GE Money Bank Reviews

Ripped off
I became late on my payments while on a deployment to Iraq. I got home, and wanted to start paying off my debts. I was contacted by GEMB and was offered a settlement offer. I set up three (3) payments with them, one payment for the next three months...after which, the account was to be considered paid in full. They decided to renege on that deal AFTER I MADE MY 3 PAYMENTS. and told me it was only valid for 25 days...and I now owe the full amount

I have letters from them stating the settlement offer and the three dates...and I also have FREE attorney service... by the way, the NAVY/MARINE CORPSE have the best lawyers around. I have paperwork, from them, that says I am right...they don't know yet, but they messed with the wrong guy, I am not a sheep. I am a vindictive jerk...and I will not be ripped off.

It's time all of us stand up against these companies who have been robbing us blind.

Payment on lline
tried to make "free on line payment". Attempted to sign on as a new user, entered account number and then I get an Error page that says I must call to activiate; tried calling customer service and would get cut off after entering the account number. This happened numerous times. This is how they make their extra money..because they charge you $10.00 for each check by phone; I feel someone should look into all the complaints that are filed against this company.

If they can't get you one way, they'll get you the other
AVOID GE MONEY BANK AT ALL COSTS.

I had been subject to the "floating due dates" scam they pull, which you can see in ample evidence in complaints on this site -- they quietly creep the date back till you're getting late fees (of $40, at that). To combat this, I started sending them my payment split into eight checks per month -- two per week. I even made sure the little payments were high enough that if they somehow managed to accidentally-on-purpose only get seven of them into a billing cycle, I'd still be covered. Now I can't possibly get a late fee, right right?

Well, they've invented a new scam to thwart my little scheme of avoiding late fees. I saw one on my last statement, right alongside the eight payments. I called to find out what was going on, even giving them an out by saying "there must be a mistake of some sort". Well, it turns out that if you pay after the due date, but before the next statement is issued, they apply the payment to the earlier month -- even after they've already charged you, or not, for a late fee. In effect, payments made within this window don't count toward *any* month's minimum payment requirement. Unbelievable!

Then, when I took exception to this, I was told, sternly and exasperatedly, "sir, I'm not going to get into this debate with you". What kind of nerve does it take to screw your customers and then fob them off like that?

Repeating:

AVOID GE MONEY BANK AT ALL COSTS.

This company needs to be sued!!!
GE Money Bank (dba Care Credit) needs to be sued via a class action lawsuit for ripping off consumers with fraudulent and unethical business practices. All you have to do is check out this website to see the pattern of behavior is consistent and long-term. How do they get away with this behavior? Why is no one doing anything about it?? Why aren't the State Attorney Generals helping us consumers??? Where is the assistance from the Consumer Protection Agency????

I have excellent credit, I always pay may bills on-time and I have no debt. Here is how GE Money Bank/Care Credit screwed me TWICE...

1) I had dental work done and decided to finance approx. $1000 for 12 months using their 12 Month No Interest option. I paid $75 each month for the first two months, I then went on vacation and when I got back I had two days to pay them so I went to pay my bill online on their website using their direct deduct option from my checking account. I had to enter my routing number and account number, I entered the info correctly directly from my check. I thought I paid the bill with one day to spare but when I got my next statement they stated that I did not pay my bill on time and they charged me the same outrageous late fees that others have written about. When I called them I also had trouble getting to a real human being but I was persistent because I care about my credit history and this was important to me. I asked the person why they did not accept my payment and why am I receiving a fraudulent and outrageous late fee? She seemed like she could care less. She told me that I entered my account information incorrectly and I told her that I certainly did not. I mentioned that I entered the numbers directly from my check and she still insisted that I entered my information incorrectly. When I asked to speak to a manager she made me wait on hold for quite a long time, I guess she wanted me to hang up... but I did not. When I finally spoke with a manager, he was worse than the other customer (non) service rep. He insisted that I entered my account number incorrectly and I insisted that I did not. I even read him the number right off of my check. he was totally useless. RIPOFF #1.

2) This one is even worse than the first ripoff. A couple of months went by OK with me paying my bills online through my bank. My bank guarantees payment by the due date with a one day prior withdrawal timeframe. My June bill was due on June 16th so I scheduled the payment to be withdrawn from my account on the 15th with payment guaranteed to be made by the correct due date of June 16th. I checked online with my bank on the 16th to ensure that my money was withdrawn on the 15th (one day prior to the due date), it was confirmed that the money was withdrawn on the 15th so I assumed that everything was OK (ie the payment would definitely reach them fine on the 16th. Well even though you think you pay on time GE Money Bank will use their unethical business practices to screw you. When I received my next statement they said that I was late and they again charged me their fraudulent and extreme late fees once again. My first reaction was utter disbelief... what the heck are they doing? I confirmed with my bank online and also via a phone call that my money was definitely withdrawn on the 15th and paid to GE Money Bank on the 16th. So I called GE Money Bank once again and after quite a long time getting to someone they told me that they did not receive my money on time. I asked how could that could be since I confirmed with my bank that my money was withdrawn on the 15th and paid to them on the 16th and they insisted they did not receive my money. They could not explain to me how my money was withdrawn on the 15th but somehow mysteriously missed the 16th and was paid on the 17th.
Thus with no assistance from GE Money Bank's Customer (non) Service Department they screwed me with RIPOFF #2.

How in the world can they get away with this fraudulent and unethical behavior?

How do we consumers fight this when this company continues to rip us off?

How much money are they collecting fraudulently from consumers that are actually paying their bills on time?

SOMEONE OUT THERE PLEASE HELP US!
PLEASE!!! THEY CAN'T GET AWAY WITH THIS!

Fraudulent Activity
GE Money Bank carried my "same as cash" balance from a home improvement project. Since I didn't pay the full balance, I incurred significant interest charges but made payments on the account at 15%. I missed ONE payment (traveling) and they boosted my interest rate to 26.99%. I found other financing (at 8 percent) and made arrangements to send them a big check to cover almost the entire balance. Now they've tried to take TWO electronic payments which have been rejected as I don't have that kind of cash lying around.

When I tried to talk to the GE Money Bank customer service people, I got a succession of barely English speaking customer service associates who told me that because the amount was so large, it would "take some time to investigate." What's to investigate? They erroneously tried to take a double payment from my account and should not do it again.

I think this is the worst financial organization I have ever dealt with in 35 years of banking. They are so unorganized and don't know what they're doing.

Rip off on credit card
Started with telephone calls from India at all hours of the day and night even though we were not behind on our payments. Guess the final straw was the call I received this morning from a guy whose English was marginal to say the best. Informing me that our account was going to be turned over to collection because we were late.
Checked the statement and the due date isn't until the 9th and this is the 1st. Something wrong with that picture.
So I started trying to contact the corporate offices. Five hours later, found a number that was good. Just for everyone who might want to call and voice their disapproval of the call center in India and the business practices that GE has adopted over the past few years, I'll give you these numbers so you don't waste 5 hours of your valuable time like I did.
The New York number is: 212-370-8000. But to use this number you need to have an employees name. Try looking up the company directory. I went straight to the top and used the CEO's: Mark Begor. His office number is 1-2073-750-3068. His assistant is a nice lady so be kind.
Next I spoke with Corporate Relations: 1-800-419-5010. The person I spoke with was Cindy Lockyer and she was most helpful.
So once you cut through all of the crap they have put out there for us to cut through there are some decent people working there, who also don't necessarily agree with the corporate practices but don't place to much blame on them, they need their jobs just like the rest of us do.

Paypal
Had Paypal account that included GE Money Bank. Paypal paid 36.00 to MyLife/Reunion.com to renew a non existant subscription to them. Paypal refused to return my money and referred me to MyLife/Reunion.com. In writting, via e-mail, MyLife/Reunion.com agreed to refund my money. When it did not show up in my Paypal account within the 7-10 days they told me would be required I attempted to recontact MyLife/Reunion.com and they had closed their e-mail site! I contacted Paypal to find out what had happened to my money and they would not give me any information on the transaction! I closed my Paypal account, and also the associated e-Bay account. At this point I have no way to access my account number at GE Money Bank (you need the account number to access account) since I cannot log on to Paypal. It is a hell of a way to do business but I have no record of the account number. Now I cannot contact GE Money Bank and pay them what I owe (account balance less 36.00) because I cannot ID my account with them. This is poor way to conduct financial business, GE Money Bank!

Care Credit Account
My issue is that I enrolled in a Medical Codeing Course on-line. After having difficulties continueing the course I called and to have my course changed to Medical Billing. They agreed and informed me that the initial charge would be exchanged for the newly enrolled course. Then in 2008 I began receiving legal notification for collections under a different name attached to my sss#. Note prior to this I had never received any billing statements at all. The collection agency Arrow Financial bought the debt from GE Money Bank, Arrow Financial never contacted me, but instead pursued legal proceedings to extort money from me totalin over $3800 plus legal fees. I tried to prove my case to them and was told my circumstances did not matter, due to, the name matching the sss#.
