Account closed but still taking payments
I paid my GE Money Bank account off and I noticed there was still withdrawing payments for town months until I noticed. I called there customer service number and they said they would send me a check for the "credit" balance. I also CLOSED the account! The next month the withdraw still happened again! So again I had to call there customer service number and be hold for a long time to get my money back. No apology or nothing. The customer service Rep. also told me that the payments were setup by my bank. I called my bank and they said there was NO transactions set. Taking my money while NOT authorized and lying, what a company. I will not even by GE light bulbs anymore. I asked for an extra $40 for the trouble not once but twice and They would not do that for me.

Fraud Activity
This is the most horrible financial group I have ever delt with I will make sure I never do buisness with these crooks ever again. I have a 0% interest loan with havertys who used CITI Bank when GE Money bought out Citi Banks Loans, GE Money purposly and Fraudulently created a condition that apears that I was plus 30 days becouse I had auto pay to citi bank, when I refused to pay late fees on payments that went to Citi Bank on time with my auto pay GE Money started hammering my credit. To this day they are still hitting my credit negatively as 30 days late and what makes this pathetic is when I call the automated system it tells me my next payment is not due untill 2 weeks from now. Does any one know how to report this Fraudulet activity to the apropriate people like FDIC or Federal Trade Commision? They have caused a drop in my credit by 46 points. GE Money Bank credit reporting department had a " Go *** in Your Hand Attitude" after my 3rd call so as I see it the only way to get thier attention is thru reporting this or Class Action Law Suit

GE money bank should be investigated, held accountable or shut down
I have used PayPal Buyer Credit for about three years always paying more than the minimums. Earlier this month after have suffered enough fustration with the inability of get the balanced lowered and recieving a letter from GE Money bank informing the that the rates were going up, I called them to have the buyer credit protection removed. I figured I could save myself $9 per month and apply it to the balance. After all I figured I would be saving myself about $108 a year. I got to admit they put up a fight giving the sales pitch to keep it and I had to repeatedly tell them I was not interested. I got email notification yesterday to tell me my May statement was ready to view online. When I opened it I see that not only the interest rate had gone up but my credit limit was also reduced to $600. I was truly ticked because I have an ebay bid on an item within what my available balance was day before yesterday. Now there is not enough to cover the bid should I win. This financial institution is no better than a bottom feeder. They routinely delay crediting payments to tack on late fees, charge outlandish interest rates, adjust them at will, and creatively add on fees to keep you sucked in and in debt. They seem to be connected to what you would think are good retailers, Belk, Old Navy, Carvin Music, etc. DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH CREDIT OFFERED FROM GE MONEY BANK. THEY ARE CROOKS AND WILL SCAM YOU. YOU WILL NEVER PAY THEM OFF MAKING MONTHLY PAYMENTS! If anyone knows of a consumer advocacy organization within the federal government involved in regulating unfair banking practices I would love to know where to find them. GE MONEY BANK should be investigated, held accountable or shut down.

late fees
I paid off in full a balance from a medical credit card of several hundred dollars. I then recieved a bill from the company that I owed them $1.00 which I sent them a check for. I then recieved a bill for late fee's a few months later. I called the number on the bill and the service agent told me it would be taken care of. Several years later I recieved a letter from a collection agency stateing I owed several hundred dollars in late fee's. It is now a charge off.

Account holder verification - Must Read!!
I would like to share this letter my father wrote to GE Money Bank in regards he was having with his department store credit card. Honestly, one of the funniest things I have ever read. Please do not deal with GE Money Bank. I also ran into my own issues with them as they closed my credit line after I missed a payment of $12.60. Well, the reason I missed it was because they tacked on this "interest charge" 14 days AFTER I paid my balance in full. Oh well, I closed the account...Anyways, on to my Pop's letter...absolutely priceless.

RE: Account xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-4806

To Whom It May Concern:

Good day, my dear friends at GE Money Bank. I hope this letter finds you all in good health and merry spirits, as is the case with me.

I’m writing to you again in an attempt to address a problem that just won’t seem to go away. I wrote you on 11-9-10 about this problem, but your response, which I recently received, suggests to me that you are having difficulty understanding the nature of my problem. So I am making another attempt to spell it out for you as clearly as I can.

I have taken the time to numerically list the sequence of events associated with my problem. Example: 1-2-3-4 and so on. It’s really quite simple to follow once you get the hang of it. So, let’s move on and see where this takes us, shall we.

1) I wanted to set up a Fleet Farm charge account for the non-profit business I work for. I received an application to fill out and did so. The application, which you have in your possession, which you have in your possession, WHICH YOU HAVE IN YOUR POSSESSION, required that I signed off as the guarantor (or secondary card holder) for the account. I did, and if you look closely you’ll clearly see that I both printed and signed my name as Jim A Colwin. The reason I did this is because that is my name. Jim A Colwin has always been my name.
2) Sometime after sending in the application, I received a charge card with the name Jim A Calhoun on it. I thought I received it by mistake, so I cut it up and threw it in the wastebasket.
3) When the business account billing information started to arrive, and I noticed the name Jim A Calhoun associated with the account, it became clear to me that someone from GE Money Bank made a mistake and typed Jim A Calhoun rather than Jim A Colwin into whatever data bank you use to store customer account information. Let me repeat. Someone from GE Money Bank made a mistake.
4) I called your customer service department to get this simple problem straightened out. That in itself was a problem because I couldn’t understand the person I was speaking with. I have difficulty hearing, especially when the party I’m speaking with has an accent that I surmised was coming from India or Pakistan or some other place in that geographical region. Anyway, after about 10 minutes or so of conversing back and forth and forth and back, it became clear to me that he understood the nature of the problem, and so I asked him to fix it. He informed me that he would require a faxed document from me in order to do so. My patience was being ever so lightly tested and I hung up the phone. (Actually, I said a few pretty naughty things to him and then I hung up the phone).
5) After assuring the entire staff that I was going to be okay (they came from all corners of the house, indicating they probably heard some noises coming from my office) I went outside to meditate on this dilemma. After 30 minutes or so I summoned the courage to try once again to resolve the problem by calling customer service a second time. (Are you still with me?)
6) This time I got a young lady on the phone, and while the accent was the same, the voice was a tad high pitched, (imagine a field mouse birthing an elephant) making the thought of grinding my way through this whole thing once again – unbearable. So I made a bold decision and told her the time has arrived to put someone on the phone who could speak English.
7) Next up was a young lady who spoke crystal clear English. I felt so good about that (in and of itself) that I almost hung up while I was ahead, but chose to move forward. This young lady quickly understood why I was calling, yet insisted that nothing short of a letter from me would clear up the matter. I shared a few meaningful thoughts and hung up on her also - but not before getting her to provide me with the address that I was to send my letter to.
8) I wrote the letter, dated 11-9-10. Looky, I have included a copy of it. I don’t know what you think, but to my way of thinking, the letter I wrote is quite clear.
9) Today, I received your response to my letter and have included a copy of that as well.

Your written response is demanding that I provide you with court approved proof that confirms my name change. That may be a stumbling block because I never changed my name. You folks, GE Money Bank, in your infinite wisdom decided to change my name. You unilaterally (that means you did it by yourself and without my authorization) changed it from Jim A Colwin to Jim A Calhoun. That was a minor irritation – kinda like being served hard butter in a restaurant. However, your unwillingness to fix what you fucked up in the first place is flat out pissing me off.

Now, up until this point, this problem has been a closely guarded secret between you and me. Shortly, however, if you don’t get this thing resolved, I will be forced to post this on the internet in an effort to obtain solution based feedback from a rather large audience.

I will end this as I began it, my dear friends, with a heartfelt “good day”.

Warmer than Warmest Possible Regards,

Jim A Colwin or Jim A Calhoun or Whoever (I’m not even sure myself anymore).

PS: Little question… If the primary card holder defaults, who are you going to put the squeeze on as the secondary card holder?

Rip-off practices
GE Money Bank ripped us off by charging extra fees even though we paid off our account early. When we made large early payments, they didn't treat them as monthly payments and charged us late fees even though we were paid in advance with them. Their customer service people were completely incapable of even understanding what they did wrong and had no discretion to change anything. These people are simply dishonest rip-off artists. Avoid them at all costs.

late fee scam
I have been making payments like clock work. The first payment was 43 ( I payed immediately) then I start making payments ever 2 weeks of 22 dollars). I am in the military and travel often. So, I set auto payments through my bank. I made sure I was paying over the minimum. This last bill was very high so i started doing my research. Turns out they have been tacking on late fees. Also, my contact information isn't accurate even though I updated it twice. When I called, the rep. I talked to said my late fee's were due to me not making minimum payment which of course has been rising because of other late fee's for not making minimum payments. Well, both my bank and there website clearly show that I payed every 2weeks and many times I made over payments. So, after scratching my head it dawns on me that they charged me a late fee for the very first month. they completely disregarded the 43 dollar payment from 2 weeks earlier. when i asked the rep to check that first bill he said he didn't have access to that info. WHAT!? He can tell me I had a late fee and he confirmed i did indeed pay 65 dollars for the month but he couldn't tell me why i had a late fee even though i payed 22 dollars over minimum? He told me I had to fill out a dispute form. It will take seven to ten day to arrive. before I can send that in I need to mail a letter requesting my statements from those first months so I can prove my case. Are you kidding me? Why on earth would I not be able to simply request it through customer service or even better why cant they pull it up and see the information. I'll tell you why. It's because they are up to no good and they realize most customers don't have the time to deal with this and just take it and pay the stupid fee's.

Misrepresent rates
GE Money Bank, a division of GE, receives Bail out funds and pays Zero Taxes in 2010 but will charge you 29.99% on your principal. To some families that could be devastating. Just by asking their reps they feel they are totally justified. What kind of person does that take?
I paid in $100 per month on their recommendation for over 20 months only to discover only $360 was applied to principal.

They can be reached at 866-893-7864 if you wish you voice your displeasure

Refusal to Process Check
On January 7, 2011 I mailed GEMB two checks. One was a personal check in the amount of $73.96 to pay off a deferred interest account that expired in December. The other was a convenience check from Fifth Third Bank in the payoff amount of $1197.25 for the October 2010 deferred interest promotion due to expire in April. When I received my February statement, I noted that the bill for the larger amount was still outstanding. In the Transaction summary portion of my bill, the amount of $1197.25 was debited and listed as a “corrected payment.” I called the company and was told that there must have been something wrong with the check. I called Fifth Third and they assured me the check should have gone through and it had not been returned to them. I called GEMD again and I was told they would look into it and get back to me. I never heard from anyone again and the amount was still outstanding on my next bill. When I called this time I was told several things – the check never came; maybe there was something wrong with it; even that the check had been destroyed! They ran a search on the check after I gave them the routing number – still nothing. Finally, someone got back to me saying the check had been found. Now we’re at the month of March. The convenience check I originally sent from Fifth Third was for a special no-interest balance transfer for 18 months promotion that expired in mid-January. Not only could I now not take advantage of that promotion but I could not write another check on that account because the required funds were no longer there. That amount would take me beyond my credit limit. I called GEMB back to see what they would be willing to do since the whole situation had been due to a colossal error on their part. The best concession theywere willing to offer was no late charges and to extend the deferred interest for another six months. The way this situation was handled was reprehensible and their solution is unacceptable. To add insult to injury, on March 14 I received a copy of the original check in the mail from them!
