Geek Squad Reviews

Customer Service? NONE
In November 2007, I purchased a front loading LG washer and dryer. Because of the electronics, I also purchased an extended warranty from Best Buy. About six months after purchasing, the dryer stopped drying. I called the Geek Squad, waited a week for them to come out, and then waiting another week for the parts to be delivered. In January 2010 I started getting an error message on the washer. The manual said, "Unplug the machine immediately and call for service." I did. I waited another week for the service appointment. I was told, "I found a loose wire. It's fixed." Three weeks later, the same error message. Again, I waited a week for the appointment. And of course, the error message wouldn't come on when the repairman was there. "Nothing wrong."

Around March 1, my washer stopped completely. The same error message. I suspect the error was a common one and they knew what needed to be done, but... Again, the Geek Squad couldn't come out for a week. I told the Geek Squad service coordinator that this was an on-going problem and couldn't they please just bring the parts when they came. But, no, of course not. The guy shows up without parts. "I'll have to order the parts." and "I'll call you." No call. Finally, almost a week later I get a phone call saying that a service person would be at my house between 8 a.m. and 8 a.m. "Great, " I thought, "I won't have to miss much work." A little after 8, I get a call from a person who told me the appointment was from 10 to noon and he couldn't help it. So, I plan to be at home. At 12:30 I call the Geek Squad and find out that my appointment had been canceled because the parts hadn't come in. Hmmm, I wonder why I got those confirmation calls when no one had bothered checking to see if the parts were in.

I asked for a supervisor. "I've now missed a full day at work and I haven't had a working washer for two weeks." They were sorry, but they couldn't schedule another appointment for another 10 days if I wanted Saturday service or 8 days if I wanted to take more time off work. I demanded that someone come this Saturday. in 4 days. "I'm sorry, but the repairmen only work every other Saturday."

As I see it, the Geek Squad owes me. I've taken a total of two days off work waiting for them and will likely take another half day. The words "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" seem hollow, don't they? I'd rather hear, "We blew it. What can we do to make this OK for you?" A gift certificate? Another year of free warranty?

Unimpressed with the Geeks.
I took my computer in to the Geek Squad to have some data retrieved for a project I was doing for work.
I had an all together terrible experience.
First, the employees cared more about selling me different products/servies than the one that i'd initally come in for.
Second, once I made it clear that I was there for one thinig and one thing only it took forever to find an employee who actually knew what they were doing.
And last, on top of all the bad service they charged me an arm and a leg.
Are you kidding me?!

I trusted this company to be better than what they were.
They're backed by a big corporation so I guess that makes them think they dont actally have to please their customers.
I was unimpressed and unhappy with my Geek Squad experience.

After I got home I was looking up reviews (which I apparently should have done in the first place) and this company called Secure Remote Support came up.
I tried them out a month or so later and they provided me with service that was truly quality.
Their technicians were educated and efficient. Not to mention a whole lot affordable.

Do your research before taking your computer to just anyone!

Computer Repair
I took my (fairly) new Toshiba Laptop to the Geek Squad to have a virus removed, with all the confidence in the world that this well known company could solve my problems.
From all I've heard of this company it made all the sense in the world to go there.
I took it in on a Tuesday and over a WEEK later I still hadnt had my machine back.
I had to call the store to see when I could get my fixed computer, they tossed around the phone from person to person as though they were playing hot potato and I finally spoke with a "member of management" (who had to be no older than 18) who informed me that my computer should be ready within "a couple days".

This was ridiculous.
Finally nearly 2 weeks later I got my computer back (after paying nearly 300 dollars).
THE VIRUS WAS STILL ON THE COMPUTER!
Are you kidding!!!?

A coworker of mine told me about a site he'd used called www.SecureRemoteSupport.com
He said they were a smaller company but very efficient and friendly.
These guys answered my call on the third ring, spoke to me so I understood what they were saying and provided me with unbeatable service.
My computer was fixed within two hours and I havent had any problems since.
If any problems arise I know who I'll turn to.

rip off
I took my laptop in because I was getting a warning that said backup because hard drive 4 was going out. So I first went into the bios to see if I could get it to boot from another drive that I had partitioned. Then I decided that I should just take it to Geek squad since I did not have the time to dedicate to trying to recover the information. I have a backup drive, but I took it anyway because I had not backed it up for two days and needed the other information. I was told that they could recover the data because he had tested the hard drive and it was still working. I paid 200.00 including the price of another external hard drive because I did not want them messing with my original external drive. Well now they are telling me that the information cannot be recovered and that they will have to send it out and that it is very expensive. I told them that they needed to refund my money because they did not do what they said they were going to do. I will be complainint to the BBB because, if they can keep peoples money they can aways said that they can fix something not fix it and then keep your money. What a way to make money.

Incompetent workers
I came across this thread while looking for someplace to rant about my terrible experience with Geek Squad . This guy was trying to get us to pay him $100 for basically coming to the house and saying there was nothing wrong with our oven, even though there was CLEARLY something wrong with it. Well, we got the Sears guy to come a couple days later, who discovered that rodents were responsible for eating through much of the electronic parts in the back. Had we just listened to the Geek Squad idiot, we could have eventually had a tragic fire. Luckily, after calling this guy's supervisor, we ended up only paying the "technician" $5 just for coming out cause we're nice people like that. Moral of the story: If you're thinking about hiring someone from Geek Squad, just order a pizza and have the delivery guy try to figure it out. I promise you he'll have the same level of expertise!

Laptop repair
I brought my laptap in for repair because it wouldn't connect with the WiFi network at work. I described the problem in detail. At their suggestion, I authorized a software scan, for which they charged me $70, to check for viruses. On their service order they wrote: "Client opted for DIAG to find the cause of the problem client is aware of $130 for repair if software related." After the scan, they said they found one virus, so I authorized the $130 to fix the problem, for a total of $200 paid. But when I brought the computer back to work, it STILL didn't work. Not one thing had changed. So I asked for a return of my $130. They refused and told me to call "corporate" Best Buy. I did, which took forever (three different agents, after long waits for each). Got cut off and had to start all over again. Finally got through and got the runaround. I told them I shouldn't have to pay the $130 because they didn't fix my computer. I could have bought a functioning used laptap for the $200 I paid to them for absolutely nothing! I said I was happy to eat the original $70, but thought paying another $130 for work which did NOT fix the problem was unfair. We got cut off, so I called yet again. This time I was told that only the store manager could authorize a refund. Yet the Geek Squad guy in the store had told me I had to call corporate! What a runaround!!! Total incompetence and fraud.

installed windows incorrectly
I bring my computer in for virus removal. Called to see if its fixed told that it was, got there and was then told that I needed new hard drive even though I'd never had any problems other than too many pop ups. When I declined new harddrive, i was then told that my computer was never worked on because it didnt pass some sort of harddrive test, and unless I purchased one they would not attempt to remove virus. My option was to do as they say or loose the money I'd paid to have it diagnoised. I trusted them so I went along with it. Then I was told that I had to pay more for the back up service because I exceeded their limit. I trusted them, and paid.
Im up from 99 dollars to 317 now. But thats not even the worst part. When I got computer home I could no longer install software like Word. Went back, told that they had improperly re installed windows. Manager took no responsibility at all. When I asked for store manager, he lied and said he wasnt there. I was told that my computer was basically junk anyway and asked to leave when a resolution could not be found. Now instead of pop ups, I have a computer that is virtually useless. Geek Squad is the biggest rip off in the world. And the staff knows NOTHING special about computers. Oh, if youre expecting good customer service after the sale, forget it.

Very Rude & unhelpful
They forgot to return my power cord. They were unhelpful, etc., about getting me a replacement quickly. I'm leaving out some details, but later, after I called to see when I would get the cord after hearing nothing, I was finally told they would give me a universal one if I cam in. When I came in and told the manager I was going to write a bad review online, he said twice : If you are going to threaten me then I'm not giving you a cord now, you'll have to wait till it gets back from the warehouse. Wow, very, very nasty, rude, and unapologetic. I had even worse problems recently with the Best Buy appliance department.

Got my money and time
Arranged to be off work today to have TV maintained as specified in my service contract. Had to be home for 4-hour window. Geek Squad blew me off. Subsequent call to Geek Squad produced no semblence of customer service in correcting their error.

I paid good money for my maintenance plan. The Geek Squad couldn't even show me the decency of calling me to say they weren't going to show up. Their only answer was that I could wait another week and commit to another 4-hour time slot.

They got my money...this time. Don't let them get yours.
