GE Money Bank Reviews

Illegal Late Fees
I received my June 2009 Chevron/GEMB statement and noticed a $29 late fee despite the account having been paid in full. Upon my inquiry as to the late charge, Chevron/GEMB informed me that my paid in full check was one day late. I disputed their claim and requested the $29 late fee be removed. Chevron/GEMB refused to remove the late fee despite the fact that my account had been paid in full and that my account history clearly detailed my account had been paid in full each and every month for the past 6 months and beyond. Chevron/GEMB did offer me a 10 cents per gallon reduction on my gas purchase for 30 days, but I refused and requested the $29 late fee to be removed to which they refused.

With the decision by Chevron/GEMB to not remove the I closed my Chevron/GEMB credit card, requested that they remove me from their mailing lists and to not contact me whatsoever. Additionally, I discussed the matter with a large local law firm as I am seeking to resolve this matter in court in a class status. I would encourage everyone who has an account with Chevron/GEMB and or GEMB to close their accounts with this business as they cannot be trusted. The consumer controls 70% of GDP, so lets send them a message and put this irresponsible bank out of business!

STOP SENDING PAPER STAMENTS AFTER SETTING AUTOMATIC PAYMENT
It is tricky how these credit service providers are doing business, Please keep in mind that they are NOT going to help the clients. It is not in their interest...PERIOD!. Here is my case:

First I called GE Money Bank Customer Service to request to have one of the accounts (World Market) that I have more than six months with $0 balance CLOSED and TO BE REMOVE from their records, because that was THE ONLY ONE that will show up in the screen of my computer after I have signed in, strange enough, the one I want to pay and it is still active does not some up...I still find that page showing up as my first and only account with GE Money Bank.

Second, I wanted to avoid late feeds in my other account with CARE CREDIT/GEMB, therefore I sign up for an automatic payment, to be paid the 1st of every month. Well, they STOP sending me the statements in paper to my address and this morning when I talked to the customer service employee she told me they are sending them, that this is my problem, then I asked to speak to the manager and she told me that they stop sending the statement in paper after I signed in for automatic payments!!!.

I have been charge for more than six months 29.99% for late fees because my payment was not paid on time (1 day late) but how was I able to know if I could not see it?

Now I will have to pay $2.553.66 with a 29.99%... This is the industry is making the most profit during this hard economy...and they are doing it in a very wrong way. I hope one dya it will come back to them...In my case I CAN"T WAIT TO BE FREE OF CREDIT CARDS DEBTS!...or nay type of credit...better living simple than a slave.

Account Closure
I opened this account in January of 2007 with my father as a co-signer. I paid a few dollars more than the minimum every month by the due date until August 2008. In August 2008, I began experiencing money shortages. My payments were no longer made by the due date, but the payments were made within 30 days. My father was a cosigner on this account and it was imperative that I stay as current as possible. I let other accounts go deliquent before I let the Care Credit account lapse. In February 2009, I took the family in for their semi-annual cleanings at the dentist. My preferred dentist is not in my dental insurance network and I use the Care Credit account to cover the difference. When I attempted to pay my bill, my account was denied. I contacted Care Credit dba GE Money Bank in order to determine the cause. GE Money Bank closed my account due to deliquencies on my other credit accounts; not remotely related to GE Money Bank.

My financial difficulties continued and I needed to reduce my monthly payments. I knew that the credit companies offered financial hardship programs for deliquent borrowers, but the only way to qualify for the program was to be deliquent. Therefore, I allowed the Care Credit account to go 60 days late. This, of course had an adverse effect on my father's credit. My father had two other lines of credit with GE Money Bank. The company closed his long standing accounts because of the deliquency on the Care Credit account. After being 60 days late, I qualified for the hardship program, but only after creating an adversarial relationship with my father.

The company has told my father that it will remove the adverse information from his credit bureaus and that he can apply for new lines of credit after the adverse information is removed. We, as consumers, know that factually accurate information cannot be removed from our credit reports and that the adverse information will keep him from qualify for any further GE Money Bank products.

I understand that my deliquency affected him, but I also hope that he can understand that GE Money's business practices will continue to adversely affect him regardless of my account status.

Overcharged and lousy service
I had to open an GE Money credit account through PEPBOYS in order to pay for some unexpected car repairs. There was supposed to be 90 days same as cash, at which I only got 30 days. When I called about only receiving 30 days, the GE associate argued with me!

Next, I did not receive my credit card for almost 6 months! I had no way to make payments (no card number, no account number, nothing!). I had to call in all of my payments and change the address to the correct address every month, because GE Money kept changing my account information! I finally had to tell them to leave my account information alone!

When I made my first online payment, I sent up my online account for automatic payments. It took a full month to start my automatic payments. When I checked my account this month, the automatic payments was turned off. So I made a one time payment (to make sure my payment is onetime) and then turned the automatic payments back on, expecting again that it would take another full month to start. Instead, the automatic payment started the next day and now my checking account is overdrawn because two payments were taken out for the month of June instead of one payment! I was also charged $30 in fees due to the over payment from my credit union. When I called GE Money, I was told by the associate that GE Money would refund the over payment (not including the $30 in fees), but it would take 7-10 business days for me to receive a check in the mail! If this happens with my other credit card, they return the over charge to my checking account within 1 day, not mail me a check in 7-10 days! I now have to scraped together cash from somewhere, to fix my checking account while GE Money takes their sweet time giving me my refund!!!

I plan on paying off my GE Money account and closing it! I would not refer my worst enemy to GE Money! Completely lousy service! No one should have to put up with this kind of customer service ever! GE Money Bank needs to get their act together!

Lowered Credit card limit
As a Service Connected Vetran I have had a Lowes credit card since 1998, Built two homes and furnished them, Bought enormouse amounts of tools big items as well and paid cash for it all never using my credit card only for emergency use only.
Never been late on a payment nor have I went over my limit, But GE Money Bank sent me a letter they were closing my account.
All my bills are paid on time, and I find this to be very disturbing.
I JUST WANT ALL VETRANS TO BE AWARE OF THIS MATTER AS FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

Reduced credit limit without reason
GE Money Bank controls the Discover credit cards required for using Sam's Club. After 17 years of using Discover and paying all bills off each month so as not to pay interest, our credit limit was dropped to less than half of what we usually spend on the card each month. We have an excellent credit rating, as seen on our report at freecreditreport.com, which was immediately checked by us. GE Money Bank claims to have sent a letter detailing the reasons, but the letter hasn't ever come in three weeks of waiting. Then they tell us that when (if!) the letter comes we can respond in writing and they'll "try to resolve" the issue in about 60 days. What a totally unacceptable way to treat customers. We have no other credit cards to use, and this is a major problem to suddenly be put back to writing checks everywhere we go.

Guess what? Time to stop shopping at Sam's Club and hope for better treatment from Costco!!!

Claimed they never recieved our final payment, charged us huge interest fee!
We made a purchase a year ago on a GE Money Bank loan. The loan was no interest or payments for 1 year. After that year it will go to the adjusted rate for interest. Well my husband and I sent in our final payment to payoff the loan before the due date. GE Money Bank claims they never recieved it. I found all this out when I recieved a bill in the mail for ALL the acrewed interest over the year of the loan. I immediatly called them and asked what happened. They said, " they never recieved the bill and that we owed the entire amout of interest $1300.00. I told me that I did send the payment, they did not seem to believe me or care at all. I spoke with the supervisor who was very aloof and dissconected from the world. His attitude was " too bad for you". I immediatly made an electronic payment on there web site for the entire amount owed. I also stopped payment on the check that I originally sent it. I mailed all this info with a letter explaining what had happened. I got a letter back stating, "who cares". I am just amazed at a company that would be so unforginving and with no understanding of a certain situation. I will never do business with GE Money bank and I will tell all of my friends and family not to as well.

Harassing Phone Calls
My compaint is harassing phone calls. I made a purchase in August of 2005 and have never missed a payment. Because of finances, my payment is not always on time and has'nt been recieved on time in the last couple of months, GE Money Bank has found it neccessary to swap me with phone calls 7 days a week. I've yet to miss a payment nor due I intend too! I have started keeping a log with the dates and times of the calls. In the last 12 days I have recieved 31 phones calls, three of which have been at work. I didn't think this was allowed. I am not sure what legal actions I can take, but these harassing phone calls have to stop.

"Account Security" charges
I signed up for GE MoneyBank's CareCredit card for my dental procedures (braces). I was recently looking at my statement online and I noticed that they have added "account security fees" which was around $80 EVERY month since December 2005. When I asked the customer representative, she gave me a different number to call. Since today's a holiday, I will be calling them tomorrow... I am waiting for appalling answers.

Additionally, their collection agency calls and promises that they would waive the "pay by phone" fee if I make a payment over the phone with them. But when I look at the statement online, the pay by phone fee has been applied and not waived. When I asked the reps about this, they inform me that I should be aware that every time I make payments over the phone that there will be a charge. But I told them that wasn't my concern. My concern was that I am promised that the fee will be waived when in fact the statement says otherwise. To this, the rep said that the fee was assessed by the collection agency and that they should not have misinformed. I told the rep to file a complaint about this and that I needed a letter stating that this was done. But she said that she cannot provied a letter of a formal complaint. I feel violated!

What A Rip Off Company
Was late 207 days on my credit cards, unemployed and just got out of college. Called just last week to try to straighten something out, get a hard to understand customer service representative and they say my balance was at $1089, started as a $300 credit line but with 29.990%interest after my first late payment plus the monthly late fees it has gotten to $1089 absolutely crazy right. Anyway the customer service representative says if I pay the amount of $200 dollars on that day that I would have my account payed in full and closed and that I would be getting a letter in the mail...Ha I get a bill removing the $200 dollars as a payment and my account got hit with another late fee and finance charge keeping the balance at $905. Im only 21 and this has had to be the worst experince I have ever had it is ruining my credit and I think GE Money Bank is completely worthless, would not recommend it to anyone in anyway. STEAR CLEAR.
hope this helps a few not get screwed... Ill be on the phone in the morning, wish me luck
