. Approximately two weeks later I noticed that the Gala was not getting any better. I kept an eye on this tree and in the meantime I had a couple of tree trimming companies (Alpine and Lopez) come to home to give me estimates on the trimming of my existing trees. I happened to show them the Gala and asked what (in their opinion) could be wrong with the tree. They both stated that in their opinion all 4 trees were planted too deep and they were all in trouble, especially so the Gala. I kept an eye on the trees and continued with Johns instructions. I waited a couple of more weeks and noticed that now the fruit itself was drying up and falling off the tree. I then called the nursery and left a message describing what was happening with the Gala and what I had been told by the tree trimming companies, I also asked what could be done or if the tree needed to be replaced by them, I invited them to come to my home to see the tree if necessary. On July 7th I received a very angry voice mail message from John with the nursery, the gentleman was hollering into the phone that I would get my FREE apple tree and it would be planted for FREE, he repeatedly kept yelling the word FREE, he also demanded to know the names of the tree trimming companies. After my wife and I listened to the message we got the distinct impression that the gentleman felt that we were trying to scam him for an apple tree. I called the nursery back the next day and got their voice mail, I left them a voice mail once again extending an invitation to come out to my home to look at the tree and that nobody was trying scam them, I was just explaining what was happening with the tree, what had been told to me by the tree trimming companies (and provided there names) and asking what could be done, we just wanted a healthy tree. I have heard nothing more from the nursery since 07/07/09. In the meantime our Ginkgo has suffered the same fate as our Gala; all the leaves browned and fell off. After further discussion with my wife and listening to Johnsâ voice mail message we have decided we want no further association or contact with this nursery and we just want to be refunded (cashier check) the cost of the Gala and Ginkgo and the planting charge, a total of $298.00.
