Care Credit Customer Complaint

I had to open a Care Credit account a few years ago when my teenage son needed to have dental work done. The first time that I paid the card off, I didn’t encounter any problems with the company. The second time that I used the card however; I had a totally different experience.

My payments were due at the end of the month and being a teacher in California, my pay date is on the first of each month. After several months of having to pay this bill at an inconvenient time, I decided to make an extra payment through the mail in order to get ahead a payment, to match my pay date. Making a double payment at the end of the month should get me on schedule for the next month, or so I thought. The next month, I was charged a late fee. When I called to ask why, I was told that I had been charged a late fee because I missed a payment. I explained that I had made two separate payments in the previous month, so that one could be applied to the current month. I was told that I had made the too early and that was why I was charged a late fee. I thought that this was a small misunderstanding that could be resolved. I was told that because the payment was received before the new statement was generated, they were both applied to the same month, and that the late fee would stand. After a few months of arguing with rude supervisors, I was convinced by a customer service representative to sign up for automatic payments.

Previously, my payments were $25 monthly, with automatic payments, the required minimum payment way $50 monthly, that’s double! I thought that I should go on and sign up for the auto payments to save myself the hassle of having to deal with these people and this problem. The first auto payment came out of my bank account, and was applied to my Care Credit account without a problem. A few months later, I noticed that my balance was getting larger instead of smaller, how could this be if I’m now paying double? When I called to find out what was going on, I was told that the automatic payments were set up for the 5th of each month, while the due date was the 3rd of the month. At the end of the day on the 3rd, I was being charged a late fee, and on the 5th they applied my $50 payments to the account. Again I thought that this was a small misunderstanding that could be resolved. As I started to question the agent as to how this could happen, I mysteriously got disconnected. I made a few more calls, in an attempt to rectify the situation, but to no avail, long hold times and more mysterious disconnections continued to occur. I was asked why I set up my automatic payments after the due date, I told them that the representative gave me that date, how could this happen? I told them that the first auto payment was fine, how could this happen? I was told by one of the reps that my due date had been changed, and now falls before my payment is due. I asked why my due date was changed; they had no explanation as to why. After 3 months of calling, automatic payments had been taken out for 6 months total, my balance was higher than ever, I still thought that this problem could be resolved, I was so, so wrong.

In July, the 7th, month I called again and was told that I owed around $100 for that month, how? I’m still making automatic payments through this whole nightmare! I was told that no payment had been received that month because automatic payments are only in effect for 6 months, I now owe them even more money!?!? I have automatic payments on other accounts; I have never heard of that. I was told by representatives as well as supervisors that there is nothing that they are willing to do as far as reversing some of these fraudulent charges and fees. As of now I have no idea what to do about this situation, I am asking whoever is reading this complaint to put yourself in my shoes. I have tried to keep this account in good standing; however, this company is making it next to impossible. Please, any advice is appreciated. Thank You –Michelle Smith I can be reached at: [email protected] Thanks again

Bait and Switch Credit Card
Through a program through Cartier - I purchased an engagement ring for my fiance. I put 25% down (was willing to write a check for the full amount). The Salesperson told me of a RED program that allowed for no interest or payments for one year for the balance. I assumed the credit card company GE Money Bank did this program to source high net individuals and agreed. I received a couple statements, which based on what I signed up for, I assumed were account statements saying I owed zero balance and expected to pay the entire "loan" off within 12 months. About a month and a half ago, I received another type of envelope from the GE Money Store and again ignored it. Today, I find yet another note from the GE Money Store and it says my account is DELIQUENT??? What????? Turns out, the GE Money Bank store had me sign up (through Cartier) for a completely different program. This program is 0 interest BUT requires a 3.5 % payment of the balance monthly. So, I pay the amount due IN FULL. Call the GE Money Center to complain about the "switch" by THEIR representatives or affliates and ask for reimbursement of the penalty fees. Done. I am happy...the last thing I ask is "was their a bad credit report filed" because this is not my fault...this is a completely different product than what I was "sold" by Cartier...(Cartier agrees by the way and have CANCELLED the Red program with GE Money Bank). The answer, predictably is Yes..they filed a negative report...and sent me to a Manager who heard the above from start to finish. To make a long story short...he agreed I sold on a program incorrectly, agreed that I paid any and all due once I knew of the problem, agreed that I had a right to be frustrated but REFUSED to take back the Bad Credit notice. This is as blatant consumer abuse I have ever seen in my life. Its predatory and simply wrong. He told me to talk to Cartier (who again fired GE Money Bank) about it...but agreed it was GE Money Bank that filed the bad credit report and only they could remove it.
Cartier is working with their New York office and will work with me to get GE Money Bank to do the right thing..but how a "customer" can be blamed for simply bad behavior and misrepresentation of a product (bait and switch) - who paid in full the day he found out (I could have insisted I didn't owe them anything until the end of the 12 month period)...is just sad and pathetic. I will be writing my Congressmen/women, US Senators, and the FDIC with regards to the above...I am so upset about being taken advantage of...do the right thing...and end up getting blamed for a situation created completely by supposedly two credible institutions.
GE and GE MONEY BANK should be ashamed of themselves...I am selling all of my stock tomorrow and tell this story everywhere I go.

HH Gregg Card
I opened a 0% interest GE Money credit card through HH Gregg to purchase a washer and dryer. I paid the balance off before the time limit and when I went to check my balance online I still saw a charge on it. When I called GE Money, they informed me that I would have to pay the interest inccrued while having the card and then I would be sent a refund. I have used serveral business' o% interest credit cards and have never had to pay the interest when the balance was paid in full before the time limit. After serveral calls to GE Money I finally recieved a check for the paid interest (almost $500). Now the check from GE Money won't clear. I wish I could charge them interest for making me wait so long to get my money back. This is bad business dealings at it's best. As soon as I get my money situation straightened out, I am canceling my GE Money card and never opening another one again. As for HH Gregg, they guareenteed the account would not be handled by persons outside of the U.S. They lied, every time I've called, with the exception of one time it has always been someone from India.

Bunch of thieves
SO I had a GE care credit card for a while now. not only did they tell me it was a year at no interest, but they FORGOT to tell me it would all be deferred!! so in one month from may 8 to June 9, they charged my 3, 600.00 in interest. I asked them, no I begged them to work with me and "forgive" some of that interest and those egotistical a--holes said sorry we can't do anything for you. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE...DON'T DO IT. 27%interest, get the heck out of here. IF you have this card, pay it off ASAP because they will hit you HARD for the interest. I will NEVER EVER buy from GE again. we need all new appliances, LG here we come, I will never have anything good to say about GE, GE Care credit, GE appliance...they can all go to ...YA, I AM PISSED OFF CUSTOMER!!!

Its no wonder our banks are in trouble with people like this running things
I have a walmart credit card with a $300 limit. We have had some financial problems and it has gotten with late fees and finance charges up to $511.54. I just closed a retirement fund and decided to call GE. Money Bank today to talk about doing a payoff. I was offering to pay $400.00 today to get this paid off. I was told by Mr.Daniel Mcneel the supervisor that he would take no less than the $511.54. That we were in their payment plan for $20.00 a month. I stated that at $20.00 a month that it would take 2.5yrs. to pay off. When I WOULD BE GLAD TO PAY $400 TODAY. HE {Mr.Daniel Mcneel} refused and hung up on me.I hope GE MONEY BANK, WALMART AND ALL Big companies see what type of practices their supervisors are doing. I thought we were suppose to get our debits paid off.Not stay in debit. I believe I will contact the Attorney General and The White House. Its no wonder our banks are in trouble with people like this running things.

I do not understand why I am being charged these fees, and I don't know what to do
Care Credit is not advertised as a Credit Card. We were told we could make payments with no finance charges. The monthly statement even shows no end date, just "promotional-until paid off". Every payment has been made early, and I am still being charged late fees and finance charges. After the first fee/charge, I wrote a letter to GE Money Bank, and received a nice response. The fees/charges were credited back on my next statement, but then it was charged back again, and is being charged again every month. I have repeatedly called and written GE Money, and talked to the doctor's office where we got the account. Care Credit reps are rude and have hung on me. Most of them don't even speak clear, understandable English. I am continuing to make the requested payments (early) to document that I have followed their instructions and terms. I do not understand why I am being charged these fees, and I don't know what to do. My husband and I are both retired, on limited budgets.

Late fees are killing me and my credit report
I was late on one payment, finally got caught up but minimum monthly payment almost doubled. I called GE and the agent who answered said my payment would go back to it's original amount next month. Next Statement payment amount is still high. Now I'm over limit, which is costing me overlimit fees and late fees. I'm going to have to throw in the towel on this one. It's killing my credit score. Not sure what to do. Calling them does little good. Guess I'll just stop paying, which I hate doing. I've never seen the likes of a company like GE Money. It's not like I was using their care credit for unnecessary purchases... I used it for dental work, which was needed.
