GE Money Bank Reviews

GE Money being sued
I'd really like to know who is suing GE Money bank and if this is a class action. My niece is bombarded with over 20 calls a day beginning from 8:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m. 7 days a week even though they are taking payments from her checking account every month. (I took a loan out for my niece). She had to unplug the phone. The money being taken out of the account every month is not being applied to the loan and the loan is almost twice the amount borrowed. The interest is 25%. It was 8% on the initial loan from Apple (recommended by Keyspan for a new boiler). Calls to the house are being made from countries where English is not the first language and they are not professional to know they are talking to a recording???

Only two statements were received from the money being taken out every month and late fees are still being applied. Customer service is very unprofessional and rude.

What can I and everyone who has had a complaint about this company do?

Ignoring letters and calling 10+ times daily
For five months I paid my payment to GE money bank on time. I even paid over the amount. Shortly after my surgery on my eyes (april 06) my son was diagnosed with a lifelong disease. Despite the fact of having insurance , his expenses exceeded thousands of dollars a month. I live paycheck to paycheck. I own nothing. One of his medicines cost $444.99 / month. By August I was struggling to keep the electricity on. I wrote three letters to GE and none were answered. They now call me up to ten times every day. They refuse to respond to my letters and continue to harass me!

Bware!!!

Changes due date in order to charge late fee!
I needed some dental work back in November 2006. My dentist recommended that I get a Care Credit: GE Money Bank card. I was in such pain, I said do it. Every month they have changed my due date so that they can charge me $29.00 in late fees!!! So if my bill is due the 19th, I pay the $30.00 min. they ask for on the 14th and then when I look again at online statement, they have already changed it to due date of 13th!!! So then I get charged $29.00!!! Also, I have a MO stub for one month when I tried paying through mail. It was purchased and sent on the 5th and they say they did not get it until the 24th (conveniently, one day AFTER bill was due!!). I called and was told that, "It is not up to us how quickly mail gets here"!!! BEWARE!!!

Ge money bank late fees and over the limit fees is a rip off!
I also had a dental loan with care credit , which goes through ge money bank... What started out as a $500 loan, has now escalated to $850 and is still growing... i am at a loss as to what to do here. I have spoken every month to people at ge bank and they are of no help, nobody knows what they are doing, no supervision... I could send my payment on the first of the month, and it is due on the 12th, and i would still have a late fee somehow... I will never deal with them again, i don't know how i am going to pay this now, and each bill i get now has a $30 over the limit fee and another late fee... It is such a mess... What can i do? Any advice from anyone... I can not pay this loan if they do not take off these late fees... So discouraged with this all, ready to just file bankruptcy, I'm to avoid more late fees and over the limit fees... Please if anyone reads this do not deal with ge money bank.

Terrible service and money robbing
GE Money Bank is the most unprofessional bank I have ever done my business with. I purchased a Four wheeler and the finacing was done through them. It was a disaster from the start. I bought the four wheeler a year ago and they are now finally sending me my first account statement.I had called several times(5-6) in the course of 6 months and they kept giving me excuses why I wasn't getting my bill. So since I wasn't getting a bill in the mail I would have to call and make a payment over the phone, which cost 10 extra dollars. I was told by the customer representative that was "helping" me that I couldn't pay the extra 10 dollars right then, that it would have to be added onto the loan.(so they could get interest on it) So basically they wouldn't send me a bill so that they could get extra money from me. The representatives were very rude and unhelpful. It was always very obvious to me that I was bothering them with my problems. Among this there were many more incidents. I will NEVER do business with this company again!!! They are liars, cheaters, and unprofessionals! Everyone I come in contact with will hear this story and I will guarantee will not choses to use this company also!

Being sued for outrageous fees!
A lot of the same stuff that I see from other people on here has happened to us. It is very good to see that we are not alone, here. They lost a payment right when the zero interest promotion was about to expire. They lost two transfers. They called our house several times a day for months. They have a nasty attorney suing us for the wrong amount that has $1200 in fees on a $1500 original loan. We reported them to the Office of Thrift Supervision, the BBB in several states, the Attorney General of Arkansas, and the Federal Trade Commission. There is some guy in Connecticut who wrote us a letter chock full o lies, named Steve Bailey, that was GE's response to OTS. They stopped sending us statements on purpose and blamed it on the post office. Here's an interesting aside: how did the letter in reference to OTS get to us, if the problem is with the post office? How could it be that seven months of statements could get lost and his sack-o-lies letter gets through? Here's one for the record: they charged a $29 returned check fee for a payment they claim they never got in the first place. We couldn't find anyone who spoke English, either. We have a montage of addresses that includes nine offices in seven different states, where they have shuffled us about. We have proof of all of our allegations against them, and our bank and the automatic clearing house that makes payments for our bank, back us up. The clearinghouse and bank were ripped off, because they made payments to these people several times and the payments were never credited, but they sure did get stolen from the clearinghouse. Our bank was kind enough to take the loss and the blame, not knowing at the time that the company, GE Money Bank is as crooked as the day is long. GE's attorney knows full well that the amount is in dispute but is suing us anyway. We are counter suing, but I really think that we may lose, because of the name GE Money Bank. They are big and we are small. They have laurels and all we have is debt. It seems that they get away with this sort of thing over and over again all over the country and that they are like a giant disease that can't be stopped. If I had known what kind of company it was, I would never have bought the furniture that I bought.

Charged fees after closing account
GE has been found guilty of so many counts of criminal and fraudulent behavior since 1977 it is amazing that they are still in business. Radioactive testing on humans, fines for pollution, and for illegal credit collection practices totaling hundreds of millions are just a few (http://www.cleanupge.org/gemisdeeds.html).

I have had my fair share of horrible experiences with them. My wife and I purchased two TVs on a zero percent interest plan (or so we thought). GE Money would only approve two separate loans to cover the purchase amount one for me, and one for my wife (hmm). We thought this was odd, but we decided to do it anyway. We received a statement from them in our second month of the loan informing us that we had not made full payments on each loan (note: we had not made any payment). On both loans they charged us a late fee, removed the zero percent plan, and increased the interest rates. We thought that we had no payments for 12 months. We called GE Money they said that we were supposed to make minimum monthly payments, but that is not why they removed the plan after the first month. In a very rude and disrespectful tone, the GE Money person said that our credit limit did not cover the full amount of the purchase on each of the two loans. Each loan had a very small amount due something like $300 combined against a $5000 purchase. Sure enough there was about $150 due showing on each statement. To maintain the zero percent program we were supposed to pay the $300 or so dollars the first month. The store where we purchased the TVs did not disclose this. They were shocked when we brought it up. GE Money was not upfront when we entered into the zero percent loan agreement. They could have required that we paid these amounts as a down payment when we purchased the TVs, but they didn’t. These amounts owed were not disclosed at the time of purchase, and they are simply odd. I wonder how many millions of people GE Money has pulled this stunt with. The retail store that sold us the TVs was willing to write a letter on our behalf, but we decided to pay off and close both accounts, but I will never forget the experience.

Round two; my wife needed some emergency dental care. She opened an account with the dentist and did not notice that it was GE Money thinking it was some company named Care Credit. The amount was $500 (with a much higher credit limit for more work needed). We had some confusion on payments owed again. The short story is that after 2 months they charged us $59 in fees, terminated our low interest plan, and charged $30 in finance charges. Here is the interesting part. I called them at 2.5 months into the loan and asked for the total amount owed (the pay-off). I paid it and closed the account, which they verified. I get another a statement the next month informing me that they received the payoff amount (thank you), but that they want an additional $30 finance charge, and $10 check fee, which they neglected to collect at time of payoff. I don’t understand how they have a right to continue to ask for additional, retroactive, interest after they provide a payoff and acknowledge closure of the account. Is this legal? It should not matter that its $500 (plus about $100 in fees and interest in 2.5 months) what matters is the horrible behavior of these people. The fact is that if I don’t just pay it they will charge late fees up the wazzoo. Why do Americans continue to put up with this ongoing abuse? We are to blame if we don’t do something about it.

Late fee charge - scam!
Due date 1/13/07 - called to make payment by phone was advised needed checking acct. nmbr. and there would be a 15.00 chg. or could pay online to avoid fee. Went to computer to pay online where payment would not be late, did not take check book with me, they do not accept credit cards. Had paid online before - auto input for routing nmbr. but did not auto input acct nmbr. Went online on my bank and sent payment in that way, printing receipt - Received bill on 27th, charged a late fee of 29.00 - called and spoke with Mike #1187 and he advised me since they did not have payment in by 5pm on the 13th a late fee applied. I advised him I had receipt that it was paid before 5pm on 13th - he said since it was not on their website it did not count that I should have pd the 15fee it would have been cheaper - or pd sooner and it would not have been late, I thanked him for his advice on how to manage my busy schedule but payment was sent on time.

This company is ripping people off!
I had Dental work done with in a two week period. The bill $10k each time was submitted separately. This month we received a bill from GE indicating they had charged my account a 3k finance chg for a promotional fee that had to have been paid by 01/17. The new bill totally NEW format came in Jan. and it was the first time ever that these charges were highlighted. I called and asked if I could pay the whole amount off today, because in feb 02/07 They're hitting me with another $5k. I spoke with a supervisor Brock. He was extremely rude. I indicated I plan on writing to the President of the company, since as far as I am concerned there are very misleading on the promotional fee charges. If we hadn't caught this we would have been paying a 26% interest fee. Back dated 18 months. The way the program was described to me was that there was no interest until after 18 mo. WHAT A RIP OFF.

Finance charges before due date
I also had one payment left on my $3000.00 loan for an elliptical Runner. My promotional period was set to expire on 2/15/07. Today in the mail I received a new bill with the full interest over the life of the loan now due in Full. A full month ahead of the specified period. I just got off the phone having spoken to 3 different outsourced call centers and various levels of "management" who all said that even though I'm trying to pay my Balance (minus the suddenly due interest) that they can't ..and won't waive the charges. I work at a bank and we have the ability to waive ANY fee's we charge as a financial institution. I know GE Money has the same capabilities.
