GE Money Bank Reviews

RIP OFF
I had a gas card from Chevron for over 40 years. I did not have any problems with them until GE Money Bank took over the client list for them in April 2008. From day one, I have had nothing but problems. I could not access my account online to pay them. I tried numerous times online, numerous phone calls to various people, talked with a few but they all sound like robots and to top all this off, they closed my account. Like I said, never a problem with the previous company Chevron used, but since GE Money bank took over, nothing but continous problems. I am paid them off and thank goodness for that. What a bunch of incompetent, unprofessional jerks. I recently sent a letter to GE Money Bank, Chevron, BBB, Attorney General, etc. I doubt that this will do any good as I had previously sent a letter to Chevron and did not receive an answer back. Guess they don't want people who pay their bills on time.

ethics
RideNow Powersports along with GE Money Bank have ruined my credit. The loan officer took advantage of my son who was just 21, and did not use due care with my credit application. I received a certified letter from a Law Office that represents the legal interests of GE MONEY BANK. At the bottom of the letter it says, THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO COLLECT A DEBT. With the help of Legal Aid the letter was answered. Then 2 months later the same Law Office informed Legal Aid that, I was NOT a joint holder on the account. Also due to limited resources Legal Aid could NOT assist me any longer. BECAUSE I do not have the money pay a lawyer THE BIG COMPANY GETS AWAY WITH IT AGAIN!

Made payment, never withdrew
Upon recieving a letter from my issued credit card company, i was irate! I made a payment on 4/16/09 when the bill was due 4/30/09. It says so on my account statement, but they never withdrew the funds from my account. Now they are charging me $29 late fee, $25 non payment, and $25 returned check fee. There was more funds in the account than the payment listed and placed. Horrible HORRIBLE ethical system. But I bet if this were them, "someone better fix this...ASAP". How about that same consideration to someone who has NEVER been late on a payment, and wishes to have their account reopened??

Terrible bank
My husband and I have several major credit cards, and a few store cards, as most Americans do. With the recession looming over our heads and the economy being what it is today, we decided to be proactive in our debt management and pay off most of our credit cards with our income tax refunds. So in February when we received our Federal tax refunds, we paid off Lowe's (balance of $400), Discount Tires (balance of $700), JC Penny (balance of $300), and SYMS (balance of $300). As of yesterday April 6th, we've received 3 letters from GE Money Bank informing us that they have closed all of these accounts based on "information from our credit reports, not from our credit history with GE Money Bank".

My husband and I were livid!! Oh, so you'll take our good credit rating with you and our money and close our account like we never had a relationship? WTF? We just purchased a home a few months ago, so our debt to income ratio had to be within the guidlines required by our bank. And we've continued to maintain our good credit score. We've never been late on any of the GE accounts (or any other accounts for that matter). It really just felt like a slap in the face to us, the consumer, for them to take our cash and then shut the door on us as customers.

I suppose had we continued to pay the astronomical interest rates on their store cards and send them the minimum monthly payments they would have been cool. But the moment they received our money to pay the accounts in full they were through with us. My husband and I are very positive people, and believe that there's always a good reason for everything. We're taking this as a blessing that we have four less credit cards we'll have to contend with. But my question is: what does this do to our credit rating? When your account is closed by the grantor and not by the account holder, how does that look to the three agencies?

Our goal in 2009 and beyond is to pay for everything with cash, and to only have our mortgage to deal with. Thanks to GE Money Bank we're closer to our goal, but it just doesn't feel right to have them do this to us in this manner. And even though I'm trying to stay positive about this...I'M STILL PISSED!!! :-( How dare they!!

One Dollar Holds
I have a total of twenty eight one dollars hold on a visa gift card i have financed from GE Money Bank. The dollar holds are supposed to fall off within twenty four to forty eight hours, but GE Money Bank who is responsible for releasing the hold have not done so. I have contacted the Manager from the bank as of April 16th 2009 no one has returned my phone call. The Customer Service number on the back of the card is automated no live person for me to speak to for answers.
Unhappy Customer w/ good credit history April 18, 2009
Unfair to customer with good credit history!
I recently received a letter from GE Money Bank saying that they would like to thank me for being a valued Banana Republic visa card customer, but they decided to lower my credit limit to half of the original limit based on their recent review of my credit history. I was totally shocked!! I never had a late payment and always paid on time. And even the GEMB customer services told me that I had a great history with the bank!

I am a young professional (health care industry)making $60, 000 for the last 2 1/2 years. I never had one single bank ever lower my credit limit and the banks would only increase my credit limit every year. To show my credibility, two of my other credit cards have a total of $21, 000 credit limit, not including other cards that I have. What shocked me the most is that I NEVER had one single late payment and this GE bank card has only $2000 limit to begin with. GE Money Bank claimed that they made their decision based on my credit score from Equifax. They can fool other customers but not me! I pay monthly fee to monitor my credits with all three Credit Breaus: TranUnion, Experian, and Equifax to avoid any identity theft. And my credit scores have not changed ever since I got this card. And what proved to me even more that their claim/statement was a lie is that, I recently switched auto insurance and the auto insurance agent told me that I got a discounted rate because I had great credit!! Are they just lower my limit because they are not making enough money out of me because I pay on time and therefore they cannot make interest and late fee out of me? And because I shop so much so GE Bank actually has to give me more reward certificates so they are not making as much money from me?

I called and talked to 3 customer service representatives from GE Bank and trying to find out what the real reason was behind the decision. All 3 of them finally admitted to me that it was a company-wide decision to lower credit on almost all customers and I was not the only one being affected by that.

This is a very disappointing experience to me and in some way it is an insult to me, who is someone who always maintain a good history. GE Money bank, such a big corporation, is very irresponsible in my opinion. Because of the bank that had a loose credit policy giving everyone credit cards trying to rip people off when economy was good, now the bank is being haunted for their poor decision making and having to adjust everyone else's credit line to lower their own risk in this bad economy. As a result, people like me who has a good credit but has no say in this situation only received a letter after fact and my credit score was hurt more or less because of the credit limit got lowered. I was very disappointed with GE Money Bank and wanted to close my Banana Republic account, because I still have many other cards to use anyway. However, credit breau told me that that would actually hurt my credit score. So now I am supposed to keep it open and let GE Money Bank to possibly hurt me even more in the future when they decide in the future to once again lower my limit, and as a result it probably will hurt my credit score once again!

If it wasn't because I love shopping at Banana Republic, I would not have even opened an account with GE Bank. If Banana Republic sees this complaint, please re-evaluate if you would like to continue your partnership relationship with GE Money Bank. One thing I can say is that this definitely affect Banana Republic's imagine and my shopping desire with Banana Republic.

I am frustrated and feel like I am not being treated fairly. But in long run, this is actually a GE's loss. Because of this unpleasant experience, I will never open a GE bank card, or finance anything through GE. Until they fix their corporate policy and know how to treat their customers right, I would never associate with GE bank!

To GE Money Bank, if you sees this, please re-evaluate your corporate operating policy and tighten your credit approval guidelines to avoid bad debts in long run from pepople who shouldn't be entitled to a GE bank card in the first place, instead of coming to the back end to hurt the current customers who have good reputation!

I hope that all of the big American Corporates, not just GE Money Bank, would take this bad economy as a good learning experience and have good internal controls in place from now on and evaluate their operations periodically, and not to wait till financial crisis occur!

Unfair business practices
About a year ago, my son needed dental work and had no insurance. He applied for credit through Care Credit/GEMB, but required a co-signer, which I reluctantly did. My son moved out of state last summer but the Care Credit bills continued to be mailed to me. I notified Care Credit several times, in writing and verbally, of my son's new address but continued to receive bills for several months. When the bills finally stopped, I assumed that they finally corrected the error.

This past January, I received a call from Care Credit stating that my (son's) account was delinquent. I called my son who said he had not been receiving bills either. Subsequent to this time, GE Money Bank has lowered my Lowe's Credit Card limit to the current balance, lowered my credit limit on my Walmart Discover card (for which I rarely carried a balance) and canceled my Grossman's Bargain Outlet card (again, I rarely use).

I checked my Credit Score with Experian since receiving the call in January and my score went from over 750 to 659. I have numerous accounts (home equity, auto, other installments) and ALL are paid on time. In fact, other than this note that my son has, I have not paid any loans late in over 20 years. At this point, I am reluctant to try to secure any additional credit in fear (or embarrassment) that I would be declined.

fraud
Paid account in full and I am still receiving a bill for the full amount plus interest of course. How can they do this? My Visa was charged for the full amount plus $39.00. What a scam. It will never happen again. I will be reporting this to whoever will listen.
